I'd just like to pause a moment and thank Tore/Guybrush for creating this new forum for us, and pointout that it is now over ONE YEAR OLD! And they said we wouldn't last! It is of course both due to him, and the faith you guys have put in both of us (I've done little but he insists on giving me credit) by essentially taking the metaphorical leap and abandoning Music Banter as it more or less abandoned us, that Something Completely Different has not only survived, but begun to thrive.
I'd like to share a post from Tore which was made in MB soon after SCD was created (note: emphasis is mine):
BUT! A forum is nothing without users. While a whole MB signup is too optimistic, we want to warmly welcome you and hope you'd like to check SCD out. Hopefully our features and growing community will make you want to stay.
The bolded no longer seems so unlikely or optimistic, does it? As we go from, hopefully, strength to strength, I'm sure we won't forget Music Banter, which was, after all, you could say where many of us grew up, made friends, and certainly where a lot of us learned a lot. But you could also say we outgrew the place, and with no oversight at all there and things really starting to stagnate and wither, we decided to create a place we could all enjoy and be proud of. Until we manage that, we'll have to do with this place!
Seriously, raise a glass and breathe the non-toxic air, and remember who to thank, as we wish Something Completely Different a

And here's to many more!
I love this place and I'm so proud to be a part of the great community we've built here.
I joined Musicbanter on the morning of New Years Day 2023, when I was sleep deprived and hungover and needed to occupy myself somehow so I decided to give the forum a shot, in large part just to see what people would think about me being a 15-year lurker. It blows my mind a bit that if I'd been able to get more sleep on that day I might not have ever signed up.
All I can say is having SCD in my life is the best thing sleep deprivation ever did for me.
You all are the best.
Well done for going for it. Glad it worked out.
The earliest posts of yesteryear are actually from January, I believe, and desember on our test forum 🙂 Nevertheless, I don't mind celebrating a happy belated birthday, so grats to all 🥳
And also thanks for your kind words ❤️ Trolls, as usual, gives me too much credit. I firmly believe this place wouldn't exist at all without him. The fact it was two of us legitimised the whole thing and he's also forgetting the various discussions on policies, the forums, the name of it, etc. To me, I can make a new forum on the site in about a minute, but it's the discussing and figuring out if we need one that's the actual work. Trolls has a great understanding of online communities and in a way that's a bit different from my own and that makes him extra valuable as a sparring partner.
So thanks to you as well, old friend 🙂
Congrats you two for having the foresight to start this up with the concerns that MB could potentially just be shut down one day randomly if it isn't making the head honchos money anymore, along with their hands off approach to moderation.
You sound like one of those people who has pragmatically married someone safe but dull (it's fine because you only quarrel passive-agressively with each other) and can't get their troublesome but exciting ex out of their mind
I guess you are the type that views arguing with a spouse to be passionate and exciting like you thrive in chaos.
Not at all actually
Well see what creative assumptions do you for. Absolutely nothing.
It gave me amusement and it was an analogy, not an assumption. I'm just poking fun at your post
Well happy to amuse you I guess. Did you think I was critiquing your work as a moderator on MB with my comment?
I was referring to the admin or lack thereof after Yac left.

Haha, we should get Yac to drop by.
I doubt I have it, but I'll check and see if I can find his email address.

no I didn't think you were critiquing me. The mods back in your time if anything

I mean, at that point you're just poking the bear. Just move on from MB and enjoy what you've created here. I see no reason to create a potential feud with another forum. Thinking this would be a positive move to contact the owner of the forum we moved away from is rather silly.

Nah, Yac isn't MB's owner or currently affiliated with Advameg as far as I know. He's just a dude 🙂
Fair enough
Isn't he a lady now? Or were you all just trolling me? This is what I was told anyway...

