So I'm making this thread to put all the diss records in one place the past few weeks have been great for hip hop in general.
So, it starts with First Person Shooter.
J Cole mentions that himself, Drake and Kendrick are the big three of rap at the moment on this track.
So 4 months later Kendrick has a feature where he mentions there isn't a big 3 just big me. He also disses Cole a bit more AND drake. He mentions the names of J Cole tracks and Drake's album in this song.
J Cole is the first to respond but he releases a whole mistake that is vaguely aimed at Kendrick called Might Delete This Later. The track that is directly aimed at Kendrick though is called 7 minute drill.
A week or so after he released it. He ended up pulling it off of streaming services. He felt like it didn't sit right in his spirit so that's why he deleted it. He showed props to Kendrick at a concert.
J Cole woke up smiling today gents lol
Drake responds to Kendrick with two tracks. The first one is pushups then the second one is called Taylor Made which he uses AI to make it seem like Tupac and Snoop is rapping on the track with him.
The Tupac estate ends up suing Drake over this track.
Rick Ross jumps in because he doesn't like Drake with this track.
Kanye decides to hop in while everyone is waiting for Kendrick to respond to Drake.
Oops I missed the beginning of this feud. Quavo started it by coming for Chris Brown with this track.
Then Chris responded and his response was so good. Quavo lost this one imo.
Idk why Chris Brown decided to release a diss track. I have to do more research but he doesn't like Quavo from Migos for a long time. He claims to have slept with Quavos girl(Saweetie) while they were together. He makes a sweet tea reference in the song.
He also mentions that everyone wishes it was Quavo that died instead of Takeoff.
Quavo responded pretty quickly like next day I feel or two days after.
Most have heard Kendricks response to Drake. There is a reference to YNW Melly. The importance of that line is that Melly killed two of his friends. So he's saying if you wanna take his friendly competition he will "kill" his two "friends"(Drake and Cole).
616 dropped today and I haven't listened to it in great detail yet but will come back and edit this post.
6/16 is:
Tupac's birthday,
Canadian Father's Day, (lol)
OJ Simpson's trial start date,
Date of Kendrick's 2011 show in Toronto (iykyk)
The maybach glove has my heart racing.
Is this the thread to once again have the tired discussion of "Takeover" vs. "Ether"? ;)

Lol we can discuss all beefs in this thread if you want but it was mostly for the newer ones.
Classic Beef Documentary.
I was looking for the other one but found this one instead.
Can't tell me this isn't still relevant

I followed modern rap very closely up until about 2015, where just the busy-ness of my life took over. Never even heard of this one. Great diss track. Picture of Drake for the track is immaculate. Love Pusha, but every time I hear his solo stuff, I won't lie, makes me wanna listen to Clipse (last of his solo records I heard was Daytona, which was great, I assumed it was named after the Ghostface track) - which isn't to say his solo stuff isn't good.

You know, as a Chiefs fan, I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift's boyfriend too.
Kendrick just dropped another tune.
Apparently he's calling Drake a paedo on it. The online nation seems to think it's hypocritical because he threatened to remove his own music off Spotify if they removed R Kelly's. Not sure about that one. You can think someone is a piece of shit and still defend the music?
I don't know why this has started now and why Kendrick keeps booting him in his head before Drake can even try to get up but it's quite entertaining and I'll check it later.
I hope there is a real dislike of each other and it's not all publicity.
Quote from: degrassi.knoll on May 04, 2024, 05:33 AM
Okay I can admit that Drake response was dope.
I'm a Drake hater in general but I can objectively say that was good and way better than Pushups.
Quote from: jimmy jazz on May 04, 2024, 09:32 AMI hope there is a real dislike of each other and it's not all publicity.
I hope it's a dislike of each other but just like competition and nothing serious. I don't think this is just publicity.
I guess Drake has an 11 year old daughter he has been hiding. This is moving so fast now.
Not me up at 4:30am trying to catch up
@Jwb linking me all "this is staged like the Will Smith slap" :coldsweat:
I was thinking about it this morning and even if it is staged the fans are still winning. This could just be publicity and I wouldn't care. This lyrical content is so good.
Also Drake posted on IG that if anyone could bring his hidden daughter to him please. So maybe Kung Fu Kenny got bad information and maybe she doesn't exist but that doesn't invalidate the rest of the track.
I would just prefer it if there was some real spice. Obviously don't want anyone to get physically hurt. But I want spice.
Drake's voice and delivery really annoy me. He makes himself sound like he's drunk and drooling and adds auto tune on top. It's really annoying. Flow is basic as fuck as well.
Edit - OK the tune switched up. The rest of it is better. Point still stands for the stuff I've heard up until now though.
Meet the Grahams is sinister as fuck
Kendrick is staring at Aubrey from across the street and then disappearing when a bus drives by

