Inside the 'cult' that fooled Newark into being sister cities with a fake nation

QuoteWhen officials in Newark recently got tricked into establishing a sister-city relationship with the United States of Kailasa — a country that does not actually exist — the largest metropolis in New Jersey became a global laughingstock.

But those in the know find nothing funny about Newark aligning itself with a nation created to honor the so-called Supreme Pontiff of Hinduisim (SPH), Paramahamsa Nithyananda.

The swami is allegedly a fugitive from justice who's been, according to the BBC, charged with rape and child abduction in India.

He is said to have fled that country in 2019 and his whereabouts are unknown.

Only in Jersey, huh?

Also in Kailasa.

Throw your dog the invisible bone.

What's 'digital blackface?'  And why is it wrong when White people use it?

i actually agree with this article that using black people to express exaggerated emotions is akin to minstrel show type racism but i also think it's too much of an uptight white liberal (or black white liberal) virtue signaling to worry about it - blacks are funny especially when they're extra black

it's technically wrong and exploitative but it's wrong to try to take all the fun out of online communication as well

oh also lol @ the editors choosing to capitalize the word white -

People use all sorts of gifs. White, black and everything else.

More whingeing about whites and how everything we do is racist. Really couldn't give a fuck tbh.

Only God knows.

QuoteNashville school shooter Audrey Hale identified as transgender and had detailed manifesto to attack Christian academy

QuoteNashville police revealed that the 28-year-old who shot and killed six people at the Covenant School, including three children, identified as transgender and had a detailed manifesto to attack the Christian academy.

Officials said Audrey Hale, a former student, entered the school Monday morning by shooting through a door on the side of the building.

While inside, Hale killed Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9, as well as custodian Mike Hill and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, both 61, and school head Katherine Koonce, 60.

Following the shootings, Hale was killed when they encountered officers on the second floor by 10:27 a.m., four minutes into the shooting.

I just felt the biggest pit in my stomach. This shit just isn't fair.

This person has just thrown a match onto the gasoline swamp that is the right wing hate party. We're all doomed.

"stressed" is just "desserts" spelled backwards

In a way that's not surprising given the nature of the rhetoric coming from both camps at this point.  Not just on this issue but on every single issue.  I feel like a civil war feels more likely than it ever has in my lifetime.

haters are gonna hate

the people who will hate an entire group based on the actions of one already hate you

people who understand that problematic outliers don't represent the entire group still understand that

at least for the most part - nothing is 100% when you're talking about many millions of people- it might shift the needle a little but not a lot

people hate you because you threaten their vision of how society is supposed to be structured and unfortunately that's baked into your struggle

gender fluidity and non-binaryism is probably the most radical paradigm shift of my lifetime- when i was in college these concepts were so fringe i never would've thought they would be embraced to the degree that they have - it's a burden to pioneer a new path to freedom for the future and it's not a burden you asked for but you can take pride in the truth that you're a part of the vanguard of a new kind of freedom that will be enjoyed indefinitely by our posterity

so keep your chin up - you're a freedom fighter and a hero even if you never wanted to be and believe it or not you're winning - the fact that it's even a conversation now is proof

I agree with you to an extent that really the trans stuff gets way more support now than it did when i was growing up.

But at the same time people weren't shooting eachother over it on a regular basis back then.

Like back then the comparable issue was gay rights.  While you had some high profile hate crimes,  you didn't have the constant drip of yet another mass shooting or terror attack every month or so.  When shocking shit did happen it wasn't nearly as political either.

Now it's like for every shooting there is necessarily going to be 2 competing political narratives.

i remember gay bashing being so common that members of queer nation guarded places where gays congregated with weapons

and there were many deaths that were never identified as hate crimes

gangs of people used to roam the streets hunting homosexuals
