Any self-respecting music forum needs a jazz section, and as far as I can see, so far we only have Guybrush's jazz fusion thread:-

So here we go, pile 'em up and pile 'em on: what are some of your jazz faves ?
I'm going to start with Hugh Masekela's
Home Is Where The Music Is. For me the whole album strikes the perfect balance between a mellow mood and sharp, exciting soloing:-
Currently listening to this album:.
Anton Eger - Æ (https://antoneger.bandcamp.com/album/-)
Don't think I ever heard anything similar. Eger is a drummer and the album is very rhythmical. It's groovy and often catchy but also kinda weird, I've seen it described as "wonky jazz". I love it! It's certainly not your grandpa's jazz and it is a bit adventurous but it's not nearly as niche as free jazz or something like that.
Edit: Also found a cool live version with reduced line-up.
^that sounded like something I'd like and it was :D
Haven't played all of your rec yet, grindy, but it sounds good so far. With the drum kit up high in the mix, the texture of the sound is unusual, I think.
Here's a track from the
Kilimanjaro Dark Jazz Ensemble that also fits your description of "not your granpa's jazz":-
John Larkin, later known as Scatman John (yeah, that guy mixing scat singing and eurodance) actually had a debut album featuring really cool, energetic, somewhat experimental jazz.
Recommended and not just because of how surprising this is.
Fantastic mix of groovy blues and modern jazz.
I misread the title and expected a completely different kind of thread.

Did you just jazz and wanted to share?
Alice Coltrane mention
She's great. I need to listen to more Indo Jazz, what a killer combo
Listening to Daoud from Toulouse, SW France. There's a strong jazz outfit from this corner of the world.
Some very cool arabic jazz:
Such a gorgeous ballad by a band mostly famous for more out there free jazz.

Jealous af!
Nick Van Gelder (ex. Ozric Tentacles, Jamiroquai drummer) was jamming a couple of days ago in a London pub. I saw this on his insta and thought, well it's not really jazz funk or jazz fusion. After a few minutes contemplation I concluded that it's just jazz (as opposed to unjust jazz?). So where better a place to post it than the Just Jazz thread.
^ Yes, that's a just piece of jazz all right !
Here's something a little wilder:-

Jesus, Lisna. This was stronger than I was expecting. The rock is strong in this.
In terms of impact I score this one highly. Reminds me of many a John Zorn rock in opposition (ROI) track, which is a great sound!
I think the jazz grandfathers would have liked this one from the punk rock boys and girls. :band:
