Yeah. After my gf got raped at 15, she couldn't handle anyone's touch on her skin for over a year. She had trouble hugging her grandma. So "it was just a fuck, how could it do all that to you" just doesn't cut it.
I think you could hazard a guess that minimizing her rape is GG's way of coping with it and diminishing its effect on her.

He has other videos showing other metro stations in China and they all look just as modern and clean as that one. There are other expats living in China with similar videos on YouTube. I haven't been to China and I haven't been to NYC for years, so I can't compare from personal experience. Maybe it has a lot to do with the U.S. spending so much on its military-industrial complex compared to how much it spends on infrastructure?

I learned geography, but I agree that there are quite a few Americans with a surprisingly poor grasp of it.
I normally hate Youtube prank videos but he has mastered the art and does them so well. Also the merch tie in near the end was super clever. I'm kind of tempted to get the shirt but at the same time. I don't agree with the message it conveys so I'm conflicted.

My limited exposure to what british people are like leaves me highly dubious that they're gonna be passing any on the fly pop quizzes on the street either.
Europeans and brits might be somewhat better at geography on average but that's only cause their countries don't matter. So they have more time to learn about their neighbors. At the end of the day, even they are more fixated on American issues, just like everyone else. Cause we're the center of the world.

yes true but it's not the same over here. Think of who our neighbors are. Canada and Mexico. So we're pretty much single handedly carrying the continent.
If you ever lived in America you would notice that generally speaking its big enough to be a world in of itself. And it's on the other side of the ocean from where the rest of the action is. So it's probably more insular for that reason.
And i would say the cultures being different in Europe basically adds to my point. The idea of it being inexpensive to go visit a dufferent country with a different language is pretty alien to me. The cheapest (safe) option might be fake france up there in Canada.

I imagine he's had his share of wipeouts. The footage of him riding on the sidewalks was the thing that annoyed me. I kept thinking he was going to run into someone while he was doing it. Illegal to do so in many parts of the U.S., but legal in L.A.

I live on the southern Norwegian coast, so crossing the ocean by plane will usually be vastly quicker than taking the ferry to Denmark and then getting on a train to somewhere from there.
Anything involving train's gonna take many hours. By plane, the direct flight from here to Alicante, Spain, is three and a half hours.

The brilliant Germaine Greer on teaching. As always, thought-provoking and powerfully stated. I love how relentlessly self-critical she is. The bit that begins around 8:20, about how she taught poetry to "difficult" middle school girls, is the kind of story most teachers would be self-congratulatory about, while she comes down on herself for having the students basking in her charisma rather than driving home the message that it's about them not her.

I'm currently reading about the experiences of this man (and others) after the bombing and it's pretty bad.
Like when he's in a boat and sees a group of people badly burned in the river. He tries to help them into his boat, but when he takes the hands of a woman and pulls, the skin on her arms comes off like long gloves. He can't tug on them because their skin is just coming off. So instead, he gets into the water and lifts them into his boat.
They're so weak, so he leaves them to rest beside the river and, exhausted, falls asleep a little later himself. When he wakes up, the water has risen and drowned the whole group because they were too weak to crawl away from the water.
So it's just this horror show; an incredible amount of grief and suffering mixed with shame and guilt.
A city wiped out. Eyes boiled out of living people's heads, their skin sloughing off, radiation sickness and burns - and all this happening to your countrymen, colleagues, friends, your own family.
Other people called the shots, but still. To shake that hand, I don't think I could. It might even feel like betraying the people of Hiroshima/ Japan.
The pilot keeps a lid on it, but you can tell he's a haunted man.

The japs were beaten. The US controlled the skies over the islands and were bombing at will. Soviet was invading Manchuria. Japan's army wasn't able to keep control of its own territories anymore.

The US had spent a lot of money developing the bomb. I think your leaders back then wanted an excuse to use it.
They needed to surrender. I realize the war was lost for them which is all the more reason for them to give in. But they weren't doing so.
And yes theoretically maybe they could have shocked them into a surrender with a slightly lesser attrocity. Who knows. But we had already fire bombed Tokyo to the ground and that didn't seem to do the trick. Plenty of innocent civilians died in that too. They didn't do precision strikes back then. It was total war. They flew blind over cities in the dark and carpet bombed, leveling entire city blocks randomly.
Let me add that Japan has been on their best behavior ever since.

Hoe zay is different. It's closer to mexico so makes sense.
Don't think it works that way lol. You pronounce it that way cos it's Spanish. You're just not used to pronouncing Detroit the French way.

Also there's a college in Indiana called Notre Dame, which is pronounced "Noter Dayme" rather than the French pronunciation.

I was in and out of NYC frequently back in the early 90's, and one time I was looking for a nightclub located on Houston Street which I hadn't been to before. I was walking in the area and stopped to ask someone if they could direct me to Houston Street. Haha, that would be pretty amazing considering my hormone therapy has caused my arm muscles to atrophy considerably.
It actually really sucks, I used to be able to lift and carry my 95 pound mother just 5 years ago and now I'm helpless to lift anything over like 30-35 pounds.

I think it's bullshit because I have experience where he's just an outside idea/solutions person. So that's my animosity towards him and his fabled ideas. I'd love to talk to him in person to debate him and deconstruct all of his arguments right in his face.

Yeah, I've seen them and you're fucking huge, so I'm not surprised by the relatively "low" number. It's impressive at your size.
I haven't done max rep pullups with bodyweight in ages, so hard to tell. I can do 8 weighted with 20kgs, but it's neutral and close grip, so it might be a bit easier. I assume I'd be somehwere between 15 and 20 with normal grip and bw only.

Pull ups are rough. I doubt I can pull off one. I do use the assisted pull up machine at the gym but doing a pull up on my own. No thanks I don't think I can pull it off yet.

I started with resistance bands. I do still use them for high rep sets and stuff.
At the park on the climbing frame I can do neutral grip pull ups and I tried and it's much more comfortable than overhand grip. Maybe try some different grips.

that was disgusting to watch because I was in the middle of eating breakfast while watching it. My big toe looked similar to his but it wasn't AS bad it was just super hard for me to cut on my own and I would only get it cut when I went to see my podiatrist.
I took all the medication stuff she gave me and the new growth came in healthy and pushed out the bad stuff. I do wash my feet pretty regularly so I don't know how my big toe got like that but it did. I'm also diabetic so maybe that has something to do with it but yeah. Groddy.

I definitely vibe with that simple kind of life, in a lot of ways we try to live by some of those same principles, with modern conveniences of course. I cook from scratch as much as I can, I try to keep a peaceful harmonious atmosphere in our home, I definitely can see a lot of me in her.
Though if we were to live in a mountain cottage like that I don't know if the mister could handle being away from his assortment of electronic gizmodgery, haha.

Same here, Mrs. Waffles - I love her bright blue house, and also the blue buttons on her sweater vest, and her tweed skirt and boots. I kind of dress similarly to that in winter - except I don't wear a scarf on my head lol.

I see he touched on it in the video but it's mostly the infrastructure for charging EVs that's the problem. It's great the Telsa opened up their super chargers to allow any EV to charge on them but they still have a ways to go.
