Back to the Future.

Believe it or not I had never seen it.

It was cute.

Quote from: Mrs. Waffles on Sep 23, 2023, 12:45 PMI've never seen that one but I'm not a big Baz Luhrmann fan on the whole. I think in a lot of ways his films seem like they'd be up my alley, but his style just goes overboard and tips the scale in favor of unbearable cheese to me.

I love all the whimsy and cheese that Baz provides. I haven't watched that Elvis movie yet though.

I was this cool the whole time.

We saw this tonight:

I liked it! Very funny and clever and well casted.

Gosling was good. Ferrel was funny. It was fun to see America Ferrera again as I haven't seen her since Ugly Betty. And Rhea Perlman I haven't seen in ages. Margot Robbie looks great as always, does a funny and effective role and really dialled up the acting in the dramatic scenes.

The plot was silly, but I appreciated the social commentary and the laughs along the way.

Considering the source material, I'm actually impressed with what they did with it.

Funny you mentioned that movie. I'm re-watching it tonight with a group of others in discord.

I was this cool the whole time.

Is it on streaming now? We've been itching to rewatch it as well, might have to suggest that for movie night tonight.

Yeah it's on Prime but like you have to buy it. 30 bucks for digital and 24 bucks for 48 hour rental.

Oof, one of those, gotcha. I don't know why anyone would choose the rental option, that price difference is so interesting.

Anyway, turns out the mister already had plans anyway, we watched Gladiator, which is one of his favorite movies that I had never seen. Tonight I spent a couple hours ironing and folding clothes in the living room, and he put it on as the evening's entertainment while I was doing that.

It was pretty good! Not really my usual kind of movie, but it was engaging all the way through, which is a feat for a 2 and a half hour long movie. I can see why it's one of his favorites, that was definitely the Mr. Wafflesest movie I'd seen in a while.

Ridley Scott is making Gladiator 2 these days, set for release late 2024. Russell Crowe is not attached to it for natural reasons.

Wildy accurate and a great movie! Even had Dave Portnoy clips in it about when Robinhood halted buys;
I remember watching that interview too, this movie hit a bunch of emotional spots too;
Worth the watch and slightly educational because it brings options trading into the average person's perspective;
Overall 5/5 rating!

Saw this a little while ago, Cure from 1999:

It's a neat Japanese crime mystery / thriller. A seemingly stoic detective tries to solve a string of similar murders committed by various unrelated people and seemingly without motive.

It's a quiet, stylish movie with occasional bursts of emotion or hyper violence, though the latter is relatively sparse (but used to good effect).

The movie is well regarded and considered influential and important in ushering in a new age of Japanese / Asian thriller/horror, which is how it ended up on my radar.

I thought the plot was a little unrealistic, but well told and with good performances. I enjoyed it.

:3.5stars:

Also the guy who plays the protagonist is a bit like Japanese Brian Ferry, which is a compliment.

I love this movie.
As for the plot being unrealistic: I got the feeling that the movie continuously hinted at the explanations being presented not being reliable and something deeper going on which made this film extra eerie and cool.

.

Caught a few of the newly released horror movies, the next one I would like to see is the new Exocist.

The Nun II

I loved this so much more than the original. They honestly did a better job than the first one. I went into this movie thinking it was a prequel but no they went the sequel route they use a clip during the credits to showcase what timeline this took place in the overall franchise timeline. If you liked the version one you will love with one. The only reason I would give this four stars is because I would prefer another installment of The conjuring series to make up for the last one they put out because woof that one was awful.

Saw X

Who knew we would be on the 10th installment of the Saw franchise! I have fond memories of going to see the newest Saw movie on a yearly basis. It was my Halloween tradition. Halloween night I would head to the movie theater to check out the latest Saw movie. This movie is a nice send off to the character Jigsaw. If they never did another movie after this it would be a nice cap to his character and the storyline that it produced. The original three movies are the best in the entire franchise but this one is right up there and it's getting critical acclaim.

Killers of the Flower Moon

I went into this movie completely blind after Guybrush mentioned it. I had no idea I was going into a 4 hour movie(actual run time is 3 hours and 26 mins but with trailers and ads it was four hours)!!?!?!

I don't mind long films but after awhile it gets long in the tooth. The thing is that I enjoyed the plot and wanted to see what would happen but like after the two hours and a half mark, I kept looking at my cell phone to see what time it was. He could have trimmed some of the filler. I didn't Oppenheimer being long because it was steadily building up to a point and then it only had a little extra near the end. I honestly could have done with all the trial stuff but it wasn't so bad. The killings of The Flower Crown though, I could chop that movie up so much to reduce the run time. A lot of it was unnecessary.

It's an interesting movie/book but this film does come off as like Oscar bait. I'm sure it will be nominated for a couple of categories. Great ensemble cast. I feel like the stand out was Mollie(Lily Gladstone ), she better get a Best Actress nomination for this.

I was this cool the whole time.

just finished The Matrix, watching it a second time, I relate more to Neo now as I am older

I finally got to see Talk To Me 🙂

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I thought it would feel more like a big studio teen shocker thing. But it actually had more of a smart indie vibe.

The protagonist Mia has lost her mom and has since become very attached to her best friend's family. They start dabbling with this possession game which is getting to be a popular party game. It's obviously not a good idea.

The spooky angle works. The dramatic angle works and the stakes feel high. They're also convincing as teenagers, so that works. Performances are good and it's an engaging watch.

Spooky and fun 🎃
