Hi there, Guest :)

Edit: If you're a newcomer, don't forget to check out our Newbie's Guide to SCD!

Although chances are you MB veterans already know me, I thought it might be good to make an introduction thread here. I'm a norwegian and I've now entered my forties. I'm married and I gots me two kids. By education, I am a biologist, but my work is in wastewater management.

In my spare time, I sometimes try to be a musician in our band Gladlaksene or with one of my various solo projects. I have a recording studio at home where I try to produce some music from time to time. I play a bit of drums, guitar, some piano and I can do most things on my own besides singing. I can usually hit the notes if they're in my range, but my voice just makes an awful sound.

Other than that, I'm a big consumer of various pop culture, especially things in the fantasy / horror genre, although my tastes admittedly sometimes border on snobbish. When it comes to music, I listen to jazz to relax, pop to get energized and various flavours of avantgarde music if I want a more profound listening experience. Some artists I might enjoy these days are Billie Holiday, Aksak Maboul, Frank Zappa and Tears for Fears. Yes, I realize I have the music tastes of your basic baby boomer.

Some other things that interest me are astronomy, skepticism, visual arts, weird foods and.. Oh, I've been active on forums for about 20 years and also like running web-apps and so on, which is part of why I'm attached to this.

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome, Guybrush! Of course we have met before on another forum, and I remember that our musical tastes overlap, or sometimes don't.

Congrats on being an active participant in the making of music. I've never had the talent or patience to try anything like that, hence being a lisna instead. Jazz, rock, world sums up the types of music I most often listen to I think.

I also soak up a lot of pop culture; more than I care to admit of YouTube, Netflix, etc., but when I overdose on tv, books, music I have a cheap remedy that has given me lots of pleasure: clearing my head with a long a walk or a bike ride.

Good luck with this new forum, Guybrush.

To get lost is to learn the way.

Thanks, Lisna! I'm very happy to see you here :)

My own method for clearing my head is usually playing some music or gaming. Not as healthy as taking walks, unfortunately, and gaming sometimes keeps me up at night

Yeah, it's not something we need, but kinda fun still to be able to specifically address the reader :)

don't make the trolls mods

his is this spam?  I Wanna be a mod please because I was the ultimate MB troll but I want to tone it down for this forum as I thusly regard a proper internet forum poster.  I hope that you lot will take heed of my presence and thusly welcome thou with open arms.

Haha, thanks for the appeals :)

Me and Trollheart will put our heads together eventually. The current proposal is to find some roles for our moderators so that they have some defined responsibility beyond just being a mod. We're not planning on being very demanding in terms of work, but maybe someone can try and keep the forum events alive and well while another works to promote journals or album reviews, etc.

I also think there should be a yearly mod team zoom/teams meetup with the mods team so we can have a chat about where we are in terms of goals, plans for the future, etc.

We'll make a thread about it at some point soon, probably.

It's a feature that I will be having fun with at least. Don't you think it's a great idea Guest?

In the age of ignorance, being informed is a choice.

It has potential.

By the way, about that Guest. What's up with the rampant Oedipus complex? I know they find their parents hot, but that's just messed up.

Better put in this disclaimer: this joke targets the reader by the use of the [you] bbcode.

Hello! I hope everyone over here is doing well. I decided to make an account and see what was up, seems cool so far!

I'm the Mrs. Waffles, former The Other Site lurker extraordinaire. I'm in my early thirties, and am a passionate music lover, especially rock and electronic music. I also enjoy baking, writing, vintage fashion and beauty, cheesy movies, and YouTube video essays.

I used to play keyboards in a couple small local bands in my teens and twenties, but I haven't made anything more than personal little noodles since I left my last band in January 2011.

Looking forward to talking with you all!

Hey Synth!

Glad to see you here :)

You probably mentioned on MB, but what are some bands / artists you like?

Glad to be here! Just a small few of my favorites would be, in rough chronological order: Tangerine Dream, Genesis, Yes, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Devo, Klaus Schulze, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pantera, Korn, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Lady Gaga, My Chemical Romance, Dorian Electra, Suicide Silence, the list goes on.

I'd describe my taste as some kind of nexus between a 70s prog nerd and a late 90s mall goth, haha.

Cool! We have some overlapping musical interests, then, at least in the world of 70s prog :)

I was never a goth, but was nevertheless part of a mainly goth online community that existed on IRC in the 90s and up until around the turn of the century (wow, getting old). I definitely listened to a lot of Sisters of Mercy and The Cure at some point with a bit of Bauhaus and Siouxsie etc. sprinkled on. That's a long time ago now, though.
