So would it not appear to you then that you, as a white person in what you tell us is a predominantly black neighbourhood, and seen as a symbol of the gentrification of the area, would be then fair game to be stabbed to death or shot by the residents?

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about the governor and legislators to register with the state

Does that include out of state residents? How would they enforce it, by invading Illinois?

it's florida specific fascism

here's a quote from the editorial board of the nytimes

QuoteThe bill's real impact, however, would go well beyond curbing what publishers could print without fear of damages. As the board writes, "The bill represents a dangerous threat to free expression in the United States, not only for the news media, but for all Americans, whatever their political beliefs."

Anyone who posts a critical comment about a public figure on social media, or criticizes an official at a school board meeting, could be subject to an immediate lawsuit and would not have the special protection that the Supreme Court has given to this kind of speech. Any person accused of bigotry based on sexual orientation or gender identity would be able to file a defamation lawsuit and have a virtual guarantee of winning by saying the discrimination was based on personal religious or scientific beliefs.

to those who think the first amendment will make this impossible you might not understand how far right the supreme court is now

it doesn't matter what the first amendment says - it only matters what the supreme court decides it means and they are not accountable to anyone-

don't even try to tell me this couldn't happen

it's real and it's scary af

it's time to wake up this is not a drill

So this, then, is the first step in controlling and muzzling the media. And what comes after that...?

it's what they do - they weaponize poverty - they want to be able to target individuals, sue them - wreck their lives and trap them in the penal system poverty cycle that i keep posting about

people will ignore crimes against lgbt if speaking up means financial ruin - they sue you then start garnishing your pay - they might as well put a gun to your head - your life is destroyed

and who's going to enforce this oh our sweet lovable police that everyone is so scared to get rid of

i hate to go here because of the pushback i'll probably get but seriously americans leftists it's time to buy guns

The prison industry is big business.  And what makes it worse is that because so many modern institutions are ridiculously predatory, it is very difficult to escape the poverty cycle even if you never go to prison. The only people who have a shot at success generally tend to come from two-parents households that are moderately stable to begin with.

You'd be better off arming the people who got here as non-citizens if you wanted to make something happen though - they've got plenty of good reasons to get armed and they're far less complacent than the performative liberals. Government doesn't do anything for them and they are exploited as labor, and best of all they aren't indoctrinated by 'Murica.

A shocking read.

Main points:

- Matt Hancock, former UK Health Secretary in the government, had 100,000 WhatsApp messages leaked

- In them, he suggests the public are frightened in to falling into line with their behaviour during the pandemic

- Asks "when do we deploy the new variant?"

Only God knows.

what's shocking is that people kept spreading the virus when all they had to do was stay home

was it really that hard to chill in your crib?

unless he was deploying biological agents i'm pretty sure he was talking about parsing information

but dishonesty starting with fauci's asinine "stop buying masks" instead of honestly saying that the medical community needed first dibs he told the ridiculous lie that a physical barrier isn't a physical barrier basically- in full contradiction to the efficacy of universal precautions

people hate the truth

there was backlash against saying gay men were getting monkeypox by some gays themselves

Any thoughts on the new Jan. 6th footage that came out?

CPAC Speaker Michael Knowles: 'Transgenderism Must Be Eradicated'

https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/09/us/transgender-people-bills-oklahoma-tennessee-reaj

More states are proposing bills targeting LGBT rights. 'It's only getting worse,' advocate says

one thing i was wrong about earlier is that florida is uniquely aggressive with lgbtq targeting

unfortunately it's prevalent in multiple states

I remember my late mother saying once that she didn't want a Ouija board in the house--I guess this is why.

Ask her if she still feels that way.
