OK, I admit that cover albums are instantly likable but are disposable after a few listens. Still, this album is worth mentioning and even recommending for a listen or two.

Thick and fuzzy sound with hammering beats. It's like passing through somebody else's hangover as they lay on the ground clutching their head.

Faves are Cracked Actor, Baby's On Fire and Communication Breakdown. The whole thing though is like slow backflips in a lava lamp. Well Done!

A couple pretty good bands have new releases today (2/13/26). As with most new releases, several of the songs have been floating around for months. It takes a little shine off sitting down with a new release but it's the world we live in. I present to you a couple 'heads up' mini reviews.

Band: The Paranoid Style
Title: Known Associates
Release: February 13, 2026

The Paranoid Style are from Washington D.C. and are making their 6th release since their debut in 2016. I'm not an expert on the band since I only 'discovered' them a few years ago. I can tell you they have a knack for melody and I can tell you what other people say. Wiki says they are led by the husband/wife team of Elizabeth Nelson and Timothy Bracy. The entry also mentions that Robert Christgau has given positive reviews. RYM has no biography on the band and simply says, 'Indie Rock, Power Pop'. The Spotify bio mentions T. Rex and Elvis Costello has influences.

Hmmm...I'll keep this short. I can't imagine a fan of Nick Lowe not liking this music. Toe tappers galore delivered by Elizabeth Nelson in a talky-singy voice. The overall vibe is light but the subject matter is as deep as you want it to be upon repeated listens. Well Done!

Band: The Nude Party
Title: Look Who's Back
Release: February 13, 2026

The Nude Party hail from Boone (North Carolina) and RYM says, "Garage Rock, Roots Rock, Indie Rock, Cosmic Country, Garage Psych". Yup, that about sums it up for me! For me, it's music that starts with Gram Parson and flirts with artists from Neil Young to Social Distortion. I'm first drawn to the rockier songs but it's the slower ones that stick in your brain. Well Done!

Wow, can't wait for this album to drop because Michael Monroe just released yet another kick ass song. For those that don't know, Michael was vocalist of '80's punk/metal band Hanoi Rocks that was the best tribute ever to the New York Dolls.

Sometimes the name of an album means nothing and sometimes it means everything. In the case of a release called 'After The Dolls'...it means everything.

There are no surviving members from the infamous New York Dolls so what do you do if you need a Dolls fix? I'll tell you what you do...listen to 'After The Dolls' by Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders!

Their six song EP is pure pumping energy through the heart of the New York Dolls. Sure, lots of bands have channeled the sound but this is much more. Nothing on you tube but it's on streaming services.

My favorite is "Dead or Alive" but perhaps most interesting to me is the cover of "Melody" which is borrowed from David Johansen's solo career.

A bouncy and glammy track that goes down pretty smooth. The keys remind me of Palisades Park and the rest is that melodic stuff I just love.

Two fun album releases today; one from a fifty plus year veteran and one from somebody comparatively new.

Suzi Quatro was every teenage boy's dream in the early '70's. How low does that zipper go? At the grocery store magazine aisle I was double checking over my shoulder. I thought it was scandalous just looking at music magazines with pictures of Suzi. Somebody might call my Mom.

She's aged well, Suzi rocks as evidenced on this new video!

The other album is by Brad Marino, "Agent Of Chaos". Most the album falls in the meaty section between Ramones and Badfinger. Equal parts punk and power pop and erroring on the side of punk when in doubt.

Social Distortion just released a new one, "Born To Kill". It's an absolutely killer album with all the things there are to love about Social D. My only wish is that the closest tour stop wasn't three hours away on a Thursday. Well Done!
