Tried to find an original French Connection juicy funk chase scene track but they've gone! Instead, some classic Quincy vibrations.

"An underrated muso" but don't quote me on it..

Boris Spassky, Chess Champion Who Lost 'Match of the Century,' Dies at 88

If anyone is unfamiliar with the story of US chess player Bobby Fischer beating Russian chess master Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championsip, it's a very interesting story. There's a few interesting docs/movies about it too. It became a proxy spectacle of the Cold War.

Seems it wasn't Carbon Monoxide poisoning, anyway...

Gene Hackman was likely dead for 9 days before he and his wife were found, sheriff says

Data from actor Gene Hackman's pacemaker shows he was likely dead for nine days before he and his wife were found dead at their New Mexico home, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said.

The pacemaker shows Hackman's "last event" was recorded on February 17, Mendoza said at a Friday news conference. "According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption, that that was his last day of life," the sheriff said.

Both Hackman and his wife tested negative for carbon monoxide, according to Mendoza.

Yeah last report I heard cops are investigating their deaths as suspicious.

I was this cool the whole time.

David Johansen

Never paid much attention to him outside of the New York Dolls but the their debut album is an all-time favorite LP of mine.

R.I.P.

David Jo is a top tenner for me.  Everything from the Dolls to solo to Buster to the ghost of future past.

Countless hours of listening since I was a teenager and three outstanding concerts courtesy of David Johansen and company. Lighter held high, LUV

I saw the New York Dolls when I was in Austin for the SXSW festival back in 2005. It was David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain. Arthur Kane had been playing with them but passed away suddenly several months prior. An enjoyable show even with just two of the original members present.

That was the only time I saw either of them perform live.

RIP Angie Stone

QuoteThe music world and saddened fans are mourning the sudden loss of Angie Stone. The Grammy-nominated R&B singer died Saturday morning in a car crash in Montgomery, Ala. She was 63.

Stone's sultry voice resonated with multiple generations. She first entered the music scene professionally in the late 1970s as a member of the hip-hop trio The Sequence. The group was one of the first all-female groups to release a rap single, with "Funk You Up" in 1979. Stone is also remembered for her vocals as part of the R&B group Vertical Hold in the early 1990s.

Joey Molland, last surviving member of Badfinger
Departed March 1, 2025 (age 77 years)

Back in 2019, I saw Joey Molland, Todd Rundgren, Mickey Dolenz, Christopher Cross and Jason Scheff (Chicago) on stage together performing The Beatles White Album.  Each artist performed a couple of their own songs as well.
