It's kind of the same with power metal - heard one band, heard them all. But there's something more, I don't know - fun? about PM. SM just seems too up itself, takes itself too seriously, almost like goths versus punks or something. I always imagine (though I've never seen one) a Nightwish or Within Temptation gig being very heavy on dark colours, smoke, pale makeup and gothic imagery, whereas I envisage power metal more as backdrops of fantasy scenes, battles and a more light-hearted view. I'm sure of course there are power metal bands who take themselves very seriously, but not as seriously I think as your Epicas et al. Often, when WT or Epica or NW come up on my playlists I just roll my eyes and reach for the skip button.

Ever heads of Wind Rose? I think you'd really dig em. They don't take themselves too seriously and they sound amazing.

Their Trollslayer album they released in 2024 is a regular spin for me.

King Zebra - Under Destruction

King Zebra - Wall of Confusion

King Zebra - On The Run

New Kids On The Block - Bring Back The Time

Myrath - My Inner War

This band may be my favorite new discovery of 2025

Messa - Thicker Blood

Yeah, decent stuff. I get vibes of pirate/viking metal mixed with maybe power and folk, and obvious themes of fantasy/LOTR/GOT. What's their deal? Are they supposed to be dwarves? Yer man is the biggest dwarf I ever saw, if so. You ever heard Alestorm?

SATCHVAI - The Sea of Emotion pt 1

Disarmonia Mundi - Outcast
