this is a Wayne Shorter RIP thread and recommended listening guide for some who might find it useful
recommended starting point
JuJu -1965
the band includes Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner from Coltrane's classic quarter and Reggie Workman who also played on several Coltrane records
Second Up
Heavy Weather
This record has pretty much universal appeal
Third Up
The Freedom Rider
Shorter was big with the Jazz Messengers - this is a cool fun hip record
Fourth Up
In a Silent Way - Miles Davis
if you haven't listened to much of his work with miles this should inspire deeper investigation
Lastly
great bandleader work which includes Herbie Hancock
well i'm only going with five
