Quote from: SGR on May 10, 2025, 07:36 PMMusk can't become president anyways, he was born in South Africa. Even if he could become president, he'd need the help of one of his neuralink brain chips to provide him with a personality transplant to make him electable.

You have to be born in the USA to be president? Citizenship isn't enough?

Wish that was in place here when Boris Johnson (the cunt) was here.

Essentially yes - you might be able to get around the requirement if both your parents were US citizens and you were born abroad, but that's not the case for Elon.

You can like who you want. You're a grown man. I just think that to "like" and joke about the man who is helping dismantle the federal government and who has pushed and is pushing so much hate across the world says a lot about who you are. You're free to do that of course, just don't expect that there won't be pushback.

I don't see how you can be pro-Musk and not be pro-Trump.

It doesn't make sense.

Musk has a soccer team + subs of kids, most of them by IVF. Someone recently turned him down at $1M upfront plus $100K a month.

As you probably know, I'm with TH and Lexi: that Trump and Musk between them are inflicting misery on countless American citizens. People can vote for that if they want, they can admire that if they want, but imo certain kinds of "joke/not a joke" comments are inconsiderate at best and at worst encourage an acceptance of political posturing that many people find offensive:-

It's not yet a done deal that this is the new norm, which is why I go for disapproving of it, rather than laughing it off.

What you desire is of lesser value than what you have found.

Yeah like, if you're seriously pro-Elon, you do you I guess. If you've genuinely changed your mind on him because of what TH and I have posted, that's great, but the way you phrased it feels like you're saying you're deciding to not like him going forward because you think we're telling you to not like him; I'm not, all I'm doing is posting facts and examples of his actions and rhetoric for you to make of what you will. We should all be deciding which policymakers we do and don't support based on our understanding of their policies and actions, informed by our personal sensibilities and values.

I don't need apologies, I just hope whatever your opinion is, you're honest about it.

What if we just replaced oxygen with swag?

I mean, liking Musk is not the worst thing you can do, tbh. Dude is wicked smart but he's just gone down a path that isn't in line with what people expected out of him prior to politics. The other thing to, is that if you are all really against Musk like you say you are, I don't wanna see any of you talking pro electric vehicles / Tesla, because guess who was one of the main people behind that.

And to basically say "I've lost all respect for you" based on who someone likes is not much better. We have to get out of that line of thinking when conversing with people otherwise we'll keep finding ourselves in situations where nobody can even have a conversation.

And yes, im saying this fully knowing I've been one to speak loudly towards others beliefs, but even I am trying to step back and realize that people will have opposing opinions. It doesn't always mean they should be shunned or shut out.

I like Musk as well, but I hate his politics. Say what you want about that.

lol Mindy is MAGA then. Mindy you can say it you know.

Elon Musk sticks his nose into British politics and hasn't got a clue what he's on about. He was tweeting shit about Tommy Robinson being wrongfully imprisoned for exposing nonces. It was not true. He was just going along with the crowd.

Plus he's fucked Twitter up and just keeps making it worse.

Annoying face too.

I don't deny that he's smart. I don't deny that he's made positive contributions to the world. I also believe he uses his intelligence to advance anti-human rights causes and uses his platform to promote and reward literal white supremacist hate speech and calls for violence. I personally don't think there's a practical distinction between "Musk" and "Musk's politics" at this point, his actions are informed by his views. And even beyond that, Mindy was specifically announcing support for him in a political context, so that was what I was making my cases against.

I've been trying to give Mindy grace and pick his brain a bit by way of presenting facts and taking his responses into account to learn about his viewpoint. But at the end of the day, some people (not talking about anyone specific here) just have fundamental moral differences and I believe it's perfectly reasonable for anyone to set boundaries and draw lines in the sand. At any rate I'm not sure that's even that relevant at this stage of the thread; I don't think anyone here is shunning Mindy or shutting him out, I think their reactions have all been perfectly understandable ones given we're talking about someone saying they'd vote for the Nazi salute guy. Jimmy, TH and I have all posed questions, I don't think anyone here is unwilling to have a conversation.
