Title: A thread for nothing
Post by: jimmy jazz on Apr 15, 2023, 09:47 PM
Also a spam thread, chat thread or anything you want to post but don't feel like it's threadworthy.

I'm posting this from the toilet.

Meh. A real drunk post is taking off your pants and putting them in a jiffy bag/envelope and posting them to Cambodia or something, and then wandering around the street asking if anyone has seen your pants?

I came real close to walking outside naked with 30mg of 5-Meo-DMT up my nose once. It was a close one.

What's the worst shit you've done when drunk then?

I've pissed myself numerous times (broke a couple of phones that were in my pocket), broke my hand, chatted a lot of rubbish. Pierced my ears. Vomited over someone in a bar.

@Toy Revolver @Jwb I reckon you two would have some decent posts for this.

Honestly I'm not too bad with alcohol. I have a few puke stories but I'm not too bad. The worst thing I've done drunk is stare at a sorta coworker's cleavage.

Puking is worse than that. Most men stare at a cleavage about 50 times a day (not me BTW. Not into boobs.)

I could tell I made her uncomfortable. This happened at the same wedding social as one of my puke stories. I was busy that night.

I puked all over a bathroom stall. But I cleaned it all up with toilet paper.

You're a good guy tbh I wouldn't clean a public bathroom if I had vomited in it.

Definitely vomited at a few parties. There was one where I drank lots of beer AND lots of red wine, which is such a bad combination. Still remember the disgusting taste in my mouth after puking it all out. Preferred white wine ever since

When I was 16 or so a friend convinced me that we bike god knows where in the middle of the night and I ended up falling over and breaking an arm.

i was a very self-destructive drinker and drank at volumes that would've killed most people

typical pattern in my late forties:

home from work at 4 drink 7-10 drinks topped off with a xany and maybe 4 bong hits - pass out - wake up at around midnight- grab my whiskey and weed and take a bath and read while again drinking and the others - my rule for work nights was to stop at three in the morning- often i'd be driving to work with a lortab or whatever i had kicking in

i usually pissed and shit myself while passed out

i was sick

i had some good times drinking and all that but on the whole asking me (no offense taken btw) about my alcoholic hijinx makes about as much sense as asking someone what kind of craziness did you get into during chemo

i suffered and fought hard for my sobriety

being an addict is miserable - it's not romantic or fun it's misery and despair

i'm only proud that i finally went to AA and said omg help me i'm sick i'm dying

i tried so hard to get mental health care

i went to private practices in person and said i need help - i thought about suicide everyday

sorry for being so unfun about it but it's like that for me

AA and NA is free and all over the place - if you're broke and desperate and addicted go there

Yeah it's a whole different thing, being drunk and being an alcoholic. I know Karen went close to the edge a few times: how she didn't get killed or raped I don't know. That kind of shit really fucks you up. Me, I never got drunk in my life except twice, and there was nothing special about it, though I never wanted to do it again. But I think people here can differentiate between the "OMG I'm so pissed I have to have that traffic cone" or whatever and "OMG I'm so pissed I think I'm gonna die." I doubt anyone is laughing at that, or saying that's cool. Like Waits said, "cut out that shit." Fair play to you for getting clean. Takes a lot of guts. If it hadn't been for MS Karen would either be dead now or in rehab.

one time i was driving and i was coming down off dxm and had been drinking(i would use booze to come down) and i accidently rear ended somebody while getting off the highway.  I was looking to see if anyone was coming from the street we were entering and there wasnt but the dude  in front of me just stopped anyway.  I slammed the brakes and barely tapped him.  I agreed to follow him into a nearby patking lot.

We looked at the cars and there was honestly no noticeable sign of any damage.  I told him that it was my fault so it was up to him what he wanted to do.  I was just sorta banking on him hopefully saying it was no big deal and letting it slide.

Instead,  he was like "Well, ya know I'm a retired deputy so I'd like to get the city out here just in case."

I agreed, and went back to my car, saying i was going to get my information.  I was parked behind him, with both cars facing away from the road.  The parking lot was connected to the parking lot of a gas station to our left, which also had 2 exits onto the road.

