Am I missing something? How can he be claiming that the fact he was her guardian gave him the right to sleep with her? Surely, if anything, morally if not legally, it gave him the exact opposite? If someone is entrusted into your care you don't have the right to abuse that trust and then say "oh well I was their guardian". Am I wrong here?

i think it just gave him permission to take her on tour with the band and pull her out of school

i don't blame her for trying to pad her nest egg but gtfoh w/ trying to tell me going on tour w/ with aerosmith and being the girlfriend of one of the biggest rockstars in the world wasn't the best time of her life

We all know many rockers did some shady shit with far too young groupies back in the day. I agree the guardiaship adds a layer of ick. I assume that means she had noone else and you're supposed to take the role of parent and not bang the child. The power in that relationship is all skewed his way.

I guess what's a little weird is it being brought up so much later. I think in order to really comment on that, it'd be relevant to know more about how it was for her and how it affected her later in life.

she got married and became a teacher and was probably the only one in her social circle who ever did anything worth talking about

he dumped her when she was 19 probably for another 16 year old so she never got to cash in - she deserves a secure retirement for services rendered even if it's five decades on

it's not because she was damaged that she deserves compensation it's because all the twenty and thirty something rock stars back then had teenage girlfriends- it was a part of the lifestyle- he was able to live the rock star lifestyle fantasy of that era because the people around him played their role as well - the roadies the groupies they all deserve further compensation

hell, i bought their records when i was around 13 or whatever- i should probably get at least ten grand - i too built their empire of decadence

You may have to read it again. One couple early on has a child that eventually dies. I think it falls through a roof window, possibly while on LSD. Before that happens, she describes how they sit in this hippy circle and pass this little boy around and the girls make out with him.

There's a photographer who wants to take pics of a naked 12 year old on a horse. The writer sometimes laments that guys in general find the lowest teen hotter. She loses Jimmy Page's interest (I believe it was) to someone who's way too young.

The author isn't addressing it very directly (she's not very judgmental), but its presence is definitely there.

To put it a bit simplistically, sexual mores have shifted in the US from a fashion for libertinism at least in certain circles all the way back to the American default of puritan paranoia. The human mind isn't really prepared to absorb such dramatic shifts in worldview, hence we're living in an ongoing sex panic.

There was like a month where all Twitter talked about was how some Youtube or podcast retard cheated on his wife and how they all streamed about it. One of the biggest MeToo scandals in the Montreal art scene was over a consensual sex between adults: amid the general outpouring of sex feelings the woman suddenly decided that she was used or something. "It wasn't cool because he was married" was quite a refrain 

I've never realized Canadian women in the 2010s were helpless victims of the patriarchy with zero agency or control over a sexual encounter but that was the picture being put forward by all that.
