What do you love to smell?
I got to experience my favorite this morning on the way shopping. Freshly cut grass. I walked through the dog park while the mower was cutting the grass. So fresh it was still screaming.

- Women's hair when you hug them

- Petrol
- Chlorine in swimming pools

- Fresh weed, meaning in the bag unsmoked
- Fresh washing
- Cinnamon
- Garlic and onions being fried
- Soap
- Plant smell when it's been a hot day

Maybe it's because I live with someone who buys little gizmos frequently, but I've grown to enjoy the smell of new electronics. Taking them out of the box and peeling off that plastic, the whole experience is satisfying.
I also like the smell of light rain on pavement. Kind of a wistfully nostalgic smell.
A smell I love that's very specific is the smell of Myrica gale (bog myrtle) which is lovely on its own, but then also mixed with Calluna vulgaris (common heather), sheep and sea air. It's part of the smell of this kind of landscape (from a trip last weekend):

Many who keep sheep in southern Norway would just put them on islands or fenced off areas by the coast like this and their grazing helps make a good environment for heather. It also makes for a rugged, but very inviting cultural landscape.
I also love the smell of menthol. I have a small jar of pure menthol crystals and they smell so nice.
Coffee, of course. Fresh rolling tobacco. Wool blankets, leather and Islay whisky like a Laphroaig Quarter Cask. The back of my wife's neck.
A strange one I remember from my childhood was a seat pillow storage space in the front of our boat. It was a place we put pillows or whatchacallit for the seats in the boat and they were made of some plastic so the foam inside wouldn't get wet. Their scent was very distinct and it filled that space. I used to sleep inside that storage, lulled by the waves rocking the boat.
The inside of a hardware store. I guess it's the combination of smells of various things in those stores but they usually have a distinct odor.
The inside of a shop which sells leather goods. Something about the smell of new leather.
The smell of a new comic book.
The smell of an old comic book.
The smell of electric trains or electric slot cars when they are running on a track.
Sausages and onions being fried together by food vendors at a festival or sporting event.
The smell of paper money.
Incense of various kinds.
Hashish (fresh before being smoked and while being smoked.)
Lots more but those were the first ones I thought of just now.

I'm going to start off with the scents I hate that others usually love. Fresh cut grass gotta go. Hate it. Grass after a rain hate it. Just the whole after rain smells gotta go. Mostly because I live in an urban area so after rain smell is usually against asphalt and it stinks to high heaven. I don't get the whole after rain smell thing, it's never been a good smell to me. Anything that smells like Chocolate is a no go for me as well. I personally don't like chocolate at all but I tolerate it and eat it in extremely small amounts.
yeah I love new car scent as well. Well any new product scent when you just open it up is delightful.
I also love citrus scents so a large majority of my colognes have a citrus base to them especially if they are the ones that I wear daily. For special occasions like date night. I like to wear a deep smelling musk or cedar wood.
Bergamot is another favorite scent of mines.

Most of my perfumes are very sweet confection smells. It doesn't feel right if I walk in the room and don't smell like a dessert bakery.
Ew I associate that smell with teenagers buying body sprays from Bath and Body Works. I don't like anything that smells sickeningly sweet.

Perfectly fair! Honestly the sweet stuff is more my everyday scent for my work shifts, for a nice evening at home or a date night, I tend to go for more floral scents.
I like the sweet perfume for going out to work or errands because it's pretty strong and offsets any potential sweat smell from all the house chores. I go to work right after finishing my daily deep cleaning, so that's one reason I use it.
My daughter gave me Daisy by Marc Jacobs as a gift a few years ago. It's a really nice fragrance if you like floral-forward perfumes. Also has just a hint of musk, which balances the sweetness.
Another favorite smell I forgot to list: Toasted marshmallows
I once had a toasted marshmallow milk shake, with a toasted marshmallow on top. It was to die for.

I have never smelled WD-40. Next time I go to the hardware store I'll take a sniff. :)
I've never really noted much of a distinctive smell of WD40 either, and I worked at a hardware store for two years.
I also had to use a lot of it to remove a coaxial cable from the wall last year to replace the modem and router. The mister had his old one for like 7 years, never touching it in that whole time, and it had rusted to the wall screw.
Not a fun day!

Oh, you guys need to get a whiff. It's not a very strong smell, but very pleasant.

That's very impressive, Mrs. Waffles :laughing: Seriously. I'm the least handy person on earth; I bought a pink drill last month from Amazon and still haven't taken it out of the box.

I'm not the
handiest person, there's certainly some skills I've picked up, both from working at my old hardware store job and doing stuff at home, but power tools are my weak spot so I feel you on that. I can do hammers and nails and wrenches and screws and all that, but you give me a drill or an electric saw or anything and I'm like nope, haha.
