In amongst all the slogans, tweets and soundbites from politicians and media, to me there's always one thing lacking: charts and diagrams that explain things clearly. Even with sit-down interviews and Town Hall meetings, no Presidential candidate comes prepared with any charts. Why don't the candidates do what any teacher does: have material ready so that you can support what you say about the topics that you expect will arise? It's not so hard to have a collection of charts off-stage that you could pull out to illustrate a point, that could lead to a fact-based discussion. Instead politicians quote statistics out of context, usually without a source or a quick way to verify them - which rather robs them of any value at all: they are just an instantly-forgotten, barely-believed detail in a political argument. A good recent example is tariffs: Good says Trump, not good say the Dems. But who is right?

Granted this clip is from MSNBC, which is considered a biased outlet, but for me, this guy's 5-min explanation of how tariffs work has more useful content than hours of blah from politicians:-

 I'm not inclined to listen to Steve Miller for long, but that clip was worth it. Well done, José Maria Del Pino for calling out SM's ridiculous claim, and for scratching the surface of a Trump advisor* to reveal what is just below the surface.

* "Despite Trump's public attempts to distance himself from Project 2025, reports continue to highlight their intertwined relationship. Miller, who recently assisted Trump with his debate preparation and served as a surrogate in the spin room following the CNN presidential debate earlier this month, was also featured in Project 2025's educational "presidential administration academy" video." I watched that one yesterday. Theo has an open invitation for Kamala and Tim to join him on his show. I doubt very much that Kamala would ever take him up on his offer but I could see Tim going on the show.
