The article says they can't apply for a Visa because of the ID. With a new ID, they can apply.

I had to pay 85 dollars and go to a court hearing to change my gender marker. The whole process took over three weeks to process the change and two more to get the ID. I don't know if Canada even lets you revert it, let alone multiple times.

I'm sorry, it's utterly ridiculous to suggest that people keep flip-flopping their IDs every time they want to go to the US to do something like visit their loved ones. As I said, it functionally deters trans people from entering the US by making it too much of a headache and a toll on them. It was something they used to be able to do perfectly fine and now the Bigot Administration is doing this specifically to fuck with an already persecuted group.

I don't know why you seem to be taking everything completely at face value.

What if we just replaced oxygen with swag?

Because the headline said "Trans people unable to enter the US due to Visa denial". If that's not happening then don't use that headline.

It is happening though. If a trans person tries to apply for a visa to enter the US, they will be denied and unable to enter the US. That is a true statement, and that's all the headline says. You're the one who inferred the meaning of "explicitly, unavoidably and permanently banning trans people from entering the US", when neither I nor the article actually said that.

At this point if we're just arguing semantics, then I see no point in continuing this.

But they can apply. They can apply with the required ID. The headline is misleading.

And I've given you at least 4 or 5 different reasons why this isn't a realistic workaround. If you want to suggest workarounds, he could also smuggle himself in here illegally for that matter.

A headline has to tell the reader what the article is about in one concise line, and they're not obligated to list every ridiculous strategy trans people could use to circumvent this very obnoxious, discriminatory restriction. The point is that it's an obnoxious, discriminatory restriction that will functionally lead to many trans people being deterred from entering the US, and I don't think chiming in to do nothing but nitpick and say "oh just change your ID and then change it back, it's simple" is helpful at all.

It isn't nitpicking. The headline is deliberately misleading.

"deliberately" lol. It's someone's blog post detailing the experience of a trans person getting their visa application denied, you are reading way too much into this if you think there's some secret ulterior motive behind the wording of the headline lmao.

They are able to enter, we've established this already, so yes it is misleading.

I'm tabling this ridiculous semantics argument. This thread has been clogged enough.

All right, all right! Message received! I'll get right on it!

Not news, but this is a great video about the tactics used by fascists, bigots, far righters and any other term that means the same thing. You can see the patterns in pretty much every anti-trans argument that has been forced into the public discourse over the past few years.

Link to the filing.

I don't imagine this will do much to Trump regardless of the outcome, but it's good that people are speaking up and showing the people who claim to want to protect children exactly where MAGA's persecution of trans people leads.