Since my car was behind his, and he was still standing by his car on the phone with the police,  he had never had an opportunity to get my tag or any other identifiable information. I turned on my car, waited to see if he noticed.  Then i very slowly turned my wheels all the way to the left and put it in drive. He was sorta looking in my direction and still on the phone but he didn't seem to notice or react.

So i hit the gas and peeled out through the gas station parking lot.  I felt like kinda a pos when some dad with his kids put his arm out to hold them back like he was scared i was gonna hit them as i sped by them,  but i was in fight or flight mode.  All i was thinking is i have to go so fast he can't get my plates.

Not to mention the road i had to use to escape is busy as fuck and usually packed with cars in that area and there is a busy intersection right there which my luck was at a red light,  which i felt i had to take the chance and run it, once i saw an opening.  Them i sped off and at one point sorta ran off the road in a panick and had to back up and get back on the road. It was a sharp left curve i tried to go around too fast and i ended up sliding into some grass, luckily with out hitting anything.

Even though i was pretty buzzed at the beginning of the story when the accident happened, after i fled like that the adrenaline was so intense it sobered me right up. I was paranoid af for a lil while that he either got my plates or that the gas station had cameras. But nothing ever came of it.

I've never been that far gone on alcohol, but when I was in my speedhead days I would make a lot of terrible late-night decisions like impulse purchases, overeating, and making absolute nonsense posts on Twitter and Reddit that I woke up and promptly deleted. I got a lot worse at socializing and would frequently interrupt others.

Thankfully I don't have any specific horror stories.

it was about 2012 or so. I know i was going to community College at the time and that i "didn't want to mess things up." Fucking retard logic lol.

I do have a few other notable stories that come to mind but i feel like I've told them before as well. The next worst one is probably the incident where i got myself fired from the Deli in Winn Dixie. Do you remember that one?

that was the first time i got kicked out of the homeless shelter.  For drinking.  That was a miserable night. Nothing special even happened i was just drugged out and felt like i could sense this malevolent force sort of closing in on me.

The second time i got kicked out i ended up getting myself jumped by a couple of kids that looked maybe 17 or 18 years old.

I mean thanks lol. The funny part is the first story i told isn't funny to me at all.  I was telling it more from the pov of how wreckless it was and how horribly things could have gone.  It was a pretty terrifying experience to me. I'm glad you found some humor in it though.  I guess it is kind of funny how stupid that slack jawed deputy was to not walk behind my car and get my plates right away.  But you never know if he was embellishing his past as well.

Honestly, speaking from a pov of what's the actual worst stuff.i did under the influence. I would have to include the 3 cars of mine i totalled over the years. 2 on dxm and one on booze.

None of them involved anyone else, thankfully. I did take out someones porch though. Somehow, through years of driving under the influence on basically a daily basis,  i have 0 duis. I really should not be allowed back on the road if this world had any justice in it, but here we are.

I will either find the deli story on mb to repost or I'll type it up here in a few.  That one was not so much wreckless as it was just humiliating.

So this one happened when i was 19. At this point in my life i was actually fairly straight edge. I had drank a handful of times and smoked pot a few times but nothing that could be considered a habit. So i really had no tolerance to alcohol.  I was a lightweight.

I worked at a deli in winn dixie, which is a shitty grocery store that exists in Florida and i think a few other southern states.  It's like the kmart of grocery stores down there. Dumpy looking,  bad customer service and still the prices are just as high.  And everyone steals. All the workers i mean.

So i had taken to stealing the occasional bottle of wine and sipping on it in the walk in fridge behind the deli.  The first couple if times i did this i didn't drink that much so i just got tipsy, not completely blasted.

Well, one day i came in to work and the other workers from the deli had all called out.  It was usually 2 or 3 of us that would close the deli,  and today it was going to be just me.  I resented my friends for calling out not only cause of the extra work but because now i was stuck alone with nobody to fuck with so it was looking like a miserable day.

