The coffee thread(https://www.tastingtable.com/img/gallery/coffee-brands-ranked-from-worst-to-best/l-intro-1645231221.jpg)
How do you take your coffee, black or with milk? How do you make it?
If I'm working, I probably drink about 4 or 5 cups a day. A really common brewer in Norway is the Technivorm moccamaster and it actually makes a great cup of filter coffee.
At home, the regular cup for me is a chemex (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemex_Coffeemaker) pour-over brew of lightly roasted beans, perhaps of african origin. I use about 6 grams of coffee to 100 grams of water and a temperature always below boiling, sometimes closer to 80 centigrades. I really like fresh tasting coffees with flowery nuances.
We also used to have an nespresso machine, but that broke some years ago. If we want espresso based coffees at home, we use a bialetti mocca brewer with finely ground espresso beans to make faux-espresso, then use our old nespresso milk foamer to add milk foam for cappucinos (generally our favorite espresso-based coffee).
How do you like your caffeine?
edit:
Here's how I do my chemex.
- I heat water to a little over 80 centigrades (we have a smart water heater & boiler with an inbuilt thermostat)
- I grind coffee beans (filter setting) - two of our spoons is about 30 grams
- I put in the filter and wet it with hot water which I pour out
- I place the chemex with wet filter on weight and tare it
- I add the ground coffee to the chemex, note the weight of the coffee and tare
- I gently pour over a small amount of water, roughly the same weight as the coffee
- I let it sit for about 30 seconds (blooming)
- I then gently pour over the rest of the water. My goal is usually 100 grams of water for every 6 grams of coffee.
- If I reach 500 grams of water and the pot needs more, I stop and wait for the 500 grams to filter through before adding more
I sometimes change things up depending on coffee / context, but this is the jist of it.
I have stopped drinking coffee and I feel so much better without it.

So coffee makes you sick? What kinda coffees were you drinking?
Caffeine does.
I drink about 10 ish cups of coffee a day when I am not working from home (where my caffeine intake is mostly covered by coke alongside some very strong instant coffee). At home I have started drinking mostly Friele Instant Gull as it has the correct colour (black), the correct content (caffeine) and is still drinkable how I make it (way too strong).
Strong instant coffee is my go-to if I'm needing one cup / fix to sort out my caffeine withdrawal headache
To make it more palatable, I add milk and sugar - something I never do otherwise with filter coffees.

10 cups a day seems a little excessive. Don't you get the jitters or insomnia?
Took a 3 day break from coffee, probably going to switch to green tea once this coffee is drank up
Green tea I never quite saw the appeal of. What's there to like about it?

Not really sure, just something different :)

Nah, almost 20 years of constant caffeine abuse means it literally doesn't affect me unless I don't get any. I drink caffeine constantly throughout the day and still sleep as usual.
I go through phases where I drink coffee a few times a week or daily for a few months and then I lose interest and stop for several months. I just started drinking a daily cup of coffee in the morning after not drinking any coffee for about 10 months. I have a small single cup brewer that I use and I usually just add a teaspoon of brown sugar or maple syrup to the cup. No milk or cream for me.
Switching to green tea tomorrow

Is that Chi-com green tea, comrade?
It's a powder you dissolve in water? That's not how tea is made.
I've never been a coffee person, I get through my days with diet soda and the occasional energy drink. My partner is more into coffee, I wish I could share his enthusiasm.

So how do people feel about the french press?
If you're not sure what it is, it's this thing:
I feel like out of the variety of brewers, this is one I don't like very much. The metal grille filter doesn't keep bitterness or cholesterol increasing fats out and the filter itself is a hassle to clean. It's folded over in a way that bits of coffee can get trapped in there and you have to dismantle it now and then to clean it out.
I feel like sometimes with a rougher grind, the taste from this method will lack depth, but going with a finer grind - which might be better for taste - will clog up the filter more.
Still, some people love their french presses.
I didn't start drinking coffee until I was in my early 40s. Now I drink iced lattes a couple times a week and the occasional cappuccino, but that's about it.
I cut down on the coffee, down to just one with breakfast.
I take it black.
Been drinking coffee again, mainly because I bought a bunch before I "quit"; and now I back drinking it to get rid of it.

Ahmad is quality tea, I really like even some of their sillier fruity blends
I'm really into Ethiopian coffee these days. Used to prepare it in a mocha pot but now I go for filter. I have a French press too but never liked it as much
Also I love the most basic American diner drip coffee. It's watery, it's rubbish and it's great
I also get Ahmad, mostly because the oriental supermarket around the corner sells it but it's nice. I get the loose leaf earl grey and mix it with ceylon or english breakfast
I get Yorkshire Tea.
I stopped drinking coffee and now have about four teas a day.
Every other tea brand is shit compared to Yorkshire Tea.
I'm just talking about the type of tea I drink, not the fancy teas that I think are posted above.
Also putting the tea bags in a flask with the boiling water and letting it cook all day then just pour and add milk when you want is miles better than boiling a kettle every time and waiting a few mins for the tea to brew. Flask cooking makes it extra tasty.

Ooo, coffee thread revival.
A trick I thought I'd try is adding
just a little bit of water to the beans before grinding.
It's a trick that removes static electricity and coffee dust going everywhere, but some researchers also claim it improves flavour.
You can read more here: https://www.science.org/content/article/want-tastier-coffee-add-splash-water-grinding-beans
The required amount of water is miniscule, but a simple trick on how to apply this is described by this coffee youtuber:
Btw, another little trick that might improve flavour and roundness/fullness is adding a tiny sprinkle of salt.
I only started drinking coffee in my mid 20s. Mostly because it was a daily thing with my ex.
Now I drink filtered coffee. Nothing fancy. Just one medium cup in the morning and maybe a tiny cup after lunch, but that's more an exception than a rule. I add half milk and lately a Hazelnut additive. I quit drinking coffee for a year once and I gained a lot of weight. So that being the only difference I put a stop to that and it corrected itself.
Tea is interesting for me. I hate black tea but I'm known to drink green, chamomile, and various other concoctions. I like fruit tea, but not the kind with real tea in it. I'm sensitive to caffeine. And I almost always drink my tea with milk which I am to understand is a UK thing. There's always comments when I have tea with the family.

Hey ISB,
That is a great song!
What are you up to today? I noticed to never replied back to the replies I made in the mental health forum for you. I removed them because I wondered if they upset you or something.
Are you a coffee drinker?
Thanks,
@QuantumSync!
Today I'm going on a coffee date with an artist friend in Niagara Falls.
I am a coffee drinker, though my preference is for really weak watered down bottomless Greek diner coffee.
In high school and college, I took my coffee with creamer and 26 packets of sugar. (I joked that I liked my coffee, "Al dente.") Now I just use 2 packets of stevia.
I posted to the Mental Health thread last night that I was fired again. I feel hopeless and the suicidality has returned. Sorry I either didn't see your posts or I had nothing in particular to say in response to them. This is a really bad time for me, especially now that I have the new car payment and mortgage with no income.
I'm scrambling to get health coverage so I don't run out of my meds.

Oh wow that is a lot of sugar.
Hope the coffee time with your friend goes well! Maybe reach out to them about how you've been feeling lately
