That's some fun stuff.

Back in the day, my gold standard for trippy late night music was Tangerine Dream.
No need to listen to the whole album, just skip around a bit and you'll get the idea.

love tangerine dream :)

their soundtrack for Risky Business is like, why tf did they pick them for that movie??  way too serious of a soundtrack for how goofy the plot is.  Nonetheless incredible as anything else they put out

Tangerine Dream's Zeit is their gold standard for me. Their best work imo. That album has me painting scenes and pictures in my head while I listen to it. This track in particular is my favorite:

It's that ominous sense of foreboding doom that does it for me - and that repeated 'fog horn' sound effect usually results in the track bringing my mind to the doomed maiden voyage of the Titanic, sinking on a moonless night.

Tangerine Dream are definitely a hugely important band for me and were a big part of introducing me to electronic music beyond dance and rock genres. While I enjoy most of their 70s and 80s work, imo they were at their peak from 1974 to 1977, everything from that period is analog electronic perfection, plus some of the members' solo projects from that period are nice additions to that.

Rubycon is my favorite of their releases, I think it strikes a great balance between ambient beauty and engaging sequencer passages.

What if we just replaced oxygen with swag?

Christopher Franke's solo work for the TV series Babylon 5 is some of the most effective spacey music I've heard this side of Hawkwind.
