Where does the admin team want the forum to go? Are we looking to recruit new members? How could we do that?

Hey, we're always open to ideas. Someone who has good social media presence (I believe you can get the internet on computers now) would be best placed to try to spread the word. Failing that, I think Tore has authorised specialised "snatch squads" to rob members from other forums. Just make sure you have enough chloroform: nothing worse than when they wake up too early and start screaming in the back of the van!

Yes, of course we do!

It's very good of you to make a thread, actually, as I've been meaning to ask the community about this, but.. it's just all those movie and music discussions and other going-ons get in the way.

My appeal to the community would be thus: Do you know of anyone who would be a good member here? An example could be ex-MBers as a lot of people left over the years, possibly some due to the gradual change in the MB environment. I'm thinking people like Right-Track, Jackhammer, Mr. Dave, Bulldog, etc. I've been in contact with those I could find in my lists / records. If you know someone (ex-MBer or otherwise), I'd be grateful if you could spread the word.

Other than that, I don't know. We did consider making a google ad, but that shit's pretty expensive. It think it was like 50 bucks a month minimum?

We may have better luck spreading the word on social media or other forums, but for myself, I've quit basically all social media and have replaced just about all that sort of stuff with this one forum.

I actually got a friend of mine to join the forum but she has yet to post. I keep trying though. :laughing:

It probably isn't a good idea to advertise on other forums as they tend to be protective of their turf. I'm speaking of my experience at the writing forum mostly and I think we've got as many members from MB as we can.

Maybe there are fan sites such as RYM or some movie site that might allow an ad that promotes this site. Otherwise, I guess mouth to mouth would be our best approach. All of us have virtual friends outside of here or MB so maybe we could give that a shot.

Thanks guys. I know a few who'd probably sign up, but don't want to mix my personal life with the copious amounts of crap I post on forums.

It does, but you have to be very specific. It's doubtful anyone would find us through Google searches.

just keep up the threads like jans' vinyl and trolls prog and synth's top electronic and tristan's

it's threads with content about artists that people google that will attract people

it takes time but content will eventually lead to views that will lead to members and you know

that's what i think anyway

it can take a long time though or even never happen -

i'm certainly not interested in mb 2.0 or a more civil mb

i haven't posted over there for over two years - i don't even know why i kept the name i use

Yeah I wouldn't panic. I wonder how long it took MB to attract more than 100 members? We've only been going for what, two months is it? Barely out of the womb never mind out of nappies. We got a long way to go. But I think we've built up a decent core membership. Apart from me of course. It will take time, but we have the makings of a decent forum and I think we're headed in the right direction. Well now I DISTINCTLY heard the command "Set the controls for the heart of the sun": don't blame me, I'm just followin' orders...

there's a difference between 2003 and 2023 though.  MB was started in the era when message boards were popular.  That's no longer true.

Also, a lot of the time I can't even get Google to direct me to an MB thread even if I include user names and shit like that.  You have to basically Google the fuckin thread title for the shit to pop up. So that thing that OH said about people googling some artist and ending up on a message board as a result might not even be true anymore.
