Shamelessly robbing this from a thread I saw over on MB. Post an album and the next poster says whether they have it, or have heard it, or not, then poses their own question. Just answer own, have heard, or neither. Nothing too obscure please.
Bat out of Hell - Meat Loaf
Yes. I bought it when it came out because of the Rundgren/Utopia connection. Like many high school albums this has not stood the test of time in Randyland. It never helped that my Father-In-Law started listening and touting this album 25 years after the fact. Fun fact, Meatloaf was on Cleveland International as was Ian Hunter. I saw Meatloaf and Ellen Foley take the stage with Ian Hunter for an encore of Cleveland Rocks.
Trick Of The Tail - Genesis
Yes, possibly my favourite Genesis album, tied with Wind and Wuthering. How they managed to get two albums out in the one year, after suffering the seismic shock of Gabriel's exit I don't know.
Small Change - Tom Waits

Small Change - Tom Waits
Never heard. I'm not very well versed in his music (though I've enjoyed his acting roles like his small part in Dracula 1992).
Ash Ra Tempel - Join Inn
That's a no-go fo me...but I did listen to a few of the tracks.
Kimono My House by Sparks
With that Sparks album, it's a "No" from me to both questions, although I have totally admired the album title. I have probably dipped into some tracks online, hoping, but failing to find anything that, to my mind, lives up to the wonderful "This town ain't big enough."
(I've also dipped into some Ash Ra Tempel, Lexi - and liked them enough to download a couple of their livelier songs.)
"And now for something completely different"...
Tonight's The Night by Neil Young

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Nope, never heard. Neil Young's music has always been hit or miss for me and I haven't really delved into his discography aside from the select stuff I really like.
Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water
Quote from: Lexi Darling on Feb 24, 2025, 02:54 PMNope, never heard. Neil Young's music has always been hit or miss for me and I haven't really delved into his discography aside from the select stuff I really like.
Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water
Well, Neil Young's discography actually works against him, imo, there is just so much of it: an artist can and should be proud of creating so many studio and live albums, but I think NY has gone to excess with all his archival releases.
This thread doesn't include the option I need for Chris Squire's
Fish Out of Water - which is:-
-borrowed it from a friend once, played it a few times, totally forgotten any impression it may have made on me.
Roxy Music -
Stranded
Actually it does, Lisna: that goes under the heading of "heard". So there's you own it, you heard it or you don't own it and never heard it.
Anyway, Roxy Music are a band of whom I have heard one album (think it's "Flesh and Blood", not sure) and have their greatest hits, which is, well, great. But other than that, no.
Hotel California - Eagles
My apologies for not paying attention to the options you made available to me, TH !
Yeah, Flesh and Blood was the only Roxy Music album I ever bought. I heard lots of their early '70s stuff too, but it wasn't until 2017, and thanks to MicShazam and grindy, that I started to really enjoy Roxy Music's live material, which I rate as better than their studio albums.
Hotel California - Eagles
Heard it, yes, owned it, no. But as I shared a house with someone who did own it, the album was there on the living room shelf, available to me for years as if it were my own.
Love - Forever Changes
Love - Forever Changes
Yes. I have a beautiful copy on vinyl I purchased years ago at a record show for $5 (USD.) It was used but looks brand new and turned out to be a pressing from the 60's. One of the all-time, must-have LP's for me.
Deep Purple - Machine Head

Deep Purple - Machine Head
Yes, have heard many times. A classic proto metal/hard rock album. (I don't own any music anymore so all my answers are going to be "heard" rather than "own")
John Foxx - Metamatic
Nein. I was not an Ultravoxx fan, though I liked a few of their songs, but if I was then it was with Midge and not the Foxxy one.
Powerslave - Iron Maiden

Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Yes, I have heard. Not the biggest Maiden fan on the whole but 2 Minutes to Midnight and Rime of the Ancient Mariner are classic.
Talk Talk - The Color of Spring
Quote from: Lexi Darling on Feb 26, 2025, 03:51 PMYes, I have heard. Not the biggest Maiden fan on the whole but 2 Minutes to Midnight and Rime of the Ancient Mariner are classic.
Talk Talk - The Color of Spring
I've heard it. It's quite good. It's a bit of a transitionary work, and I like their next two records a tad bit more, but it's still a great record. But really, looking at the album cover, I really think the album should've been called 'The Colour of Autumn'.
R.E.M. - Up
I had not heard but currently listening.
I Feel Alright by Steve Earle
Yes! Love all Steve Earle's music. Got into him via Copperhead Road and The Hard Way. Excellent musician.
Holy Diver - Dio
Quote from: Trollheart on Feb 27, 2025, 07:06 PMYes! Love all Steve Earle's music. Got into him via Copperhead Road and The Hard Way. Excellent musician.
I never knew what a great musician Steve Earle was until I saw him live. Great performer.
back to the game..

