My sleep for the part week has been terrible. I can't sleep for longer than an hour or so.

Put it on repeat and brew yourself some chamomile tea.

Don't know if you listen to music at night, but I always found it helps me fall asleep, as I try to stay awake to hear the next song and in doing so end up falling asleep.

You might also be experiencing stress due to your recent loss. Have you tried herbal remedies like Kalms, or Rescue Remedy? They used to help Karen. Also, if you're into it, maybe install a dreamcatcher in your bedroom? No, not the creepy guy out of Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang!

Could do. I am stressed at the moment but I don't think it's because of that. I am upset a lot but I've got other things causing a lot of stress too.

I'll give your advice a go. I've been listening to podcasts a lot recently but I think it might be too stimulating when you're trying to switch off.

I'll try the Trolls method.

Cheers Big T.

Poor you, insomnia is horrible. Definitely sounds like being stressed/upset might have something to do with it :( It certainly does for me, my last long stretch of insomnia was when I felt depressed, I've never found a way to really do anything about it myself though, but I know relaxing rituals before sleep work for some people (some nice herbal tea, a bath, etc.) and obviously fresh air and exercise but you do that anyway. My mom used to play whale song or ocean sounds for me to help me sleep when I was little, that's less stimulating than music or podcasts. Oh and melatonin is another thing you can try

Thank you.

Melatonin is prescription only here and my GP won't prescribe me anything. Even when I said my mom just died I can't sleep, they wouldn't give me anything.

I'm doing as much as I can to fix this.

I'll try some music and shit tonight.

Only God knows.

Ah fucking British GPs and their refusal to just give people their medicine, that's ridiculous even by their standards. Melatonin is quite harmless too. Why on earth does it exist of not for a case like this.

That's quite strange. Doctors here are reluctant to prescribe sleeping pills, sure, but if you demonstrate your need for them they will. Karen could never get to sleep without her pills, and later her one a night was increased to two, but before it was, I remember her trying to cadge an extra one off me for the afternoon (when she would try to sleep too) and me telling her she only had a finite amount, and if I gave her one in the afternoon she'd soon run out of the night time ones. I used to have to go cap in hand to the doctor looking for her tablets early, but that didn't work as they just ran out sooner. Luckily, my pharmacist was very helpful and used to give us a week's supply early, but I'd then have to go to the doctor and get a new prescription. Then they really tightened up the rules, and he couldn't risk it any more. Soon after her dosage was increased and she never really had a problem after that.

One thing I do know, JJ, is that the human body cannot stay awake indefinitely, so, as I used to say to her, when she would fear she would never sleep again after having been awake for several nights, eventually your body just takes over, gives in and your eyes put up the CLOSED sign, and off you go. But the herbal sleeping tablets do seem to work. Another thing that worked her her, initially anyway, was brandy in warm milk. Seemed to help her. If you have a telly in your room, trying to stay awake watching it also worked for me. I think the more you try to stay awake, the easier it is to fall asleep. Don't know if that makes any sense.

Hey, if all else fails, try reading my journals! That'll send you to sleep!

Thats so strange because I feel like there are so many Melatonin over the counter products available. I guess it's different in your neck of the woods but in the states we can just hop down to the nearest pharmacy and buy some sleep pills or the liquid like Zzzquil.

I was this cool the whole time.