I picked the big bottle of merlot (1.5 liter?) and brought it back to the walk in fridge to start my day.  One of my biggest mistakes as a rookie drinker was not eating anything before hand so i was basically drinking on an empty stomach.

At first it wasn't so bad,  but as i continued to drink i quickly went from just tipsy to actually drunk. I dropped a ham i was about to cut right in front of a customer, then picked it up and started washing it off lol. He angrily stormed off.

Then, one of the cashiers i knew asked me to get her something to drink.  I took a water off the shelf and tore the plastic label off and handed it to her.  I was like "Here, it's damaged." I thought that was badass lmao. Still gives me the fuckin douche chills.

Apparently one of the managers saw this encounter. Short little balding hispanic guy named Mario.  I had walked back to the deli and he met me up there and confronted me about stealing the water.  I told him i didn't steal it,  and he just looked at my hand which still had the fuckin label in it.  I just laughed at that point.

Mario told me to go home and come back on Monday to talk to the general manager about it.  After he walked away,  i went back to the walk in fridge, where about half of the bottle was still left.  That's about a full normal sized bottle of wine,  and i was already quite drunk.

I didn't want to pour it down the drain.  In my drunken logic that seemed like a waste. So i drank the rest of it. I basically chugged it. Then i hid the bottle in one of the trash bags.

Then i went back to the break room and i saw this girl Ashley that i had been interested in. I dunno if she ever liked me in reality or if she was just very flirtatious but she had a boyfriend who wasn't really in her league at all yet she had started coming over to me and showing interest. But I'm pretty sure it was only a casual interest if anything, and whatever interest there was i eventually scared off by basically becoming infatuated too quickly.

Like i was impressed by dumb shit like the fact that she was pretty and that she liked Mobb Deep. Which I'm still not even sure if she really did or if the broad just looked at my ipod once but yeah, that was the kinda superficial "connection" that was so significant to me at the time.

In any case i saw her in the break room and basically told her everything that had just happened.  That's the last thing i actually remember. Everything after that point is pieced together by what other people have told me.

So after i told her what was going on i think her and her boyfriend were trying to get me to go home and i stopped on the way out and apparently sat down against the wall of the deli.

I started screaming shit out such as "Fuck you Mario" and "I'm going to fucking kill you Mario." In retrospect j feel like some of this anger was misplaced lol.

I ended up puking up impressive volumes of red wine into a bucket in the deli,  and they had to call the cops and the emt.

Apparently i was not particularly cooperative with the first responders in the verbal sense,  though i seemingly never posed any physical threat.

According to witnesses i kept calling them cunts and i told the emt i was allergic to peanuts. The first part makes sense,  but the peanuts thing i couldn't even speculate why i would've thought that was funny.

Also when i was in the back by the dishes,  at some point,  that other cashier from before told me she liked me.  I apparently responded with "why are you telling me this now?" And indeed i didn't remember being told.  It was recounted back to me by the other girl Ashley the next day.

I didn't get arrested. A friend of mine named Joe got in contact with my dad, who sent his friend to pick me up.  Apparently after i got home i tried to piss on my dad's recliner, drunkenly thinking it was the toilet.  My dad being a recovering alcoholic,  obviously he was far from thrilled with the situation.

After i got fired i ended up moving to Rhode Island a few weeks later.  It was basically a sort of cataclysmic end to what i term the Winn Dixie era of my life.

Great story. When I worked at a carpet warehouse I'd be left one in the offices for long periods of time and there were always bottles of wine in there. I couldn't get served at this point cos I was about 15 but I remember every day being desperate to steal one. I never did though.

You're quite lucky you only slightly messed up and didn't do anything really bad.

@Jwb I tried it three times and fuck it, it can just stay as it is. I can't be bothered.

As an example of weird things that can happen even if you're completely stone cold sober, ie me: a few weeks ago I was sitting in my bedroom watching the telly. Nobody lives in the house only Karen and me, and as you all know she's confined to bed 24/7. We don't even have any cats any more. So why was it, I felt this incredibly powerful sense of someone on the landing? I mean, I could hear the floorboards creaking and I just knew, I KNEW, as my heart dropped into my shoes, that someone was reaching to try my door. It really put the wind up me. I imagined maybe burgulars, though anyone breaking in here would be more likely to leave a donation than take any of our meagre stuff.

