Every day I try to think of an advert from Saturday morning cartoons when I was a child and then try to track it down on YouTube and recite the entire advert along with the clip. I love Germaine Greer

well that was thought-provoking. I think she makes some good points (or there are good points buried underneath what she's saying, like how viewing a penis as a weapon is not a healthy attitude or how it should not be the aim of women to strive for the exact life of men with all its downsides) and I appreciate her directness, but ultimately her charisma veils some fallacies; in the discussion about rape she argues too much from personal experience, and when talking about trans people she considers it an axiom a priori that trans women are not women and pretends to objectively argue from there without accounting for her bias (which is something common in gender debates, I think) and uses 'there are worse problems' as an unmotivated copout, or how she assumes 'equality' means something more specific and argues from there

I really like 'it isn't a rational response to anything, depression' a lot.

Yeah. After my gf got raped at 15, she couldn't handle anyone's touch on her skin for over a year. She had trouble hugging her grandma. So "it was just a fuck, how could it do all that to you" just doesn't cut it.

I think you could hazard a guess that minimizing her rape is GG's way of coping with it and diminishing its effect on her.
