In spite of the obnoxious softballing of TERFism in the article, it's so great to see so many public figures in the UK speaking out against this bullshit. I've been seeing various statements in my feed from all sorts of organizations pushing back. They and people like the 10,000 strong protest last month that the UK media refused to acknowledge give me hope and strength that the bigoted ideology behind the UK's anti-trans legislation isn't actually popular. The more people speak up, the weaker their narrative gets.

Supreme Court upholds Trump's ban on transgender military members while appeals continue

This is devastating and sets a terrifying precedent. Read their rationale for banning us from the military:

Consistent with the military mission and longstanding DoD policy, expressing a false "gender identity" divergent from an individual's sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service.  Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual's sex conflicts with a soldier's commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one's personal life.  A man's assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.

The Supreme Court just ruled that this is a fair and just statement. It is the official position of this country now that every single one of us are dishonorable, liars, and undisciplined. Establishing such a disgusting and hateful attitude toward the moral character of all trans people will be used to do far more widespread damage to our rights, mark my fucking words. And all this is coming from a government infested with rapists, white supremacists, criminals and conmen. Every last one of them can eat shit and die.

Very notable that the language of the ruling ends up narrowing in on trans-women specifically. Pretty consistent pattern, that. Trans-men are obviously impacted too, but they never ever come up in this line of "reasoning". The puddle-shallow reasoning underpinning it all which amounts to "being trans = lack of honour, truthfulness, and discipline... because reasons and uh...stuff" is disturbing compared to the usual depth of reasoning typically given (even if it is bullshit). It's meant to feel "truthy" to resonate with people's biases. That's the thing with authoritarian and fascist thinking... there is none. It conflates intuitive leaps based on people's biases with some intuitively self-evident "common sense" set of "facts". This is why people who fall into fascist and authoritarian thinking end up becoming so hard, sometimes impossible, to reach. They've stopped being able to adjust their views to reality and become actively hostile towards doing so or any attempt to challenge them. They rely on rulings and legislation like this to fabricate institutional legitimacy that aligns with views that can't otherwise be defended with actual reasoning. Trans issues are about the clearest example to see this process playing out.

The fact that this sham government has designated a tiny minority of people who are already powerless, downtrodden and widely hated as being of inherently worse character is bad enough, but it was just one of Trump's dumb executive orders. To put the full influence of the highest entity of American law into codifying that designation as legitimate... I'm honestly speechless. Attacking the character of a minority and labeling them as untrustworthy and deceitful by nature, like I'm sorry but these people are huffing on powerful Hitler particles.

Kemp signs bill banning gender-affirming care for transgender inmates

Let me make this gravely clear: if the state can just decide to legally mandate forced detransition upon trans people, the message that is sending is that a person's continued existence as a transitioned person is conditional. I shouldn't have to tell you how chilling it is to set a precedent that transition can just be revoked by the state.

This is like stripping diabetic people of insulin, or schizophrenic people of antipsychotics (both of which are allowed in prison btw). The media's reporting of this also colossally fails to mention anything about the devastating effects people suffer when forcibly cut off from HRT because of these cruel, heartless politicians. The alarm needed to be sounded yesterday.

And this is in addition to the inhumane treatment of trans women in prison in general (because of course they will be forced into men's prisons because of these cretins). Read up on v-coding for some info on that.

I want you to read these stories from post-op trans women who have experienced involuntary removal of HRT, in response to the question of whether one would suffer debilitating health problems. And keep in mind this will be orders of magnitude worse in male prisons. Sourced from this Reddit thread.

You end up with osteoporosis. Your bones dissolve and break. I had the orchi in 1990. I was on HRT for 3yrs and my doc moved to Florida and my shrink moved to California. I spent the next 10yrs fighting through gatekeepers trying to find anyone who would help. I was denied help by the University of Minnesota and Sanford Hospitals. I found help occasionally in the private sector but in the end, had a 63% bone density and shattered my elbow from a simple fall. It still doesn't work right. I was put on HRT and Reclast. You will have hot flashes for quite some time. You will not die though you may wish you had. 

It is true. Die is a bit extreme. But the body needs hormones to function. Without gonads, post-op people do not produce their own hormones, so they need to get them from medicine.

Many cis women suffer through/after menopause. But there is no need to, we have the technology. My 72 year old mom takes estrogen.

While yes they get menopause like symptoms, it's actually worse than that. A cis person will still produce some hormones from their gonads which can at least help stave off bone loss and other symptoms. Post op folks have such low natural hormones that once you remove their medication, they'll fairly rapidly lose bone density. This has happened before to a trans woman in prison. All it took was five years before a simple fall was enough to break her hip when she was in her thirties. Without hormones the bones don't heal well and such an injury is very life threatening which is why so many people scream not to take an hormone blocker unless you supplement with the other hormone.

Menopause symptoms, including low bone density? Yeah. That happens when someone's sex hormones go poof.

Dying from it? Well, it's complicated... We know that doing HRT soon after menopause in cis women lowers all-cause mortality by making heart attacks (and other bad things) less likely. From that we can reasonably infer that running out of them hormones is not nice to the heart, and it would be really not-nice to force someone into menopause. She will be more likely to die earlier, but you can't quite pin that solely on stopping HRT.

Your body needs at least enough of one sex hormone to function. It's mainly bad for your bones but it can also affect brain and kidney function and yes over long periods of time could lead to death.

Menopause, osteoporosis, and a long drawn out disability that could be permanent in a bad case of it. If you're lucky you'll have a very drawn out and likely painful death. Not good but marginally better than living in constant pain and breaking bones easily.

This is the kind of stuff I'm trying my best to spread to anyone who still thinks republicans have some baseline of humanity toward trans people, that their goals with regards to treatment of trans people are reasonable or measured in any way. The complicit mainstream media are going to continue framing trans people's human rights as a "debate" where there is any "side" that is valid to take besides "don't fucking torture and cripple people". At this point it's not "debating talking points", it's pleading for our humanity to be recognized.