Anyway, out I went to see what was going on, fully expecting, against all logic, that someone would be out there. Of course, there was nothing. I wrenched open all bedroom doors and the one to the bathroom, in case he (!) had ducked in there, I walked down the stairs to the hall, nothing.

Then I stood on the landing and listened.

And I realised it was just a bunch of sounds the house was making - the heating had just come on, the cistern was emptying, the house settling, the usual stuff you hear at night - and it no longer sounded like a presence, but I could hear, now that the sounds were broken up, how they could come together to make it sound like a living person being outside.

It's crazy how that can happen. It's hard to get across to you guys the absolute certainty I had that someone was outside, quickly followed by the realisation there could not be anyone out there, and the almost amazement, plus relief, when I realised what it was.

I was hoping that story was going to end with you finding your sister inexplicably standing in the hallway. That would have been some scary shit.
Title: Re: A thread for nothing
Post by: Trollheart on Apr 18, 2023, 03:37 AM
Literally. When you're on your own, and you know there's only you there, and yet you KNOW there's something out there, well, let's just say it might be a quick trip to, as we say, the jacks, as you say, the john.

Another interesting one: she called me at night years ago (when she still could call me) and told me in terror that there was a vampire outside. Now, she had just finished watching Salem's Lot, so give her a break. But she told me she could hear it scraping its long fingernails across the window, squeak squeak squeak. Terrified.

So I went outside into the dark, sort of half-expecting something really bizarre to be there.
Very cold it was, and I snapped on the outside light as I approached the window while she imagined all sorts as she lay in bed.
Suddenly, a dog howled in the distance.
Maybe.
I'm not sure.
Probably just using that to intensify the suspense.
Anyway, I crept around the side of the house towards the window, trying to be brave and logical.
Couldn't be anything out there.
Certainly not a vampire.
Vampires don't exist.
And then I heard it.
SQUEEEEAKKK!
SKREEKK!
SKREE-EEEK!

I approached the window. My heart was hammering. I told it to put down the hammer and get back in my chest, this was no time for DIY. Picked my jaw up off the ground and reattached it. I was sure I felt something brush against me.

The outside light threw a faint illumination on the window.
Far off down the road, some bastards in a stolen car screeched around a corner.
My palms seemed sweaty.
There's no such thing as vampires.
There's no such thing as vampires.
I leaned towards the window.
And then I saw it.

(Tune in tomorrow for the revelation...)

Saw this on tumblr. It is a bit interesting to think about a connection between trans women and synths. I suppose it's been a thing since the 60s, Wendy Carlos being the classic example.

Shout out to the trans sisters who love transistors.

It's been suggested before actually, but then we'd need someone to manage it.

We'd need a chat room curator. If someone feels the calling, check out our Looking for CURATORS (https://scd.community/index.php?topic=52.0) thread :)

And @Key , we're also looking for a curator for the Games forum. Nudge, wink, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, nudge, etc.

Its not surprising tbh if you're under the age of about 40 you are more likely to oppose the monarchy. Especially in the big cities. I don't have a source I'm basing this on my experience as an English person, in England, over three decades.

The Queen definitely had a lot of support but that's over now.

No, I seldom if ever post on my phone. MB made it a nightmare and even though Tore has made it much smoother to do so here, it's not something I do. I prefer sitting in front of my PC with a keyboard and mouse, able to jump to tabs for GIFs, Wiki or Google or YouTube etc and I don't find that easy on a phone. Although I can say in one way I'm from the mobile phone generation (I remember when phones didn't even have cameras!) it's never been the way I like to use the internet.

I personally hate typing on a touchscreen, especially having to deal with autocorrect. I check SCD from my phone a lot but unless it's gonna be super short I usually post from my laptop.

