Whole Lotta Helter Skelter...

This was a pretty well known one:

I'm big into house music, so in that arena, mashups are standard and expected - but not everyone likes to hear their favorite songs sprinkled on top of a four on the floor beat.

Here's a good recent example from one of my favorite house DJs:

Combining Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition" and M83's "Midnight City" with a couple different house beats:

Nice to see a mash-up thread in the group!

I maintain a massive library of plunderphonics, cut-ups, b*stard pop, and mash-up music. In my physical archive I have a number of historical artifacts related to the genre.

That includes an original pressing of Buchanan & Goodman's 7" single, "The Flying Saucer Pt 1 & 2" from 1956, widely considered to be the first "break-in" record in history, Avalanches' LPs, and a first-pressing of The JAMs' notorious 1987 What The F*ck Is Going On? LP.

That album could never be reissued in today's world of militant copyright litigation. The record makes liberal use of samples ripped from massive artists who would be untouchable in the 21st century, including Stevie Wonder, The Fall, Beatles, ABBA, The Monkees, The J.B.s, Dave Brubeck, Sex Pistols, Scott Walker, Led Zeppelin and Bo Diddley. They were ordered by the court to destroy all copies of the record, so The JAMs burnt the remaining LPs in a pyre in the Swedish countryside, the scene depicted on the front and back covers of their 1988 JAMs farewell, Who Killed the JAMs.

I also have classics like Eric B. & Rakim ‎– "Paid In Full (Seven Minutes Of Madness – The Coldcut Remix)" and Bomb The Bass' sample-heavy "Beat Dis (Extended Dis)" DJ 12" single.

Among my digital archive are John Oswald's cult classic Plunderphonics EP from 1988, DJ Food's epic Raiding the 20th Century - Words & Music Expansion, all 146 rare bootleg albums issued covertly by Lemon Jelly (both physically and digitally), including the highly sought-after boots Fred Deakin discretely issued under the anagram pseudonym "Frank Eddie", and Lemon Jelly's sample-based boots pressed with no artist information but bearing their trademark graphic design and typeface.

I also have collections of mash-up releases by Loo & Placido, DJ Zebra, and DJ Z-Trip, as well as Avalanches rarities like the Since I Left You - (The Original Australian Zomba Promo Mix) with all the original samples intact that they were forced to remove to appease their record label.

But my largest library of mash-up music is a complete archive of 59 albums produced by Soulwax/2ManyDJs, including all of their studio albums, the complete As Heard On Radio Soulwax edits,  2Many Intros, Get Your Yo Yo's Out, all of the Hang All DJ's sets, every uncut Radio Soulwax transmission, and other miscellaneous DJ sets.

My favorite set from that catalog is Radio Soulwax #5 NOT to be confused with the more commonly-available As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 05.

The former opens with a mash-up of Skee-Lo's "I Wish" and Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger," linked below.

No mention of white panda or Girltalk?

For shame. These are my favorite mashups from the two.

I got into mashups big time because of Tom Clancy aka Goofle. We used to have big plug sessions playing different mashups.

Omfg I completely forgot about DJ Z-Trip til ISB mentioned him. Gotta go back and listen to my faves from him.

Gunārs Rozenbergs' "Disco Roze", whilst it could be considered call holding music, is the kind of tune I wouldn't mind holding for. It has that big band Broadway feel with what I think is synth bass which makes it too funky. Nice progressions too. I couldn't help thinking of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day". That could certainly be a good mashup those two.

Whoa, holy throwback! I remember showing this to everyone in my college dorm in freshman year. I haven't thought about it in years.

Yup! It's way better than it has any right to be. I enjoyed it with friends in college too. Oddly enough, I can't stand when Lil Jon is used in house mashups/remixes but this one is just pure joy.
