Splash (1984)

I saw this in the theater when it was new, and maybe one more time as a young adult, but it's been a long time. I was surprised that it holds up as well as it does. Aside from John Candy's character's pervy-ness, this movie, including the VFX, has aged incredibly well.

Throw your dog the invisible bone.

One of Karen's favourite movies. A very young Tom Hanks, and basically a modern version of The Little Mermaid. Without all the cute songs.

Cry Vengeance (1954)

:3stars:

Crime thriller about a former cop who is released from prison after serving time for a bribery charge which he was framed on. He is obsessed with seeking revenge against the man he believes is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child in a bomb blast which was meant for him shortly before he was set up and sent to prison.

After seeing Flow,, it left me in the mood for another good animated movie. I watched The Wild Robot. Anyone here seen that one? I quite liked it. Deifnitely tugged on your heart strings. Best thing Dreamworks has done in a long while imo.

Haven't seen it but it looks good. Isn't he friends with a bird or something in it?

Yeah, she stumbles on a bird egg and through circumstance, ends up becoming a mother to the bird (who is a runt).

I saw Wild Robot a few weeks ago and loved it.

Throw your dog the invisible bone.

Its been on my to watch list. I wanted to see it while it was in theaters.

Same thing with Piece by Piece but I ended up watching it a few weeks ago.

It's interesting to see Pharrell's autobiography in Lego pieces. It's a great nostalgia trip hearing all the songs he produced and was part of.

I was this cool the whole time.

Saw All of us Strangers yesterday.

It was a very good movie. Powerful drama with phenomenal acting by Andrew Scott in particular.

Only thing is I thought it was crushingly sad at the end 😱 I won't spoil, but a big theme is loneliness and the barriers that keep us from loving other people and from being loved. It's the sort of movie where you wish you could reach through the TV screen to give the characters a hug. I was crying at the end and that sense of sadness didn't shake off immediately either. It haunts me still.

More powerful than entertaining, of course, but a good watch if/when you're in the mood for something a little more slow, but impactful.

A man of taste. I knew there was a reason we were buds

Is there something in Liam Neeson's contract that says every movie he is in has to have his family threatened so that he can use his classic line?  ::) It's becoming boring. Case in point:

The Commuter (2018)

In which he is approached by a mysterious woman who offers him money to find someone on a train and tag their bag. When he realises how this is turning out (oh! Shock! She's not just running some survey!) his (say it with me) family are threatened, so he has to go into Action Man mode. Yawn. A movie that basically gives LN a chance to look his usual cold-eyed hard man, kick a lot of ass and look somewhat confused at the end, as was I. Meh.

Its unfortunate because he genuinely seems like a great actor but unfortunately he's been plagued as a one trick pony and anything he does outside of "i have a certain set of skills" comes off as a bit odd. On the contrary tho, he has had a lot of great films that don't fall into that category but they're few and far between.