My first cell phone was this baby that I got for my 17th birthday, the keypad on that thing was so much easier to use than the touchscreen on an Iphone.

Some of the first phones I had as I can't remember the literal first phone.

This one was the first phone to have an FM radio:

I got this one for my 12th birthday. I used it to prank call a friend in class and the teacher took it off me. It still winds me up that it was a Friday and I went without it over the weekend. Should have just took it back off him ffs.

This one I had after. I remember thinking it was so sexy and smooth because it didn't have an aerial poking out the top  8)

In the early days of mobile phones, Nokia was the daddy and all the spoilt brats had the 3210 and later the 3310. They were expensive so your boy Jimmy never had one until the 3410 which I got in 2003. The Nokia craze had died down a bit by then but I still loved it and thought it was stylish.

Here he goes...

In the old days, even having a landline in your house (it was like a mobile, kids, except, well, not mobile) was a big thing. I remember you could see the payphone at the corner from my bedroom and I would watch the queue outside it till it had gone down to one or two people and then leg it down, so that I wouldn't be waiting ages. Course, with my luck the cunt inside it would be on for an hour wittering to his girlfriend. They weren't great places to be - anyone who used one ever felt completely trapped? Like, if someone took it into their head to hammer the door shut you were fucked. Couldn't even break out: that glass was braced with wood panels all over, very hard to smash and even then how would that help?

Then we got our very own landline and we were the cat's pajamas. Everyone of course then called up to use it. No we never charged. I knew I had arrived the day I got a second line in the house just for me, up in my bedroom (cost loads, but the privacy was worth it, and of course I needed it for the internet: back then, you could be connected and if someone picked up the phone downstairs you were gone!) and then at work we started first using pagers and then finally the budget coughed up enough for mobiles, shitty Nokia somethings, hadn't even got a camera or any ringtones. But we were like gangsters with our mobiles. Our favourite: ring someone up and say "guess where I'm calling from?" We had not got a clue.

Yesterday, I walked by a woman on the sidewalk who was talking on her cell phone. As I passed, this is the entirety of what I heard her say: "It's one thing to smell it, but to see it? I had to get up. I had to get off the bus."

I don't know if it's better or worse that I'll never know the context.

Definitely a top three contender in my estimation.

I was once on the subway in the wee hours of the morning and thought it smelled unusually gross. When I got up to exit through the doors I had been sitting next to, I realized why: someone had puked all over the inside of them. I hadn't noticed because I entered through a different set of doors. So it could have been something like that. Or maybe she was talking about smelling urine (the most common scenario on public transit) versus actually watching someone piss in front of you on the bus.

I feel like anyone who is stubborn enough to still not have a smart phone in this day and age has more than earned the inconvenience of being stranded without a phone. Pulling out a flip phone is like the modern equivalent of being amish.

So... I tend to wake up and check my phone in the middle of the night occasionally. I almost always get right back to sleep but this morning I woke up at 3 AM, checked SCD and noticed that the most recently joined member's username was "Carlton Parrot". Carlton is my fiance's middle name (sorry, dear!), so I was a bit taken by surprise and wondered if he had decided to join the forum. I'm sure that's not the case, but I was so surprised that now I can't get back to sleep, haha.

And to Carlton Parrot, welcome to the forum!

I know I do come off as lovey-dovey and maybe a bit clingy. It's just kind of the way I am honestly. I like to cherish our time together in this relationship, I do get very enthusiastic about it so I understand how others may see it as a bit much.

Maybe it's actually Alfonso Ribeiro.