I've heard Holy Diver many times but never bought a copy...though I think I might have a copy. Fun album back in the day but I must say it hasn't aged well with me.
In Color - Cheap Trick

Don't have the LP but I did see them play live once. They were the opening act for Blue Öyster Cult when I saw them on their 1978 U.S. tour.
Now that I'm reminded of that show, how about...

Not heard! I love BOC but I'm only familiar with their studio albums.
Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love
Do not own, not sure I've ever heard from beginning to end but was certainly aware of this after the band broke.
Transformer by Lou Reed
Quote from: Buckeye Randy on Mar 03, 2025, 09:15 AMTransformer by Lou Reed
Yes. I have a Canadian release on vinyl. Haven't listened to it for years but I played it countless times for several years after I bought it back in the 70's.
London Calling - The Clash
Heard it, ie reviewed it once. Was surprisingly disappointed. I expected a total punk classic (not that I'd know about such things) but found a lot of it was filler. Then again, it is a double album, isn't it?
Journey - Escape
Quote from: Trollheart on Mar 03, 2025, 06:23 PMJourney - Escape
Never owned it and the only songs I know are from the radio. I don't particularly care for Journey.
Breakfast in America by Supertramp
^ Neither owned nor heard that album because (judging by their big hit singles) I was v disappointed with the direction Supertramp took after their beautiful self-titled debut album.
Quote from: Psy-Fi on Mar 03, 2025, 01:09 PMYes. I have a Canadian release on vinyl. Haven't listened to it for years but I played it countless times for several years after I bought it back in the 70's.
^ Yep,
Transformer made a really good impression on me too: some of the tracks were just so out-of-step with other artists at that time, and yet so cool.
How about:-
Roger Waters -
Amused To Death
Both the Waters and the Supertramp album I own (turning into Yoda here!)
Waters' album is a classic, though he does as usual moan about all the bad things going on in the world. If you enjoyed it, check out his double live In the Flesh, which includes Floyd material from the classic albums too.
Supertramp were a bit strange in the way their first two albums were written, the first as a sort of folk one and the second as a mixture of that and blues, then they hit their stride with Crime of the Century and never looked back really.
So, let's see: Black Sabbath by some band whose name I can't remember?
I have Paranoid somewhere in my vinyl collection I think. I have listened to the debut tons though it was one of my first "holy shit" moments when I was a wee lad. Strong memory of putting on a pair of headphones in an FYE music store and being blasted across the universe by NIB.
The Vapors - New Clear Days
Quote from: Weekender on Mar 04, 2025, 09:18 PMThe Vapors - New Clear Days
I never owned it but did hear a few songs other than Turning Japanese on our local college station at the time. There was such a glut of new wavey music at that time.
The Vapors have a really listenable new album and are also doing a summer tour titled, 'Lost 80's Live'. Included on the tour are Flock Of Seagulls, Big Country and six or seven other bands of that ilk.
Station To Station by David Bowie
Quote from: Buckeye Randy on Mar 05, 2025, 08:42 AMStation To Station by David Bowie
I have all of his late 60's to 1980 albums on vinyl from his debut to "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)" but I don't have a copy of that one. I've heard it many times, though.
Oddly enough, out of all of those albums, it would probably be my favorite if I had to choose just one.
Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
^ Totally listened to this many times over, but when it came to buying early Floyd, I chose this compilation instead, lured by the chance to get those single releases all together on an album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_of_the_Pink_Floyd
Time for his Bobness to make his entrance into this thread:-
Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
Quote from: Lisnaholic on Mar 05, 2025, 03:42 PMBlood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
I own a couple things by Bob but I'm not a Bobber. I do not own this but I am familiar with much of it.
Americana by The Offspring
