Watkins is literally our only striker so yes we do need more. Rogers, Malen, Rashford and Asensio can play as support but it's not ideal.

The arsenal women got kicked out of the League Cup by man City. Mostly due to absolutely baffling lineup choices that didn't work (as soon as the lineup was announced I went oh boy), very frustrating game. Oh well. I guess back when it was called the continental (aka cunty) cup it was arsenal's, being an appropriately cunty team, but now that's it's called the subway cup who cares. Stupid overrated sandwiches. (Of course this is totally not a case of the lady doth protest too much). At least this saves me a trip to bloody Derby and Viv Miedema can have the title as far as I'm concerned <3

Villa played Spurs off the park! They were lucky to even score, and that was right at the death. Both Rashford and Asensio looked good when they came on. We march on.

I think qualifying for the Champions League via our league position is gone for this season. We're 5 points off 5th and 6 points off 4th, with 13 games to go you'd say it's not over but we cannot get any consistency going this season. I think it's done. I can't see us going on the winning run required to finish top 5.

We're going to have to win the CL this season and qualify that way.

We've got the manager to do it so who knows.

What's your view on this? I find the italicised (emphasis added by me) a bit much to be honest. Fine him, sure. Make an example. Don't ignore it. Don't put up with it or trivialise it. But prison? Surely that's going too far?


News Alert: Spain's former soccer head found guilty of kissing player Jenni Hermoso without consent


Spain's High Court said on Thursday it had found former soccer federation boss Luis Rubiales guilty of kissing player Jenni Hermoso without her consent and set a fine of over 10,000 euros ($10,434), but acquitted him of coercion.

Prosecutors had sought a prison sentence for Rubiales in a case that sparked a debate in Spain about sexism in women's football and wider Spanish society.

It's too far yes which is probably why they decided not to go for that. Might be the coercion aspect that warranted it. Dunno. It being such a public case would be partly why.

I think anyone who deliberately uses the word describing someone's race sort of makes it automatically a racial insult, unless both are the same colour. I could see a black man or woman calling another a "stupid black man/woman" or even nigga, while I can't honestly see two white people using the word between themselves, unless it would be as a reference to their refusal to see something one said as racist, like maybe "Oh you're just a stupid white male" etc. Change the colour of one of those participants in the conversation either way and it takes on a whole new meaning and direction.

Used in the way she used the insult, yes, it's definitely racist. I don't think you can allow for someone being black using a white insult anymore than you would were it reversed, but obviously the slant is seen as more serious in the latter case. I'm not so sure, had she said "stupid white woman" (had it been a WPC) it would have been taken so seriously, as this is kind of a joint racial and gender slur. Suppose at least she didn't say honky! You can't really have one rule for one side and one for the other, and it was clearly meant as an insult based on his race. Had she said "stupid fascist" or something, probably not as bad, since a lot of people see police as tools of the state and they would more or less be used to some people branding them as such.

In the end, regardless of racial, gender or religious slurs, you can't go insulting people - especially the police - just because you're rich and/or famous. I don't know the full story (article seems to be a lead-on from the original?) but I was always taught, if you get in trouble with the police be calm and polite and take what's coming. Lose your rag and you only land yourself in hotter water.

You also have to look at this through the lens of the "marginalised white male" narrative that is making the rounds now. Right or wrong (it's wrong of course) this is how the prevailing wind is blowing, and certain sectors of society are going to pounce on this as being another example of the poor white man being downtrodden by the immigrant (whether she's a natural born citizen of England or not), so it's pretty stupid to play into their hands. People who are in the public eye have, in my opinion, a duty to keep a rein on anything they say or do which might be controversial. That's just how it is; it's the price they pay for their fame. They live under the microscope, and any slip-up will be seized upon. Also, it's just common courtesy not to be making a knob of yourself.

Tealdeer: Probably blown a little out of proportion but still not acceptable, and they are right, that had it been the reverse there wouldn't even be any question of it being a racial insult.

Finally, I do love this joke from years ago. Scrawled outside the Institute of Proper English Usage: "All policemen are illegitimate children!"

Well she got found not guilty and the online nation is split. Plenty are saying what you're saying, plenty are saying it's not racist and giving all sorts of reasons as to why it's not.

The new thing I've seen now is to call people "stupid and black" or "stupid and brown" in response to this verdict. So well done to all involved as its stoked the flames a little bit more.
