Quote from: jimmy jazz on Mar 26, 2024, 09:12 PMThat's what they've said but it looks nothing like the 66 jacket. It's obviously based on the pride flags.

It looks absolutely nothing like a pride flag.

This is what you want. This is what you get.

Course not. Looks more like that than the jacket in the article. You'd never admit it anyway though.

Only God knows.

I'm not seeing it either. The bi flag is top-down magenta, purple, blue. The symbol on the jersey is dark blue, lighter blue, purple.

The colours are reversed on the other half of the cross and magenta is a shade of purple. Anyway I didn't say it was exactly the same I said it looks like it and it certainly does. And it definitely looks more like it than the explanation given by Nike. There was no purple on the training kit.

Also, Nike have changed the flag before for other reasons in the past also.

QuoteThe design for sports brand Umbro depicts the St. George's cross in four colours and is intended to represent the country's diverse cultural makeup.

(Nike owned Umbro during this time period.)

Only God knows.

Exactly!

@jimmy jazz I'd happily admit it if it actually looked like the bi flag, but it doesn't. A couple bands of color next to each other doesn't mean they are automatically supposed to be a pride flag.

That's not really the same thing. It can look like it without being one. Obviously it isn't a pride flag. It's a St George's cross in very similar colours. It absolutely looks similar.

Only God knows.

I guess I'm just not getting what the problem is. It's three stripes of color, lots of non-pride flags use those too; unless those specific colors have been assigned a meaning by a community under the pride umbrella, then saying it's a pride flag just feels too nebulous to be much more than a personal theory.

Like, speaking as an LGBTQIA+ person myself, if this is meant to be a pro-pride political statement, they could make the statement a bit clearer lol.

That's fair enough if you don't see an issue. I don't think it's a big issue. But to say it looks 'nothing like it'...?

And as I posted above Nike have changed the colours of the cross in the past for reasons not related to design so it's not as if they wouldn't do it.

Only God knows.

I would say it looks about as much like a pride flag as the German flag does.

Yeah cos black and yellow are similar colours to blue and light blue.

Only God knows.

I guess I didn't word that first part super clearly, my bad. But I'm not talking about whether putting a pride flag on a jersey is a problem or not, I'm saying if they actually wanted to promote a pro-pride message, why wouldn't they use an actual pride flag and not just something that vaguely looks like it could be one?

I agree that the colours don't match the bi flag and tbh it also wouldn't make sense. If they were going for any kind of pride message, the bi flag would be a really random choice. Why wouldn't they do the rainbow flag then?

Quote from: jimmy jazz on Mar 26, 2024, 10:13 PMYeah cos black and yellow are similar colours to blue and light blue.

No, because black, red, and yellow are all on the Philadelphia pride flag and the progress pride flag.

I did not say this.

Not sure other flags would be allowed on international shirts by FIFA. It's supposed to be a St George's cross.

Anyway you've a said vaguely looks like it, so can we at least agree the colours are similar? Not exactly the same, but similar.

Only God knows.

I think it looks exactly like the Estonian flag. Well, similar at least.
