Going mostly by memory here, I can relate to some of what you write. I too think it's a pleasant album with good songs. I think it suffers from a couple of things. Unlike the albums before and after, the songs aren't as good overall and it lacks a clear identity. You mention the personell changes, so it's not much of a surprise.

Nothing at all sounds like a west coast jam with an obvious Canterbury twist. I remember Pye citing Steely Dan as an influence on Plump Girls, so maybe that was in effect here as well?

The Love in Your Eye is an interesting indication of where Pye will take Caravan and perhaps do better later on.

Still there's nothing very wrong with it. I'll give it a spin again soon :)
