It's a sobering thought. The Democrats have been, let's be honest, savaged and eviscerated on behalf of the GOP by the voters: there's no way they can put a positive spin on this. Trump is on course to win at least 300 votes (or however many there are left to win, correct me if I'm wrong), with almost, at this moment, 70 more votes than Harris. The Senate is gone, turned red, in total control of Trump's party, and the House is, surely, likely to follow. America is, and will be, for at least the next two years, controlled entirely by the Republican Party.

Harris leaves the Vice-Presidency in I guess January, Biden will be carted off to some old folks' home for retired presidents (the Pink Floyd song, "Fletcher Memorial Home" comes to mind) so who is left to lead the Dems? There's nobody, so far as I know, waiting in the wings, and even if there is, he or she would want to be a cross between JFK, Obama and Clinton to be able to resurrect what appears to be a dead party. America has lost faith in the Democrats: is there any way they can come back?

And if not, will the GOP tighten its control, under the scowling shadow of Trump, over America for the forseeable future? Is this the end of a two-party system?
