I'd guess most people don't want to fire a gun or rifle at an actual human being.

Dude they'd have half the state of Idaho paying to do it. They could very easily make money auctioning off the right to be an executioner.

I think this tops the list for most cynical comments so far of 2023 😄 I hope it's not that bad. Is it?

As a side note; I enjoy violent, shocking fiction, but maybe part of what allows that is it's so clearly in the realm of fantasy for me.

many prison workers would do it just for the overtime or for free to break up the monotony of their day and the monotony of their lives

i guess people really don't know what's going on - the prison guards hang out on the edges and make jokes about the inmates being raped - i'm not in anyway bring hyperbolic or exaggerating- it's like that

It's a bit misleading though isn't it? He certainly deserved to die, if anyone does, but calling him a cannibal seems inaccurate. He "abandoned his plans to eat her" so perhaps "potential cannibal" would be a better description of him? Well, "dead potential cannibal" would be better. Yeah, can't see any way this guy can garner any sympathy. Fuck him. World's better off without him.

Yes. Certain people caught red handed with violent and cannibalistic fantasies who are ticking bombs is a no-brainer.

I heard an interview with Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three and the only one of them to receive a death sentence. He was innocent and released from prison around 2010 I think it was.

He did say that he is certain there's a small portion of people on death row who are innocent. In addition to himself, he mentioned a guy he was doing time with who was taking the fall for his brother as an example.

What do you think about Biden's actions? Commuting the death sentences of virtually all prisoners on Death Row? I'm not for or even against the death penalty, but surely such a blanket almost amnesty is a bad move? Can/will Trump override that decision when he takes the seat in January? Should he? It smacks to me of a combination of old-fashioned bleeding-heart liberal sensibilities and a way of thumbing his nose at Trump. Personally, I could have agreed with one or two commutations, but 23? Seems overkill to me.

China executes man for car rampage that killed dozens

China has executed a man found guilty of killing at least 35 people in a car attack in November, in what is thought to be the deadliest attack in the country for a decade.

Fan Weiqiu, 62, injured dozens more when he drove his car into people exercising outside a stadium in the southern city of Zhuhai.

State media said a second man was executed for a separate attack that came days later. Xu Jiajin, 21, killed eight people in a stabbing spree at his university in the eastern city of Wuxi.

Authorities said Fan was driven by "dissatisfaction" over how his property had been divided following his divorce, while Xu carried out his attack after "failing to obtain his diploma due to poor exam results".

Sentenced and dispatched two months after the atrocity.
