Title: The jadis journal
Post by: jadis on Mar 18, 2023, 01:31 PM
Will be posting music and other things from my personal canon.

My first encounter with the good captain when I saw it late at night on VH1 or whatever music channel it was. His amazing voice is gone, obviously, but he's so fucking cool. I like that it features really gratuitous promotion of his paintings

I think she's my new favorite artist. Love the songs, the videos, the ideas, the aesthetic, everything

What a beautiful song. Also NO fans who say Smith ripped it off for Inbetween Days are deaf losers

Love me some New Order - personally I think their sound peaked with "Regret", my favorite New Order track - shame the album wasn't quite as great across the board as this track ("World" is good too, but sounds a tad more dated)

It's a lovely single but their early 80s vintage is where it's at imo

I think everything they put out in the 80s was great, but my favorite album is definitely Technique from 1989. I really dig the more overtly electronic dance tinge on that album.

Their really early stuff where it's kinda transitioning out of the Joy Division sound is also super classic of course.

This is probably my favorite song of those that still sound like JD

Always loved this single from Technique

As to albums, Low-Life is imo the best by some margin. One of the decade's perfect pop albums

It's too bad Miles went into his spiral of drug use and shacking up with groupies shortly after this was recorded. It would've been really interesting to hear what else he'd have come up with had he continued progressing in this direction.

Instead we got stuff like this after he unretired:

I'm pretty fuzzy on the chronology of Miles releases, it's hard to remember when something was recorded vs when it was released etc

But didn't he record Agartha, Pangaea and Dark Magus between Get Up With It and the really big meltdown? These are three of my favorite records of all time

Not big on the late era Miles tbh

Yeah, that's mostly true - Get Up With It was technically a compilation of songs that spanned recording dates. But both Agartha and Pangaea were recorded after it was. I suppose I was thinking more along the lines of what his studio efforts would sound like - but you're right, those live albums are some of his absolute best, with Dark Magus probably being my favorite.

Even by Nino Rota's standards this is something special
