Spring is springing over here. First day where I felt the sun really caress my skin with it's glorious warmth and goodness.
What's it like where you are?
Pics very welcome.
Wrap up warm or stay cool, whatever applies.
Definitely spring here and the cherry trees are looking great.
Still some snow here, but it'll be gone soon and then I hope we're done with winter. The trees are budding and some of the early flowers (Crocus and snowdrop) have bloomed.
I had my first ocean dip of the year yesterday on a remote-ish beach where we went with my parents and my sister and her kids. It was actually a pretty warm day, about 8 degrees Celsius and very nice sun. We had coffee, a bonfire and grilled some burgers and hotdogs. The water was cold, but the dip was actually very refreshing and pleasant.
It's getting a little spring-y but there's still snow on the ground and more coming in a couple days.
Then we usually have one last blizzard in May.

Yesterday. Looks like the whole Bank Holiday weekend will be the same. Temperature is not high so it can be a little bit chilly but we're warming up 8)
No snow left here but it can still get below freezing in the early morning hours. It'll be another 3 to 4 weeks before I can put my plants outside.
Quite a bit of snow here still and was snowing a couple of days ago. Seems a cold spring so far. My guess is it'll flip around towards the end of the month and get nice and toasty for early may.
Yo, 84 degrees (29 C) is way too fucking hot for April. Whoever is in charge of weather deployment in my region needs a stern talking to from management. Don't make me come up there.

Norway is aaaight, but what I'd really like is to be stuck on some tropical island for a year. With my fam, of course.

Since speaking to my friend who lives in Madison it seems that Wisconsin gets extremes of weather. Very, very hot and very, very cold. I dunno why but it surprised me.

It's certainly been the case for a while. It's also very unpredictable; I can remember two times when it snowed here in early May, and this year we had 2 days in the 80s followed immediately by a 10 inch snowfall.
Our summers haven't been that bad lately heat wise. One crazy weather event we had was a week or two of almost non-stop rain back in the summer of 2018.
When you look back on it like that Madison weather really does feel kind of chaotic, haha.
Haven't had any proper snow for about five years now.
I was watching tutorials on YouTube on how to build an igloo and I'd like to give it a try now but we've had no fucking snow.
Maybe this coming winter.

What plants are you planting this time around? I should make a gardening thread. So I was premature and started our garden a tad bit early and ended up dying on us because we didn't have a proper set up for outside yet to transplant our seedlings to.

I have tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cannabis, and a wide variety of flowers. The tomatoes, peppers, and cannabis were started indoors at the beginning of April. I wait until mid-may to the beginning of June to plant my cucumber and flower seeds. I live in zone 6 on the U.S. growing zone map.

I'm in Zone 6 as well and we started ours indoors at the end of April but we didn't follow through and transfer them in time or move them to a better area and they started to die off in the 36 plant seeder thing we had them in. They were placed under an artificial light source and we watered them but they passed away. So we are starting from scratch again but waiting until we have mini pots to transfer them to and all to build up our fence that's going to be around our raised bed. I mentioned the flowers we planted in the other thread in case you were curious.

There's almost no coverage of these Canadian fires here. Sounds crazy, though.
I took one picture and every time I went outside I made sure to mask up. It's funny how we used to put on masks before entering a building and now I was putting on my mask after exiting the building.
I would take it off once I'm inside a place.
One morning when I went for a walk I thought it would be okay to walk mask less because it didn't look that bad but my nose was irritated so I went back to wearing my mask again for the rest of the 20 min walk.
There were times when it looked like a scene straight out of MadMax.

I walked to the grocery store this morning and wore a mask because the air quality was apparently "hazardous". It isn't too apocalyptic looking here, but it is noticeably hazy and you can smell the smoke.

Well because of this whole fiasco I now know about a website called IQAir.
Just drop in your city and you get the air quality number. So Tuesday at its worse the air quality was 176 and this morning when I went for my walk it was 4. Huge improvement! This weekend it's going up to 50 but that's no biggie.

I feel like the wild part is how much sooner it happened. Yes people expect heat during the summer but these temperatures usually happen the last two weeks of July and first two weeks of August. They started up way earlier than they normally do.
Also the extreme rainfall and flooding that keeps occuring.
Climate change deniers are really starting to annoy me. It's not so much that they're sceptical or don't believe there is a problem, it's more to do with their reasoning and refusal to accept hard evidence.
There are plenty who think it's fine because it's nice and cool in the UK now or it will be cold in winter. "Spain/Turkey/Greece are hot, so what?" They simply do not understand what the problem is. They think it's all a big plot by the mainstream media and we're being lied to.
Guys if you're really suffering in the heat, you can put your feet in a bowl or bucket of cold water. It really works! I did it when we hit 40c last summer. It was a relief.
It can be difficult to do it right though so remember to post pics if you do it and I can let you know if it's good or not. :)

I think a huge PR mistake that has been made by environmentalists over the years (and I'm one of them) has been to talk in terms of "saving the planet". Most people are selfish and shallow, so they don't care about saving things that they think don't directly involve them. The fact is that the Earth doesn't give a fuck. It will continue to exist without us. Addressing environmental issues is about
saving ourselves. Maybe if these denialist dipshits had gotten that message earlier, their sense of self-preservation would have gotten them on board with trying to fix it.
Very good point fully agree.

