The funding freezes to US science are already catastrophic and the banning of "woke" words from funding applications makes it incredibly hard to do conduct normal research. It stifles a lot of research while promoting research that suits administrative narratives. The gov pumping funding into selected areas of research is not abnormal or bad per se, but when work that would provide contrary evidence is clamped down on, that's a fundamental undermining of science itself and a massive loss since American research is a powerhouse. Made even worse when this is all in service of further dehumanizing a scapegoated group that's being made increasingly vulnerable. Makes my blood fucking boil.

Because he lives in Canada and they still respect changes of gender on ID there. Even if he could somehow revert his ID to his birth sex, if he got an incorrect ID just to travel to the US, he'd have to deal with having the wrong gender on his ID when he returned to Canada. It's an utterly ludicrous amount of humiliating hoops to jump through just to tour in America, and it's tantamount to a ban just by making the process needlessly complicated, confusing and detrimental to the person involved.

It's not literally a ban, no. But renewing ID costs money. And trans people don't like to go around with the wrong gender on their ID because a large percentage of us enjoy living our lives normally without being outed as trans, and especially in America, there are very valid safety concerns with being openly trans in some states. It doesn't have to be an actual ban to be bigoted and discriminatory accomplish the goal of a ban by being an incentive for trans people to stay the fuck away from America.
