Quote from: SGR on Sep 22, 2023, 04:23 PMDua should 'dua' straight up house record. It would be awesome if her label pulled in different DJs/producers to do each track.

CamelPhat, Eli & Fur, Tchami, Don Diablo, KREAM, Oliver Heldens, it'd be a banger, and her voice works great with house tunes.

What about Fred? Though he may have worked with her before tbh.

Fred is becoming the Coldplay of dance music in terms of reputation. Seeing a lot of tweets about how he's shit and dance music for people who don't like dance. Mostly from the early 20s crowd. Think it's bollocks myself and I was listening to dance twenty odd years ago. No way is he shit.

Only God knows.

The "Coldplay of dance music"?  These people probably just parrot talking points from Pitchfork writers and Anthony Fantano. Fred is great and his style is definitely unique among other contemporary DJs. That being said, I'm not sure if his style is a natural fit for Dua - it would be interesting to hear how a collaboration like that would turn out.

I was thinking Tchami might be able to push her in a different and compelling direction. I know he's done production work for Lady Gaga before, so he's not new to this. If he brought back his old school style with Dua singing, he could put out some heat. But I definitely want some Dua vocal chops.

And I'm a KREAM stan, but I do think they'd be a really natural fit for Dua - I don't think either KREAM or Dua would need to change up their styles much to mesh well.

Oh another option - John Summit. He's literally at the top of his game right now. Imagine him producing tracks like this for Dua. Hell yeah.

Hi, I don't think I'm too familiar with anyone but that's a hell of an introduction post.

Had an account over on MB but always found it hard to navigate, even more so on mobile. Anyways, television and music are my main focus these days. I love pop culture, but also love researching underground scenes. Hopefully someday there's an underground television scene akin to film or music. Anyways, glad to be here.

What are member journals though? Like diary posts?

Welcome to SCD!

Journals are like your own little blog, they can be general places for your thoughts or more specifically themed. I use mine as a listening log for music.

And I also love underground scenes! I'm fascinated by subcultures and their development and histories. What kind of music and television are you into?

Oh I see, that makes sense.

Music wise, I'll listen to anything once. Whether it's the latest American pop star or a Tibetan throat singer from the early 1900s. My favorite all encompassing genre is Rhythm & Blues for sure, with a subtle preference as far as subgenres go for Funk and Soul music. I find it easy to have appreciation for both the mainstream and underground scenes of any genre though.

Television wise, I'll be the first to admit I lean more snobby in regards to what I actively pursue. Meaning a lot of my favorite series are probably from FX or HBO, labeled "prestige" with more complete storytelling and character writing. For comedy series I'm more lenient, Abbott Elementary is pretty good, but I hate Friends. Some of my favorite series are: The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Friday Night Lights. As far as "currently" airing, I thought the last seasons of Righteous Gemstones & The Bear were brilliant. Twisted Metal is a sleeper hit for the year so far for me too.

Yours?

Nice! I'm not really an expert in R&B, but I do like funk a lot, what I know anyway. And I love Prince. It's good that you're so open minded! I have my preferences (mostly alternative rock, prog rock and various forms of electronic music) but I generally have respect for most every genre as art forms, so I get you for sure.

For TV, I don't really watch much of it on my own time anymore, especially not serial stuff since I mostly have TV on in the background so I don't always focus the best on it. But I do love Mad Men and some of my other favorites in my bigger TV watching days would be Seinfeld, Community, Scrubs, The Office, Fresh Prince, I Love Lucy, mostly comedy stuff.

I think you and my fiance @Mr. Waffles will get along for sure, he's always watching "prestige" kind of gritty serial drama stuff.

Welcome! Man, I love Righteous Gemstones. I got the wifey hooked on it and we binged through the first and second season so quickly and then we watched the 3rd season as it was still being released.  Twisted Metal was awesome, idk why it got slammed so much from critics and even some supposed fans.

I'm currently keeping up with Ahsoka and the new American Horror Story. There are a few reality tv shows I'm looking forward to. I don't really care about the bachelor but seeing an old man do it seems interesting so I'm all in for the Golden one. I haven't watched Dancing with the Stars in ages but Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is going to be on it this season so I'm watching mainly for her. There is some reality competition show called House of Villians with like "bad guys" from other reality shows mixed into one house to compete for money. I'm going to have some good trashy tv show fun coming up soon.

I was this cool the whole time.

Hey Zikanes! So cool that you came over from MB 🙂

Just looking over your intro, I think we probably got a lot in common. Very happy to have you here, so warm welcomes!

Prince is def my favorite musician, glad you're a fan. If you ever want some R&B recs I'm around!

I'm currently watching Seinfeld for the first time, I like it I'm on S3 so far. Fresh Prince is a classic, as is I Love Lucy. Haven't seen Community or Scrubs much.

Danny McBride should join the long line of television comedy legends. He's really carrying that torch beautifully. I really liked Twisted Metal, hope S2 keeps momentum. Sometimes people get away from TV being entertainment. I don't want it to feel like homework. I've only seen the first 2 seasons of Buffy, I really need to finish eventually cause I liked what I watched (well more S2 than S1).

I'd love some R&B recommendations, also Buffy is well worth taking some time out and binging. I need to re-watch since I haven't seen it in awhile. I'm also going to start reading season 8 which is in graphic novel form.

Danny McBride knocks it out of the park all the time. I loved Eastbound and Down. The quote I had on MB in my signature was from that show. I also like his contributions to the Halloween franchise.

I was this cool the whole time.

Thank you and good evening. I haven't been on a forum in quite a while and I hope this works out.I'm 54, live in Australia, and have a wife and a dog. Favourite colour is blue and my mother's maiden name was Spain (seriously). PM for bank details.
Was anyone ever on the (very) old Iron Maiden IMBB board, or its offshoot, MFU? No, didn't think so, but that's the last forum I was part of, about 5 years ago I guess. How interesting.

The only forum I've regularly used since 2008, besides this one, is Musicbanter which is now neglected and increasingly being taken over by spambots.

If you're big into Iron Maiden, you may have a fellow fan in our resident bard, @Trollheart 🙂
