Creature with the Atom Brain (1955)

This one is a bit like 'Frankenstein' with a zombie/robot twist. A wealthy criminal obsessed with revenge, meets an unscrupulous scientist and funds his experiments which produce the ability to reanimate recently deceased people, give them superhuman strength, and manipulate them electronically via remote control.

I liked Dune part 2 😊 the visuals were perfect, the sound design was an experience. I'm not quite sure I wanna watch it again because I feel it might drag a bit in the small screen, but I was entertained throughout watching it in the cinema.

It's a for me!

Cons: Chani and Paul seem like such a boring couple. Especially Paul and his humourless demeanor.

Yeah I think it's 4 stars too from me but I hate that I dozed off on the best fight between Paul and the younger bald guy that I don't remember his name.

I would watch it again but I want to watch them back to back and wait til they sell them together as a pair.

Gun Girls (1957)

Low-budget crime flick about girls gone bad. Bad directing, bad acting, ridiculous script, unintentionally campy. This is the type of movie that probably inspired John Waters to become a film maker (which is a good thing.)

Highway Hell (1941)

Low-budget exploitation flick about prostitution. A young pimp puts his girls to work by dropping them off on the side of roads and having them hitch rides with passing men to seduce them. He befriends the impressionable teenage son of a motel owner, to try to convince him to take over the motel so that he can use it as a base to operate his prostitution business out of. Awful script, awful acting, awful directing, and awful editing, makes for an awful movie. In the right hands, this story could've been wildly entertaining, but alas, it was not to be.

Sounds very much like an exploitation movie considering the theme.. so bad acting and screenplay etc. is a given, but then they also make it boring? Sheesh.

I got it around 25 years ago when she was still alive and signing autographs. I was collecting movie posters and autographed photos and attending pop-culture/TV/film collectibles shows and she was at one of them. I also have others of actors and actresses from various TV shows and movies that I got in-person at those shows.

28 Days Later

I watched this on Saturday night for the first time and I really enjoyed it. The beginning of it hasn't really aged well but the film itself once it got in to it was really good and it had an extremely young Cillian Murphy in it so I was happy 😊.

Watched The Lion In Winter (1968). Despite starring Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn and Anthony Hopkins, it doesn't seem to be particularly well known. Very cool historical drama with tons of devious plotting. The acting can get a bit hammy and some scenes are somewhat awkward but overall very well done and super entertaining due to all the constant intrigue.

We saw The Lobster from 2016, or.. I did while she slept on the couch.



It's been on my to-do-list for years and since I want to watch Lanthimos' latest movie Poor Things, I thought we could warm up by getting this one done.

In an alternative future or perhaps present, being single is not allowed. Single peeps are given a chance to find a partner during a forced stay at a resort. If they can't do it, they get turned I to an animal, possibly of their choice. That's the backdrop.. The Movie itself feels like a surreal, light comedy about severely autistic people living non-sensical lives filled with pointless misery. Sometimes they seem like victims of this weird society. Other times, they seem to do it to themselves.

I couldn't quite make sense of it, but also didn't try too hard and rather just enjoyed the dark comedy. Maybe it was all some clever allegory? For once I didn't hate Colin Farrell. Come to think of it, he was okay in Banshees as well.

That sounds like an interesting premise! Sounds like something for us to watch as a couple, I'll have to add it to the "good movies to watch" list (which, as you might guess, is indeed much shorter than the "bad movies to watch" list, haha).

It's an interesting and absurd premise, but there's a deeper level of weird in how all these characters seem to have personalities that are paper thin.. and kinda autistic? That's what it reminded me of.

It's definitely not a movie for everyone, but if you're a little more patient type, like weird movies and enjoy dark comedy that is more aimed at extracting a rare chuckle rather than big laughs, then this could be for you 🙂

I do really like fiction that portrays a version of our society that is familiar but also kind of off to the audience. Or has some big difference from real life that is very obviously weird or fucked up yet the characters treat it as just business as usual. I'm feeling a bit queasy in bed and I can't think of any examples right now though.
