Hey Guest!

As you can probably tell by the name of this forum, both myself and Big T enjoy Monty Python. Spam! Spam! Bacon! Eggs! Spam!

Yet there has been no thread, until now (I think?). It is finally time for something completely different. Please share with us your favourite moments from this greatest troupe of comedians to ever climb the Uxbridge road!

My favorite sketches were always the ones where Cleese absolutely explodes.

Other favorites: The Royal Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things, "Semprini", and Raymond Luxury Yacht.

You're not being singled out @Auroras In Ice : it's a little progam that addresses whoever reads the post personally. I saw it as Hey Trollheart.

Anyway, wanna argue about it?

Yeah.... well, it's SPELT Luxury Yacht, but it's pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove.

Since the thread title doesn't "explicitly" limit to MP, I'll take the opportunity to diverge a little and go with Spike Milligan who is credited with being a major influence on MP, and the first to make offbeat comedy

TH and Brits aside, most here have probably never heard of him, but 800,000 listeners to the BBC world service voted him the funniest man of the last 1,000 years. A joke ultimately traced to him was also voted world's funniest (defined as most easily understood across cultures and demographics).

Yeah, personally I've always had my suspicions about Guybrush. I mean, what robot turns down an offer of searing silicone - um, I mean, what human turns down - ah, that is - ERROR! ERROR! CRITICAL ERROR! PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT!

Kind of surprising that nobody has gone for the dead parrot sketch (beautiful plumage!) but maybe it's too obvious.

So here it is.
And let's not forget the Cheese Shop sketch
and, allied to that, Alexei Sayle's tribute

I also love "Hell's Grannies"

"Life of Brian" crucifixion scene

Yep, all great material posted so far, with my all-time favourite probably being the Argument sketch. The Spanish Inquisition, the Lumberjack Song and the Dead Parrot were so popular when they first came out that people could and would quote chunks of them from memory - by which time, of course, they start to lose some of their impact. That's why I particularly like this sketch, which hasn't received much attention afaik :-

EDIT: Thanks, TH: the famous Dead Parrot sketch - and thanks for reminding me of the Cheese Shop one , which is another real favourite of mine .

A song we all need right now lol

Brilliant. "The room is full ... of milk men.. some of whom... are ... very old."
Leads into this, then, doesn't it?

"The funniest joke in the world"

My favourite part of the funniest joke may be the chanting of laments by the police to protect Scotland yard's crack inspector as he retrieves the joke 😄

^ I think 'Bicycle Repairman' was the first Monty Python skit I ever saw on TV way back in the early 70's. Needless to say, I became a fan from that episode.

Here's a short skit from the early 70's...

Here's a short sketch I've always liked, with ideas as ridiculous as usual from the M Python team:-

...and while posting this, may I respectfully ask why this thread isn't where I looked for it first - in the TV/movies section?

^ Yes, one of many really good details - as is the commentator's verdict:

"He must've let himself down a bit on the hobbies. Golf's not very popular around here."