MB diss track perhaps?
This Kendrick and Drake shit has been OK I guess but let's give the fans some real drama.
If we're going to do this we need volunteers to wear MB uniforms and pretend to attack us so we can make a pretext for war! Meh, those tumbleweed don't stand a chance. They'll be easy to outwit in a combat situation.
The Yac account on mb was taken over by a new lady, yes. Yac the man is still a man.
It is a little sad to see MB in the state that it's in given its history tho I suppose if you neglect something for so long it reaches its inevitable fate. I'm all for a diss track tho. That'd be dope.
I think the diss track would be funny, but what current MB people would it even be dissing? K-Addict? That person who writes Axl Rose fanfiction? The site owners? I think the fact that barely anyone uses their website anymore is the greatest diss of all, lol.
I must say, this is all very diss track-ting.
Sorry, sorry.

This is a rather diss-turbing post
Hell with diss...
Diss town ain't big enough for the both of us
I used to have dysphoria, now I'm gonna diss forums, yah
The only forum rap battles ever worth having were those we had on MB with elph and Charles
I'm all for the 'just move on from mb' sentiment (which is why I was sassing at DJ earlier in this thread) but if people really insist on doing the diss thing again, just as an scd thing, I might join
I'll be honest, I have a lot to thank MB for. Over the roughly twelve years I was there I grew up musically, learning to listen to new things, and also learning that no matter how much I told people about my favourite artists, nobody wanted to know.
:shycouch:
MB failed due to a lack of interest and a kind of "lunatics have taken over the asylum" mentality, something Batty tried to bring here but was firmly slapped down and took his ball and went home. While there were some really great mods, some of them were, well, not great, resulting in people getting bullied and ostracised (nothing worse than being turned into a flightless bird) and the whole thing sort of collapsing under the weight of its own smugness and lack of interest. For all that, for a long time it was a great place to hang out and talk and argue, and just personally, I wouldn't be dissing it. It became what it became, which is a tragedy, but not necessarily its fault.
To paraphrase the series Red Dwarf: Music Banter is only guilty of being Music Banter. That is its blessing. It is also its curse.
The only tragedy here is your attempt to merge the Yorick skull scene from Hamlet with something called Red Dwarf
#MBdeservesbetter
(and please, scd was not even capable of firmly slapping down OccultHawk's flaccid little penis)

I still think your best work was the stuff you did with Metal Month and the subsequent years after. Seeing your thoughts on a genre that you otherwise wouldn't have listened to much and giving your honest insight on various metal albums was certainly a treat. You've had a lot of great moments don't get me wrong but Metal Month to me was some of if not your best work. Or at least my favorite of the work you put in there.

Thanks man, that means a lot, it really does.
Metal Month was great fun, but my god was there a lot of work in it! I usually had to start about three or four months prior, and to be honest it just ended up being more work than it was worth. I think another thing is that Metal Month III did not, if I remember, go quite as planned, with few comments and hardly any drama (must check back to confirm) and really, the insults flying, the "no you're wrong", the, how shall I put it, Frownlandisms that bounced off the walls like richocheting bullets of indignation and pomposity during that month were what made it what it was. When that stopped, Metal Month was a pale shadow of itself. And so was I.
But damn, it was fun while it lasted.
One of my other favourite (using the word advisedly) projects was my ill-fated journey into the world of boybands. Overall, I enjoyed that more than I hated it, and at least now I can say with the weight of knowledge behind me, boybands suck.
I do remember that the 3rd iteration wasn't received as well but I think that's just more of a result of the thrill of you jumping into a new genre had sort of gone away as opposed to the first one where it felt fresh and new. Not that it was a bad idea for you to continue it but it's definitely one of those things that the more you do it, the more stale it gets. That's sort of the nature of those things I suppose but I still look back at the first and even second iterations with fond memories. Some of the most fun I've had reading your thoughts and that's not to say everything else you do isn't fun. Metal month was special tho, no doubt.
Did people think I was being serious with the diss track post? Ffs

Your funeral. Just showing you where I got it. If they robbed it from some baldy English guy in a ruff who liked to scribble occasionally, not my problem.