QuoteTerrifying heat maps show 52C Europe inferno - when will it hit UK?
With records for hottest temperatures recorded in Europe set to be broken within days due to Cerberus heatwave, forecasters and meteorologists are divided on how it'll impact the UK weather forecast
QuoteThe expert added it is unlikely to get significantly warmer in August in the UK. Temperatures typically average at around 20C in the country in August, a figure eclipsed by the monster 50C largely expected across Europe. Santé Publique France (SPF the French public health agency) estimated that heat is responsible for between 1,000 and 7,000 deaths annually, though this figure may rise in 2023 due to largely unprecented conditions.
So according to this, we won't sizzle in our Kingdom but southern Europe is going to suffer. It's already reached 47c in Spain during this heatwave. 50c is concerning.
It's much colder here now, during our vacation, than it was in June. It's slightly annoying. Couldn't we at least get some of that southern european heat up here?
Thanks a lot, nature.

Do you remember when it was 40c for a couple of days last summer? I never want to experience that again.
Well hopefully that was it for the hot and sticky weather. Our glorious Kingdom has been suffering for the past week or so with a September heatwave.

I can't imagine those neg temperatures, guybrush. Over Christmas in UK, I was waiting at a train station in a windy 8°C, wondering which would arrive first: my train, or my death from exposure.
Sorry for the problems you Northern Latitude guys are putting up with, but where I live now is right near the Tropic of Cancer, so appropriate clothes yesterday were shorts and T-shirt, so as not to overheat in the 30°C temp at midday.
Welp, we're getting a snowstorm starting tonight and continuing into tomorrow night. Mr. W took some time off to visit his friends down in Chicago, he was supposed to drive back tomorrow. We texted a bit this morning; the weather is supposed to clear up around 3am Wednesday morning and he's not scheduled for work until 8am that morning, so hopefully he can squeeze through that window and get back up here. I guess it wouldn't be an upper midwest winter without something like this.

The snow is on borrowed time here now. Today is noticeably warmer. It's only -6 out and expected to reach -1, so that's like 10 degrees up from yesterday. Tomorrow it should hit positive 1 so then it'll start melting.

I thought we were getting a warm spell now, but seems it was just one day and it didn't put much of a dent in the snow. At least not up where we live.
Now it seems like it's gonna be cold until Saturday. I won't complain, though. It's become an amazing winter.
Cold today.
We're hovering around freezing.
Going in the shed later to train
@Guybrush, I arrive dressed in gloves and bensie and hoodies. By the time I finish I am wearing a t shirt, shorts and the mirror is covered completely in condensation.

It's really cold here at the moment. It's been between -2 and -4 celsius for the last couple of days. I don't mind the cold too much. It has made it harder for my runs but I have been going to the local train station. I run the streets there because it's gritted and I'm terrified I fall 😅.

Past few days we've been below freezing.
My little nose is so cold. Nearly slipped twice the other day, paving was dangerous.

Freezing here now too, raining also, but then that's Ireland for ya. Mind you, we've had a pretty mild winter so far, so can't really complain. Could do without there being a hole in the roof though. :(
It's bloody freezing. God I hate this fucking weather. I've nearly died twice slipping on black ice. I'm cooped up here, covered in multiple layers of blankets and just waiting for spring to reappear. Fuck winter.
Cold here too, though I don't mind. We have three wood stoves in the house in addition to our two heat pumps and they hear up things quickly.
The most annoying thing is having to make sure the kids got enough layers on before they head off to school or kindergarten.
We finally got snow yesterday and I'm so happy. Just two days prior I got a memory from my photo app showing that our first snowfall hit on November 20th but this was eight years ago. It's been so stupidly warm I didn't expect the rain to change to snow. Last week we had 70 degree days and this week first snowfall.

Nah man winter is the best also the fact that you can bundle up in layers of blankets is the best feeling in the world and provides much better sleep than sleeping with no covers in the summer and just rocking back and forth and being unable to sleep because it's so bloody hot. Fuck summer!

Summer is where it's at for me. By then, my seasonal depression is long gone and I'm out dipping in the ocean ever day. I LOVE summer warmth to the point I sometimes wonder if I'm not born in the wrong country.
I get seasonally depressed in the summer and end up wanting to hibernate and stay indoors more with the AC blowing.
Anybody that supports winter should be banned. Educational Decree No. 86 states that anybody who is in cahoots with winter should be banished from all extracurricular activities. You guys are a fucking disgrace, please leave your badge at the door.
Move to a warmer climate m8. Winter rolls around the same every year.
I'm so pro winter that I'm thinking about moving to Alaska. I could just go a few hours north and go to Canada but meh.

Clear blue sky, but 24F, with an extra wind chill on my daily walk this morning. Mask and ear muffs required.
It's warming up. In the low teens here now which is very mild.
Pissing down with rain.
I much prefer this to last week when it was several below freezing.

For other posters, I know more or less where they are, which is a bit of essential info for a weather report imo. But how about you, Thelonious Monkey: I think you're in England, right ?

Wind gusts of 114 mph is pretty serious. I hope everyone in Ireland and Great Britain is ok.
There are plenty of YouTube clips to show what's been going on, and a discussion in the Everything Ireland thread, because Ireland caught the worst of the winds, I think.