only semi-related but i think something we have in common finding pleasure in and embracing domesticity

when i prepare food for the week for my wife and myself it feels like the most meaningful work i've ever done

and as usual i'll ramble on a bit but one thing i enjoy about restaurant work over teaching is the undeniable end product

same as preparing meals at home

our big bottom shelf freezer is about to be lined with healthy smoothies

the tangible result is rewarding compared to an abstract like teaching and i guess that's ironic because teaching is supposed to be so rewarding

there are moments when teaching is very rewarding

one time a girl that i knew came from a very poor family was not on pace to graduate on time and her mother had cancer and she told me how much she wanted her mother to see her graduate because she was dying - i used my planning period everyday for two months to see to it that she earned the credits she needed using "course recovery" on the last day of school when she said "thank you" it was a great moment for me - another kid gave me his ICP hat on the last day of school and said i was the only teacher that was ever nice to him - other kids said that too

restaurant work can't compete with that but those things are so far and few between they don't keep your morale up as much as making a huge batch of perfect crab cakes everyday

weird, i know

Oh, we definitely have that in common. My sister and I helped my mom in the kitchen and around the house in general when we were kids, and that's kinda where I built up those domestic skills. But having a nice house and a person who appreciates me that I can put a lot of myself into supporting at home, that's something that really inspires me and it's what helped me really fall in love with being a good homemaker and hostess.

If I were able I'd quit my job and be a stay-at-home like my mom, but ultimately I think my current situation of part time work, being able to bring in some money and keep up with work experience, is a good safe compromise.

I totally get you. For me the fulfilling and rewarding moments are when I'm working hard to make our home, our relationship and our lives as comfortable as I can, and bringing both of us that comfort, that inspires me to keep doing it. So I'm totally with you. My actual job is kinda whatever, it's there to pay the bills. But doing work for us, work I can really put all of myself into, that's the most rewarding work for me.

Some items at the store already came with a discount on the item so they added up another $1.70 added onto the $5 off.
It was tough finding things I need to buy because you have to spend $25 to get the $5 off the total. So I just bought a bunch of drinks and rice lol

I read a comical proposed defense for Trump today which read, "The documents were planted, but if they weren't - they are his. And he declassified them. With his mind. Except for when he told that person on tape that he didn't declassify them. And when he told another person they were secret. Except he was kidding. And Biden and Hillary did the exact same thing, but that doesn't matter because Jack Smith's wife made political donations once. And did you know George Soros funds prosecutors?"

That's when I learned of The Gish gallop - a rhetorical technique that involves overwhelming your opponent with as many arguments as possible, with no regard for the accuracy, validity, or relevance of those arguments. Basically burying critics in an avalanche of nonsense.

Wasn't sure if this belongs in the your day thread, my relationship thread or wherever, but I'll just put it here.

The mister approached me this morning and told me he thinks I'm swearing too much on here, which when verbally spoken is against our rules. He's extending that to my posts as well, and to help, he said he's working on a custom word filter similar to my website blocker that will work like autocorrect and give me suggestions on more polite alternatives to such vulgar words.

I'm so lucky to have a guy who cares so much about me being the best version of myself I can be. Between this and the new pager system, he's been putting so much work into making my life and my duties run so much smoother. <3

But, I had a dream the other night and after it stopped, awhile later a different one started with a new place, new atmosphere, and new people and I sat and described the previous dream to them. I'm still thinking about it days later.

I said what the fuck! If you hit a baseball against one of those it'd actually do damage. They look like I could headbutt through them.

I then said how much do they cost, they'd better be cheap.

$250-500k average.

It's a Zen art mindfulness meditation on the banana (is that right, Key?  :D).

(Or:  it's a reminder to us all not to microwave or refrigerate bananas)

I feel like they are expensive because you constantly have to buy them pet clothes since they have no fur and make sure they have plenty of heated pads around.

Glad you replied.

I have a friend who is looking to get into the foot industry. I said I'd ask you what site you use and then let her know.

I have seen her feet and I believe she has potential. She asked me for some coaching and some advice as to what her customers might like. I have discussed this and she will be providing samples of her work for me to give constructive feetback.

So which site should she consider using?

If I may add, I also have some interest in "photo selling" websites as a side hustle, coincidentally I was talking with my husband last night. If @DJChameleon or anyone has any advice about selling "photos" (not feet though in my case) I'd love to discuss it via PM.

I'm not into feet really but wifey won't even let me touch hers to give her a foot massage.

It's related to a trauma event so of course I will respect her wishes but she's definitely missing out on a moment we could bond and be intimate while watching a movie or tv show.

