Quote from: jimmy jazz on Mar 09, 2024, 11:36 PMApparently pretty much every European country appreciates it when you try to speak their language when you're there, even if it's a few words. They appreciate the effort.

Except for the French. Who apparently just get annoyed and impatient.

I like a lot of things about France but my experience with the French is limited to just a French uncle.

@Dianne W thoughts?

The World is much the same when it comes to conversing...My thoughts after living here 10 years are that you just follow the 1st steps..You pass someone and it is normal to say Bonjour..you attend the Doctors surgery waiting room you enter and say Bonjour...pretty much everywhere you are greeted. Making friends is for me difficult as I am quite a fiery moody Gal...Can talk the birds out of the Trees sometimes but then I can be very shy and quiet as well...French neighbours we have only a few but get along regardless of age or gender...they like to kiss you on both cheeks and a third one is watch out..haha
I can't say I like the British so much though....I like the fact that you don't have to know what others are really saying so much, whilst people with the same tongue you can judge far to easily...and get things wrong still.
I speak mainly as I feel tbh and once you show me your true colours, I can then decide whether I want to speak with you or not. Like most people we are all different, so don't expect everyone to take to you either....
Languages I can speak a little French and Spang lish.. but not really good enough in truth... I now wish I had done as my late Father had done and went to evening college and learnt French as he wanted to Holiday in France, he likes to converse with people so was important for him... when I was young and able to take stuff in better than I do now..I have Dyslexia not so seriously as say one of my Grand Children who was tormented for her disability..My Sisters 3 children, which I had no idea for years and years have this also..they have all got really good careers so it does not have to be so bad really you just have to go the extra mile...
I Love where I live but it took me time...

I Trust News..always.. The Word NEWS to me is facts...whether it's gossip or lies it's news so must be real and I still love our Government especially the MP's...

You cannot question a genuine Photo call can u?

News interest to me is about what I am interested in rather than all the worlds problems which will not change now as everything is broadcasted....I get shocked when My Husband want to talk over the next likely war and such like. France's History is filled with conflicts and most have stemmed from Religion and greed of course goes hand in hand.....
My good news is that I have had contact with a new French relative and she only lives 40 minutes form here...She has given me her a copy of part of her family Tree and ok some dates are not the same as from  my Tree but that is a very normal thing to happen as documents are also sometimes way out...like husbands birth is 30.7.1945 he won't like being 5 years older as on her Tree...

whoops sorry about the shoe in a rather awkward area...let me try again...

I can see this is not going to well now...that was in the 70's when he had a great head of hair...lol

'Psychic' conman jailed for swindling 1.3m Americans

QuoteOver two decades Patrice Runner, 57, amassed a fortune by promising wealth and happiness to his targets if they sent him money through the mail.

The scheme pulled in more than $175m (C$242m; £141m) from 1.3 million American victims.

So psychics taking money to make 'forecasts' is only a crime when there's enough money involved to arouse the ire of government authorities, huh? I bet the real issue was he didn't pay his fair share of taxes to the government on this income.

I was thinking the same thing.

Uncle Sam probably didn't get his cut of that profitable pie.

^ Yeah, a friend sent me that story. What was going through that woman's head - or rather, failing to go through that woman's head?!

What you desire is of lesser value than what you have found.

That's another level of crazy.

And I'd like to know how she was going to get the corpse to sign the loan?

Wouldn't it have stunk? And how long does it take rigor mortis to set in?

Tbf to the deceased he looks no worse than Prince Phillip in the last couple of years of his life when he was being wheeled out by the Royals.

Only God knows.
