i hear ya

now my car is around 25 years old

here's where i get sensitive

when some rich yuppie cunt who has gone through five automobiles during that time starts up with this we need to transition shit

i've kept my car running and i'm not spending $40 K now

i mean people actually think they're more environmentally inclined when they've had multiple cars manufactured in their service while i've been doing my best with a good local mechanic

and when i feel like i'm getting judged and shit that hits me really fucking wrong especially when it's from someone who can afford whatever the fuck it is they're driving

Well, we drove an old car from the 90s that we'd gotten from my parents. They'd tried selling it, but nobody wanted it. When the exhaust started falling out, we scrapped it.

The electric is the only car we ever bought. When we needed a car nr. 2, we bought bikes instead.

So we're doing some things at least to keep our carbon footprint down.

However, to really make an impact, it'd be more useful to invent a greener asphalt or concrete or just regulate pollution from businesses (my previous job, actually).

No worries, my friend 😊 I generally enjoy our discussions and your unique perspective on things even when we don't agree.

I don't have an iPhone - but I believe so - but you might need to install Firefox or Chrome from the app store. I'm not sure if extensions are available on Safari (the standard iPhone browser)

I wonder how it happened? People have been sure of this for years and years so there must be a sustainable population of them which I think is exciting. Obviously I wouldn't want to see one but there's little chance of that where I am.

Only God knows.

Thoughts?

if desantis appointed me to a panel on what needs to be done to rectify the injustices done to southern white trash i'd say the same fucking thing "let's start with making me a millionaire and then take it from there"

if i were black i'd support the fuck out of reparations but since i'm white and sure as fuck don't want to PAY reparations i'm against it

frankly i'm starting to feel the same way about ukraine

they're saying california should pay $500 B to blacks - well, at least they're people we actually owe something to - from what i've read we've spent $120 to $250 B on ukraine and i mean who the fuck are they

Quote from: Psy-Fi on May 13, 2023, 02:39 PMNever going to happen. It's empty political virtue signalling at its most ridiculous and shameless.

Honestly, it's kind of offensive (or at least disappointing) to me that we lie to black people like this. Why can't we just tell them the truth instead of acting like this is a serious consideration? It's never going to happen - it's just too far. And the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, knows it's too far - and given that he seems to have national ambitions (running for president), giving out cash payment reparations for slavery would completely ruin his chances - but instead of just saying the quiet part out loud, he strings black people along like he really is considering it.

Black people: Because slavery was horrible and unjust, we should be compensated for our ancestors' suffering

White people: Oh yes, that makes complete sense! Let's set up a committee task force to see just how much money it would be

Black people: Okay, we'll get right on that!

White people: Sounds great, let us know what you find!

Black people (months later): Okay, it would appear that the fair numbers would equate to 1.2 million dollars per person affected, which would amount in total to around 800 billlion dollars

White people: Oh interesting! Great work! But it would seem to us that slavery's legacy is about more than cash payments. Cash payments really wouldn't suffice to rectify it. That said, if you wanted, we could set up another committee task force to review the findings of this committee task force.

California governor Gavin Newsom does NOT endorse $1.2 million reparations checks, claiming slavery's legacy is about 'more than cash payments' - instead pledging 'systemic changes' like equity in housing, education and healthcare