I can certainly relate, from both sides of that situation. It can certainly be a bit of a bummer.

In situations like that I like to try my best to come up with ideas for compromise in the form of possible solutions that can keep both of us happy, even if it isn't the ideal. Is the trauma related to feet specifically? If so, maybe try to think of other little things like that that don't involve feet that you could do together that would be ways of creating those intimate moments and see if she would be open to those.

Makes sense! I don't remember even seeing commercials; I'm pretty sure my dad got it for me as a gift circa 1995-96.

Was a pretty handy little gizmo though; my music making software was more or less rooted to my desktop computer with a crappy microphone plugged into it, and our TVs were all chonky CRTs rooted to their spot, so the only way I could figure out to get samples from the TV to the computer was to use the Yak Bak as a middleman.

12 year old me was truly a tech MacGyver.

True. Though I've been using the internet since around 1997 (I was 8 years old) thanks to my programmer dad raising me on computers, so in terms of internet age I'm not that far behind some of the later gen Xers/early millennials.

Oh, believe me, I'm right there with you. I sometimes give him a little sass about it myself. There's the odd funny thing and trend on there, but the users on it have a habit of running anything mildly funny into the ground. And you hear those same trendy meme songs over and over, always the exact same part of the song, and just, ugh.

The shit that seems to become popular is the miming dancing and film quotes and shit like that. Same tunes over and over again.

Its better than what I was doing at that age but it is strange.

I also don't get 'influencer' boxing. I get that we now have a new form of media in the same way TV was different to radio, films are different to music and so on and these influencers are the stars of that but why would you want to watch them box? Just watch actual boxing?

They sell out entire arenas and make millions in PPVs.

Its literally just Youtubers fighting each other. The fans get really into it and treat it like elite sport. Forensic breakdowns of each fighter's styles and who wins.

The guy who started it is also the same guy who start Prime so that should give you an idea of what the demographic is like.

You don't like watching Amateurs box? I feel like the appeal is to watch Amateur over professional. Professional boxing is boring to most people so if they are already invested in the person from a different medium. They love to see them box over the drama of it all and the back story. I love influencer boxing. By them selling out all the time it shows how much influence they truly have with their audience base.

Older people like to look down on influencers when they find out that they are one but they have the audience to back up their title for the most part and can control sales and even introduce their audience to music they wouldn't have heard otherwise.

The main reason I love TikTok nowadays is finding music through it. People love to mock the dancing but honestly I love to see average people pulling off full choreographed dances that otherwise wouldn't have had the platform to do it. I don't have the courage to jump in on some of these dance trends because I feel like they are super complicated or I'm just not confident enough in my dancing skills but it is encouraging to see people of all generations jump on certain dance trends.

MomTok, BookTok and all the other like sub groups within TikToks atmosphere is great too. Older people(aka you guys in this thread hating on TikTok) just don't like new things when it comes to social media that you don't understand. Once you dive into it. Tiktok can be super informative. There are so many groups outside of just the humor stuff you see and the dance trends.

You might not guess if you just watched me go about my day, but I'm picky about how I spend my time and f.ex. I don't want to have more reasons to sit and play with my phone.

My wife had tiktok before her work made her delete it (due to potential Chinese spying) and a few things seemed off to me about it. The first was getting content just served by an algorithm. It seems so pacifying. I want to have to pick out things I watch. I want to choose. Second are the repeating sound bytes that I find annoying. The last is the short format of the videos.

It's like it's a perfectly made dopamine injector made to erode your attention span and turn you into a zombie that just digests whatever the algorithm serves.

I know I'm old and cranky, but I find it kinda vulgar and off-putting.

Amateur boxing isn't the same as influencer boxing, might sound pedantic but the current world heavyweight champ (Oleksandr Usyk) has had 350 fights as an amateur, the point being amateur can still be incredibly skilled. I get the back story thing but that applies to legitimate boxing as well.

The miming and funny faces is what goes viral on there though. That's why we shit on TikTok.

