Elaborate swing dance numbers are my favorite thing. I've always wanted to try to learn that kind of dance.

I just stumbled across this video last night. Hadn't listened to any Grateful Dead for a couple of years so I decided to watch it. Late 60's to early 70's is my favorite era for the band so this live performance hit the spot...

Lovely!

I'm sure I posted this all over MB some years ago, but while on the subject of Prokofiev, I love this video of Valentina Lisitsa playing his war sonata.

A restored 1940s US Variety show. The bassist at the end is intense as hell.

I saw that one a couple of weeks ago. Love seeing old footage cleaned-up/restored like that.

The Mysterious Forgotten Founder of The Velvet Underground

I've been listening to The Velvet Underground since the 70's but had never heard of this guy until I watched this video. Seems I've been woefully deficient in my knowledge of Velvet Underground band member history.

I first saw this video over a decade ago, and it gave me so much appreciation for Schulze as a performer. Seeing one person managing all those synths, sequencers and effects live in real time was so inspirational, and I discovered this style at the exact right time: after my college band broke up and I was feeling like I could never play live without a full band.

I've been working on getting my synths set up again, I redecorated and rearranged some things recently. I've had an idea for a concept recording in a synth ambient style for months now that I really want to knuckle down on during my free time.

I have to admit that since the niche success/meme status of the In Rainbow Roads tribute album, SM64-based covers have maybe become a slightly over-saturated phenomenon on YT, but I still enjoyed this one, and the thumbnail just keeps getting funnier the longer I look at it

Can it get any funkier than The Bar Kays at Wattstax?

Remembered reading that ribbons was listening to Isaac Hayes instrumentals. I think they opened for him at this festival.

You are correct, @Saulaac!  The Bar Kays are ACE!  8)  Have you ever seen the Wattstax documentary? - highly recommended.  It's like the funk Woodstock.

And I revere Isaac Hayes, btw - not only as a composer, but as a person.  If you see interviews with him, he seems to have been such a lovely guy.

IH's "Pursuit Of The Pimpmobile" from Truck Turner is another good one. That car chase is "right up my street"  :pimp:

Pete Townsend one of the main band members of The Who. Video starts about Quadrophenia, explaining the story and playing some of the music it contained....then going on with other stories about Mods mainly....Tying in the Quadrophenia Story again as well, because that is the basis of this Video. The Film itself was a great success btw.
Never want to forget the fabulous live shows Rosi and I attended many times, :-X  when young and free..
If you love or interested in the Who, it's worth the time watching this video.

haha so good I posted it twice.... :P

My favorite Who record will probably always be Live At Leeds - I swear, there's nothing else quite like that record. You can feel the sweat through your speakers.

Was my era so been to his concerts many times and always enjoyed them. I would not go now as I think it's never going to be like the young singer was, which happens to most of course.

Only the finest independent movie ever made!

It also contains a very obvious tribute to Cab Calloway starring movie composer Danny Elfman in a singing role 🙂
