Man, I haven't had Waffle Crisp in something like 25 years and yet I 100% remember how it tasted. That makes a good case for it being a top tier cereal I suppose.
I like Frosted Wheaties. The last bowl with all the crumbs from the bottom is like the cereal equivalent of an orgasm after a long edging session.

There are many imitators, but Waffle Crisp is the OG. I am disgusted by the kids cereal aisles these days - they're putting frosting inside Cocoa Puffs! Did it not have enough sugar to begin with?

I love 'em too - they're like the 'adult cereal' I can have that has just enough sugar to remind me of my childhood favorites without any other adult ever batting an eye in judgement. Good stuff. The blueberry ones are a particular favorite. The unfrosted wheaties suck ass though.

I think it's disgraceful that they started putting those disgusting marshmallows in fruit loops.

oh my god all the different product combos are so awful these days. capitalism for ya. like who was asking for candy flavored cereal? do ppl actually buy it? and all the disgusting popcorn combos coming out rn i cant even...
I wouldn't stress yourself too much over those weird cereal inventions !
I've noticed the same thing happen with crisps (= potato chips to you guys). For decades there used to be only "ready salted" crisps, then, big innovation, a Cheese and Onion flavour was introduced. The choice stayed binary like that for about 5 years, then Salt ´n´Vinegar appeared, and a couple of years later, the flavour flood gates really opened up. These days it's :-

What I'm not seeing yet is Loaded Coco Puff flavoured crisps, so yey capitalism, there's still an opportunity for a newcomer to make their fortune.
Some of the newer Walkers flavours are great.
Lamb & Mint
Marmite
Worcester Sauce
Ham & Mustard
BBQ Rib
Cheddar Cheese
When I used to smoke weed all the time, I used to eat crisp butties non stop.
I don't buy crisps much as they are addictive. I love crisps.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a whole bevy of flavors in chip offerings. It's a little bit of a different thing than the wacky cereals they're introducing now. With chips, it is at its base the same thing it's always been, but you have different flavors of that same thing to choose from. With cereals, they're likewise offering more variety, but changing it up in ways that make the cereal at its base different - e.g. putting frosting inside your cocoa puffs, or introducing marshmallows into pre-established cereal offerings that didn't have them before, or, as Tristan hinted at, literally creating cereal versions of popular candies. Like, who asked for this? This sounds absolutely VILE!

I'm not personally invested in this cereal hijinks as I don't eat it anymore and I don't yet have kids that do - and though I haven't bothered to do a statistical analysis to back up my hunch, my hunch is that kids cereals are getting more sugary and more addictive than they were in my childhood.
Also, I looked at your chip picture for about 30 seconds before I realized those chip bags weren't "Lay's Chips", but "Walkers" - this led me to do some digging and I found out that it's just a different branding in the UK than it is in the rest of the world as Walkers was an established chip brand that Brits were familiar with so Frito Lay kept the name when they bought the company out in 1989.
Thanks for the research, SGR, but it's a bit disappointing to learn that the good old Walkers brand is now just part of an international company.
I didn't expect you to be quite such a purist regarding those innovative cereals ! Let's hope for your sake the supermarkets will retain an old-timers' section for you ;D

The real abomination is when 7/11 introduced hotdog flavored sparkling water.
good grief a group of grumpy old adults whining over great cereal that's not even targeted towards you. Stick to your wheaties and honey bunches of oats and raisin bran for your fiber. old fogeys
The loaded cinnamon crunch is dope and delicious. The sour patch kids was kind of boring but it makes for awesome milk. The milk afterwards is great but the cereal isn't that great.

They do come off that way as adults complaining about sugary cereals targeted for kids. Idk how you don't see that. 🤷♂️
I guess I don't care :poop:
Okay so you initial post doesn't matter then. Post your fave cereal or gtfo.
You guys are acting like a couple of bozos.
What I don't understand is that my favourite cereals - Sugar Smacks (later changed to just Smacks in an attempt to, I suppose, cheat the sugar inspectors and attract the BDSM crowd!), Sugar Puffs (later called Honey Puffs for presumably the same reason) are effectively gone now. I don't know if they no longer make them or if they're just no longer available here, but in some ways I can understand that. Cereals are "supposed" to be healthy, and with things like sugar frosting on them they're probably not seen as such (though Frosties remain - they're grrrreat!) for some reason... ???
That's all well and good, but then they go flooding the market with cereals based on chocolate! Now surely chocolate is worse than sugar (or at least contains sugar) so how do they square that? If you have Coco Pops and Nesquik and god only knows what all, chocolate this and chocolate that, what's the point of getting rid of the old favourites that just had sugar in them? I mean, ban all or ban none, I say. And do they care that the Hunny Monster is out of work now? How will he get another job at his age?

I'm stuck with cornflakes, Weetabix or Frosties. Or porridge (oatmeal). I don't know what it's like at the breakfast table these days with kids eating their chocolate-flavoured cereal, but they must be jumping all over the place.
As far as crisps go, Lisna's recollection is not mine. We never had ready salted when I was growing up in Ireland. They were three flavours - cheese and onion, salt and vinegar and smoky bacon. Now we have them all, but back when I were knee high to an office tower block that was what we had. And we were happier for it. So I'm told. They were certainly cheaper anyway.

I don't have a favorite. I love them all equally. I'm not a cerealist.
Frosted Flakes has a strawberry milkshake flavor and it turns your milk into strawberry milk so so good.
Also tried and true cinnamon toast crunch is good.

If anything I think Sugar Smacks feels like a title more fitting of BDSM, that's one of the few contexts where I could see smacks being (metaphorically) described as 'sugary', lol.
Top 5 Kids cereals:
1. Waffle Crisp
2. Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries
3. Fruity Pebbles
4. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
5. Rice Crispie Treats
Put any of these in front of me when I'm hungry and I'll turn into a cereal killer.
I don't know if I could make a tier list, it's been a long time since I had most kinds of sugary cereal and I'm pretty sure the recipes for at least some of them have changed for the worse since the 90s. That or my taste senses have changed since then. No, it's the cereals that are wrong.
I used to take the little multipacks of cereal into primary school with me and munch them during the day.
Haven't eaten anything like this in over 20 years.
The recipes have probably changed, but I ranked them mostly off memory and nostalgia.
Capn Crunch is too rough on the top of the inside of my mouth never liked them.
Top 5 from childhood.
Corn Pops
Golden Grahams
Apple Jack's
Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Honey Nut Cheerios.
Honorable mention French Toast Crunch was so glad they brought them back.
As an adult, I went through a heavy phase of Honey Bunches of Oats. Now I just eat Oatmeal with a banana like an old fogey.

Ah yeah I remember them too. The problem being if you only liked one or two cereals you had to buy them all in the pack, so if you weren't, say, a Coco Pops or Rice Krispies fan, they got thrown out. I would have liked to have had packs of these with just Frosties or Corn Flakes or Sugar Smacks - 1 box just about filled a bowl.

A surprising amount, yes 😀
For the record, I don't really eat cereals except on very rare occasions BUT if and when I do, I like Cheerios.
Not sure which variety is best, but I believe they sell this at the local store.

Generally speaking, some or most of these cereals seem to wander far into the realm of the ultra processed and it's a place I try to stay out of.
Alright, let's do this. Kid Lexi's top five.
1. Froot Loops
2. Cocoa Pebbles
3. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
4. Apple Jacks
5. Frosted Flakes
I remember having French Toast Crunch back when it first came out but I can't really remember much about what it tasted like.
