It is definitely pronounced like egg in Spain. I'm speaking to someone now and they've confirmed it. Mexican Spanish, fuck knows could be different. I know there are differences with Rioplatense pronunciation and Spanish pronunciation.

I can definitely imagine a person from the UK pronouncing it that way. I don't recall hearing anyone in Spain pronouncing Es like that though.

I think he's saying he's heard it said like "Peh-dro" instead of "Pay-dro". I think that's how native spanish speakers pronounce the name.

Yup. I learned this because my husband has family of Spanish origin and they speak it with Spanish pronunciation. He learned to speak it from his mom, and while he can definitely communicate with Spanish speakers here the difference in his pronunciation is apparently very obvious to everyone.
