Singer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died at the age of 78, her spokesperson has said.

Born in Hampstead in December 1946, she was known for hits like As Tears Go By, which reached the UK top 10 in 1964, and for starring roles in films including 1968's The Girl On A Motorcycle.

She was also famously the girlfriend of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger in the 1960s, inspiring songs such as Wild Horses and You Can't Always Get What You Want. After a period of heroin addiction in the 70s, she resurrected her career with the classic album Broken English.

Sad to hear about Marianne Faithfull. She made a lot of good music over her lengthy career. Her cover of 'Working Class Hero' is my favorite version of that song and the album it's on is one of my all-time favorite albums. I got to see her perform live in a club in Boston many years ago. She put on a fantastic show.

RIP Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack, the beloved, Grammy-winning 1970s R&B singer best known for such hits as "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly" died on Monday (Feb. 24) at 88. At press time a statement from Flack's spokesperson revealed that she died peacefully, with no official cause of death available.

Gene Hackman: One of Hollywood's greatest 'tough guys'

The US actor, his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, and their dog were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Santa Fe County Sheriff's office in New Mexico confirmed they were found "deceased Wednesday", but that officers "do not believe that foul play was a factor".

Looks like some sort of suicide pact, alright. You'd wonder though: at 95, why bother? Was he sick? It doesn't say. And she was in her sixties so plenty of life left to leave. Not to mention the poor aul mutt, who surely got no say in it.

RIP anyway. But I wonder if we'll find out the true story?