Before Tik Tok existed there was Vine. Tik Tok just perfected the formula that Vine started off with. If you hate Tik Tok you would have hated Vine. It was 6 second videos, not enough time to get a full joke in but some how Vine stars pulled it off.

Amateur has it's okay technical bracket of fights. I was just using the word amateur to refer to not being professional and kind of one off bouts not the whole amateur boxing scene you are referring to.

There is, idk if it's a community per say but Foottok exists and I'm sure if you type in pedicures into the search bar more will pop up. You have to train the algo to show you what you like on your for you page.

I only found this out somewhat recently (past few years) but Bayern Munich used to have the Nazi swastika on their crest during the years 1939-1945.

It nearly blew my head off when I found out. For our American forumistas who might not understand the significance of this it would be like the Yankees or Lakers changing their logo to a swastika.

Doing some reading the club claims they were forced otherwise they'd not be allowed to exist but I think that's nonsense.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, you can't find anything on their official website about this.

This isn't an annoying thing people say, so it wasn't right for that thread - but something that annoys the absolute fucking shit out of me is the loud abrupt 'chirp' alarm sound smoke detectors make when they're out of battery. It is quite possibly the most annoying sound in the entire fucking universe and I very well might prefer to risk myself dying by burning to death in a fire than hear that infuriating fucking sound another time in my fucking life. And of course it always happens at fucking night when you're trying to sleep - and of course it always happens when you you're fresh out of 9V batteries. Fuck me!

I don't think it's impossible to ignore. You know how many houses I have visited and people just let it chirp away like it is nothing. I always bring it up. Hey maybe change your battery but they don't.

It was in my apartment. Specifically in my bedroom where my wife was trying to sleep after a rough day. So I took that battery out and replaced it with a battery from one of our other smoke detectors. Then I found a 9V battery in our junk drawer - but it must've been a dead one because the damn thing kept chirping. I ended up playing musical smoke alarm batteries until the one that didn't have a battery was the one furthest from our bedroom so I had a chance of fucking sleeping.

I'd say it's impossible to ignore if it's near where you sleep though. If it's like, in your basement or something, then yeah, you could let it chirp for a bit. But otherwise, I think you'd have to be a psychopath to live with it for an extended period of time.

In my apartment building, there is one in the hallway outside of the upstairs neighbor apartment door and they never change it. They just let it chirp away. It's annoying enough that I hear it in my apartment so I know they can hear it in theirs but they won't change it.

It is pretty surreal realizing that the mid-90s, years I have concrete memories of living through, were around three decades ago and almost everyone who was famous or publicly known at the time is at least in their mid 40s.

My formative years are probably being talked about in history textbooks.

But seriously, the only part of the US where you'll find people like that is New York or New Jersey.

I do the same thing, so I got a challenge for you. I suggest we make it a general personal policy to post these uninteresting, poor quality posts. Perhaps we can also tag them with an emoji, like a wine glass 🍷 What say ye?

Yes, Alex is extremely good at getting pedos to incriminate themselves, and he always turns it in to law enforcement (most of the time, they show up at the end of the scene). He was involved with catching/exposing EDP a couple years back.

I used to watch quite a few different catchers, but many of them unfortunately got banned from Youtube - CC Unit, DAP (Dads Against Predators), POP Squad, etc.

I'll have a look later mate.

I do like TCAP. Every now and then I look at the nonce stings that have been uploaded and wonder if I'll see anyone I know.

None yet.

QuoteI am a conspiracy theorist. I believe that groups of people conspire secretly against our interests to line their pockets, cover their backs or achieve political goals. By this definition I suspect you are, too. We see evidence of these conspiracies every day. We see them in the Horizon scandal, in which the Post Office kept prosecuting innocent operators. We see them in the government's use of a "VIP" lane for procuring PPE from friends and donors at extortionate prices. We see them in the Windrush scandal, in which people were denied their legal rights and unlawfully deported by the UK government. In the Cambridge Analytica scandal: a secretive micro-targeting campaign likely to have influenced the Brexit vote. In the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers, showing how the ultra-rich hide their money from taxes and legal scrutiny...
