When I was signing up the letter picture was mostly unreadable, had to try many times, and the audio alternative wasn't (still isn't) working. Many could be trying to sign up but abandon when they encounter too much difficulty.

I agree. There are always forces trying to make more forums and of course it's so easy.. much easier than consolidating / removing ones you don't need.

But there are definitely some we could consider getting rid of. The forum games & events forum, maybe. Possibly combining Feedback and Announcements into an Administration forum..

It is a bit different because this forum is not dedicated to a particular topic. Most forums are centered around a band, hobby, lifestyle, or event.

My suggestion is to pick a focus and make one subforum for that which is separated from a general chat subforum...no further division is necessary.

Absolutely disagree. I don't want to be posting football threads in a non-general forum. We need a lot of the sub forums we have. You can't just make a "general" one and then lump everything else into an "other" sub forum. That's both lazy and confusing. Guybrush and I (mostly him, I made tea and cleared away cables) set this forum out the way we thought it would be best appreciated by its members, and so far, you're the only one to complain. We've been active for over a year now, so I think that speaks for itself.

I'd hardly call this place active. When you divide a forum up so much it becomes cumbersome to click through and participation goes down.

There's nothing wrong with a football thread standing adjacent to a film thread on the same page.

Yes there is.
And I didn't say the forum was necessarily active - though after a year we have a good amount of members, most of whom are posting regularly. What I said was that nobody else has complained about the amount of sub-forums, so I don't see any need to change it. If it ain't broke, break it. Or something.

The amount of sub forums is fine. This forum branched off of a forum that was dedicated to music but also had off topic forums to discuss other forms of media. There were sub forums for different genres.

There's a reason the forum is so named. As Weekender says, most forums do tend to concentrate on one main subject, be that music, sport, film or the evolution of the Ethiopian aardvark, but our one doesn't. Primarily it's music, yes, but people discuss politics and movies just as much as that, and anyone is welcome. You don't have to be a music fan or a film buff, or indeed a politico to be welcome here. We have something for everyone, and that's why it's Something Completely Different.

What you're suggesting has been proposed and discussed before. We eventually landed on a model of various forums that each have a caretaker, called a curator. Rummaging around the different forums is a little tedious, but I think most if not all of us circumvent this by checking the Unread/Updated Topics links top left.

The forum seems fine to me. Maybe a few minor tweaks.