Look, what's going to be talked about in the mainstream is the hidden daughter. But listen to everything that came before.
This is beyond a rap beef. This is an indictment. I don't feel like I'm overreacting - that 95% is under-reacting.

Welp, guess we need to bust this track out for the second time this year.
I'll catch up on this Kendrick/Drake beef in a bit.
What order should I listen to the tracks? I haven't kept up with it.
Imo:
Euphoria
6:16 in LA
Family Matters
meet the grahams
You don't need the preceding Drake tracks tbh, but you can certainly rabbit hole this shit from Rick Ross involvement to Common to Chris Brown the further you dig.

Idk I haven't heard anything from Common.
K Dot dropped another one.
I think he caught a stray somewhere along the way.
Dropping that west coast c-walking ass bop 12 hours after meet the grahams is diabolical
Okay, in my process of catching up on this beef - as I haven't been in tune on all the details, I found this video useful if there's anyone else who wants to listen to the latest tracks, but wants the context before doing so:
Don't speak on the family, crodie :-X
Now Drake is claiming he's a mastermind that fed him false information.
Also his defense that he's too famous to be a pdf file is so weak. MJ is way more famous than him and he got hit with pdf file accusations and even had a trial.
If you wanted to hear Ant break it down but it's 50 minutes. He does bring up some good points.
Elvis was a paedo as well wasn't he?
I'm getting the feeling none of you like Drake btw.

I wouldn't say I dislike him I just don't care. His music and personality as an artist aren't very interesting to me.

No I didn't like Drake even before this beef started. Every time his music would pop up on a playlist I would yell out "Draaaaake" like Soulja Boi did in that one interview.
Also another thing from a music aspect is there even such a thing as a B sharp? Drake mentions it to attempt to be clever but I don't think it exists on the scale.

You're right about Elvis, but plenty of rock stars were as well - some of the most revered ones too. They'd take advantage of young teenage girl groupies. Difference is I suppose, at the height of their popularities, we didn't have internet and social media where we could share information about this stuff in real time. They were much less accountable than music stars/celebrities are these days. People like:
- David Bowie
- Bob Weir
- Chuck Berry
- Steven Tyler
- Jimmy Page
- Mick Jagger
- Jerry Lee Lewis (who married his 13 year old cousin in his 20s, and at the time of their honeymoon, she still believed in Santa Claus
- Iggy Pop
- Marvin Gaye
- Don Henley
And those are just
some examples, not an exhaustive list. More info can be found about each one here (https://allthatsinteresting.com/rock-stars-sexual-misconduct). It's difficult to square the circle in our heads that some of our favorite albums and songs were written by pedophiles. There were no 'Kendricks' back in the 70s calling this stuff out - in fact, it was more or less an open secret. Regardless, don't expect the Rolling Stone to add a footnote about it on their next 'Top 500 Albums' list under the Zeppelin entries.
Quote from: jimmy jazz on May 06, 2024, 02:12 PMI'm getting the feeling none of you like Drake btw.
I like some Drake tracks. My favorite happens to be a Sonny Fodera remix of a Drake track which removes most of Drake's vocal contributions.
I also have a soft spot for his
Nothing Was the Same album, which might have something to do with nostalgia - it was really popular when I was in college.
So yeah, some of his music I dig, but him as a person? Nah. He's always come off as somewhat of a fake, a poser. And the pedophile accusations and his relationships with underaged Millie Bobby Brown and Kylie Jenner just make him worse.

Good info, I hope it's true that Mattix's story is incorrect (because I love a lot of Bowie's music). Important to know that there are inconsistencies with the story.
Maybe a hot take but I personally don't think it makes too much sense to consider it an immoral thing to listen to music made by artists who did terrible things if the artist in question is dead. Listening to Bowie now makes no financial contributions to him on account of being dead, so I don't see how the usual "separate the art from the artist" arguments even really apply.
Of course I understand if it's one's own personal limit.
Can't listen to Bowie without remembering he's a creep.
Always hated Drake because he's always been a creep.
Fuck the creeps and fuck contributing to their estates, alive or dead.

