Maybe he was, I don't know. But the point is neither do you nor the media but it will be reported differently based on the race of the offender and victim and I think that is wrong and potentially harmful.

No I don't think it should always be reported. More like the other way.

If its relevant then fine, until we know otherwise then don't put it in the headline or even in the article. For example with the Stephen Lawrence case, race was relevant. But I don't think it should be stated by default only when the demographics are a certain way round. I think that is wrong.

I think race should be mentioned about as much as whether they've got a foreskin or when they last had a shit.

Unless as I said it is actually relevant to the case like it was with Stephen Lawrence.

i believe that it's much more likely an old white guy shot that kid in part because he's black than that black guy had a racist motive

npr put a very likable photo up of the white kid who was shot and an ugly shot of the shooter

it's when they play the not releasing the ethnicity of minority criminals altogether that bothers me

if it's a non-issue or even not worth letting the reader decide i guess our race problems are over

If it was a hate crime or race was somehow suspected to be relevant by the authorities, then the race would certainly be news worthy. But honestly i don't doubt for a second they will go with the race angle quicker if it's a white perp and a black victim because that story will generate more interest and outrage just because of the racial aspect. Regardless of if it's actually true or not.

i just don't get how people justify leaving the race of a criminal out of any crime report
