You'll have to watch it to find out their fate.

Quote from: Guybrush on Jan 24, 2023, 04:50 PMHow do you decide on which god awful 50s horror you're gonna watch?

I watch most of them on YouTube, while I'm working out in my home gym. Whatever pops up as a suggested movie, that I haven't already seen, and fits into a 75 to 90 minute running time (the time of my usual workout routine) will usually do.

This is a great idea. I've been doing something similar, but with Seinfeld episodes :)

Here's another low-budget flick I recently watched...

Lost Continent (1951)

This one is about a group of three scientists and three members of the U.S. Air Force, flying on an expedition to recover a lost atomic rocket. During their search, they crash-land in dense jungle on an island in the South Pacific. Despite flying directly into treetops and trees on the way down, the plane lands largely undamaged and all but one of the crew members walk out unscathed in the crash. One of the scientists receives a slight gash on his leg which is quickly bandaged before they all set out in search of the missing rocket. They soon encounter a native woman who happens to speak perfect English and tells them that a bird of fire flew into a volcanic mountain on the island and frightened the rest of the villagers away. She shows them to the base of the mountain and then runs off in fear, leaving them to press on without her. They spend about 1/3 of the movie making a boring and uneventful climb up the steep mountain before the scientist with the leg wound slips at the edge of a cliff and plunges to his death. They eventually reach the top of the mountain and discover a vast, tropical jungle filled with prehistoric plants and dinosaurs. At this point in the film, the picture changes from B&W to a rather ugly light-greenish tint which I found unnecessary & somewhat annoying. After making their way through some dangerous encounters with various dinosaurs, they find the missing rocket partially buried nose down in the ground and completely intact without so much as a scratch at the spot where it crashed on the mountaintop. The two remaining scientists climb into the rocket to retrieve some data and shortly thereafter one of the Air Force members gets gored to death by a triceratops. With their mission accomplished, the remaining four head back down the mountain and the picture changes back from the ugly light-greenish tint to B&W just before the volcano suddenly erupts and all hell breaks loose.

I think I may have actually seen that one!

It didn't help that Cesar Romero was in a starring role in the movie. Ever since I saw him as The Joker in the 60's Batman TV show, I haven't been able to sit through anything else I've ever seen him in without immediately thinking of him as The Joker.

Is he the guy who refused to shave his mustache for the role and so they just put the white makeup on top of it?

That would be the one. He was quite cooperative otherwise though and he enjoyed the role.

terrific score

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

It was charming but not brilliant.

I agree with this.

I saw The Menu which was a neat little thriller and entertaining from start to finish. It's a little ridiculous, something that could've made it a mess in someone else's hands, but Ralph Fiennes does enough good acting to put the rest of the cast to shame and makes it work.

I don't wanna spoil any more, but watch it yourself if you want some violent fun.

I just saw the Room. Horrible. One of the cast members got some of the others togather and they have a mockumentary "Where Are They Now" going. It's hilarious.

Tommy Wiseau's movie from the 2000s? Because that's pure gold
