Our vision and goals

To help steer decision making in the right direction, we have a vision and some goals for SCD. Goals are divided into main goals - general ambitions for the site - and minor goals - things we need to do to achieve main goals.

Our vision for the future:

Something Completely Different is a tight-knit, friendly, popular and thriving community where people can discuss whatever it is that interests them.

In order to achieve this, we have the following main goals:

• SCD should have an environment that promotes friendship and trust between members
• SCD should be a community that's fun to engage with and that rewards participation
• SCD should be thriving and should attract new members
• SCD forums should be responsive, reliable and make for a good user experience

Each goal has minor goals attached:

SCD should have an environment that promotes friendship and trust between members

• We should have simple, reasonable rules that help facilitate a friendly environment while not feeling oppressive
• We should have fair moderators who themselves adhere to the rules they enforce
• We should have an environment tolerant of various beliefs, cultures, lifestyles and sexual orientations
• We should have a secret forum so that members can share personal details on our forums without sharing it with the whole world

SCD should be a community that's fun to engage with and that rewards participation

• We should have events / going-ons like writers competitions, book or movie clubs, members music compilations and more
• We should have some sort of rewards for participation like awards or special badges or membergroups
• We should provide a chat option in addition to the forums

SCD should be thriving and should attract new members

• We should have a simple URL that's easy to promote and remember
• We should promote the forum in places where we might attract new members
• We should consider getting some google ads when things are up and running

SCD forums should be responsive, reliable and make for a good user experience

• We should have forums where members are not bothered by spam or advertisement
• We should have a fast enough webhost so that members don't get the feeling the site is not responsive
• We should have a test site where we can test updates and plugins before implementing on main site
• We should have a visual theme that is appealing and pleasing to the eye
• We should have dark theme and support for members to choose another look for our site
• We should work towards implementing reasonable new features requested by the community
• We should update the site regularly to make sure it's running the most optimal code with the latest security features

These goals will be subjected to regular reviews and may change over time.