The inconsistency is only that there's no proof outside of her claims ("there appear to be neither photos of them together nor any contemporaneous materials corroborating a sexual encounter between them" and "Bowie was bi").
And Drake's too famous to be a pervert, right?

The other inconsistency was the stated timelines I guess, vis-a-vis her relations with Jimmy Page.
You could very well chalk this up to these guys drugging and boozing her up (which we know they did), leaving her memories of it all, specifically when things happened (what happened first/what happened after), a little bit muddy. Plus, if we do have all this evidence for other rock stars she slept with (Page/Iggy/etc), and she's even justified/rationalized some of these experiences as being okay (which she has done before), why would she lie specifically about Bowie?
I don't know for certain if the Lori Mattix/David Bowie story is true or not, but based on other stories (https://metro.co.uk/2019/02/09/david-bowie-sex-two-teenagers-age-consent-8486252/#:~:text=Speaking%20to%20the%20Daily%20Mail,liked%20young%20girls%20in%20particular.), it doesn't seem like some wild aberration from his behavior at the time.
Drake's security guard is shot outside his Toronto mansion amid ongoing Kendrick Lamar feud: Rapper says he will cooperate with investigation (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13391543/Drake-shooting-toronto-dead.html)
So to the average listener people think the shooting is related to Kendrick but plot twist it is actually related to The Weeknd. The Weeknd's manager had a similar shooting occur outside of his home back in April and now this happens.
I saw 'outside his home', looked at the map and it's actually about a mile down the road. Media trying to spice it up with that headline.
Also considering Drake's property is/was $100m I didn't think it was all that tbh. He's got more money than style. Wouldn't catch me living in a dump like that.
i wouldn't be surprised if it were staged tbh. Apparently Kendrick was asked to issue a public apology because companies associated with Drake are losing mad money. Dot agreed not to drop Monday as was planned, but is "not budging" in terms of making public statements.
Also Drake had a Nike drop or something that happened 🤔. So it does seem a bit staged.
Yep I heard the same thing. They were one of the companies soliciting an apology. Big if true.
You think the man ruined his career?

I don't think his career is fully ruined but he's definitely losing money.

Suki there were shots thrown at her during this song.
So she responded and also took shots at Lil Uzi
Man caught trying to break in (https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/may/09/man-arrested-for-attempted-break-in-at-drakes-toronto-mansion)
So a guy tried to break into Drake's place and I love Canadians response. They sent him to get mental help, here in the states he would have been shot at or just locked away in jail.

I'm used to listening to Schultz's bad wild takes, especially on his podcast with Charlemagne tha God called Brilliant Idiots. He will have an opinion on stuff that he only knows a little about and have such strong convictions about it. Same way on Flagrant but it's meant to be the polar opposite of what people are thinking and to just say wild shit for laughs.
Drake told Metro to shut up and make some drums and he came up with this best. Probably the first ever beat diss 😆
I also got an ad on FB with someone selling BBL Drizzy socks.

I like Schultz. I really loved him before he blew up for his ability to work crowds. But the more I see of his podcast, honestly, the more I dislike him. He seems a little bit full of himself. Which isn't to say he isn't funny, but he just seems to be going down the path (like Tom Segura) where he lets the success and money go to his head. I hope I'm wrong and he ends up being more of a Bill Burr than a Tom Segura.
Speaking of crowd work, you ever watch any David Lucas? He is just as adept at crowd work (maybe even better) as Schultz was.

Sure but like, so has Dane Cook lol
I used to like him but his comedy isn't strong enough to cancel out his arrogant Waluigi looking ass
I like David Lucas, especially his fishing pod lol. First came across him on KT, but he's much better not focused on making gay jokes toward Tony.
Also BBL Drizzy has not left my head for a week lmao, my internal monologue is all "bbl drizzy... bblllllll drizzzay" and "wop wop wop wop wop, dot fuck em up"
Rumors of an impending video drop have been building all week, will Kung Fu Kenny bless us with another hype weekend?
So context for BBL Drizzy. It's actually a contest with a cash prize and Metro is giving out two beats. One to the winner and runner up.
