Prince - 1999

I was this cool the whole time.

Sorry for the late update again. Had some trouble loading the site during the past few days for some reason. Anyway, Prince is out and we've reached the final round.

Final Round

6. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
7. Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

Vote 1 off by July 16.

As this battle is nearly over, feel free to make suggestions for the next one to do. As always, the list of genres remaining are on the first page of the thread.

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

I would love to have the prog or krautrock battle next.

This final vote came down to a coin-toss for me.

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

Tough call but...

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

It was a close battle 'til the very last, but in the end What's Going On by Marvin Gaye takes the win!

Gonna wait a little longer to announce the next battle, but just an early heads up: I'm gonna take a few weeks off from running this thread once the next battle is posted; probably until early August at least. Therefore, the deadline for the first round of the next battle is going to be somewhat longer than usual.
So far, Krautrock and Prog Rock has been suggested by @Mrs. Waffles for the next battle. I'd gladly go for either of those possibilities, but I'd like to check how many others are interested in those, or alternatively if you'd like to suggest something else, you can do that too.

Krautrock or Prog Rock are fine with me. No preference for one over the other.

I'd prefer the krautrock battle, I think it's a more diverse smattering of albums and I'd be very interested to see SCD's preferences.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Also, it might be good to put off the Prog rock battle until TH is back, since I'd bet he'd want to participate in that one.

Everybody fine with the current list for Krautrock?
Quote1. Sand - Golem
2. Faust - Faust IV
3. Neu! - Neu!
4. Can - Tago Mago
5. Amon Düül II - Yeti
6. Kraftwerk - Autobahn
7. Popol Vuh - In den Gärten Pharaos
8. Cluster - Zuckerzeit
9. Tangerine Dream - Electronic Meditation
10. Harmonia - Musik Von Harmonia

It looks pretty fine to me at least. I'd question whether albums like Autobahn and the Popol Vuh one should be considered krautrock, but I can see that it's at least adjacent but sort of tapping into that more electronic-oriented "Berlin school" sound or whatever. At any rate, I'm probably fine with not changing anything about the list if nobody else has any complaints

I think that's a good list, not one of the best Tangerine Dream albums but it's the closest to a more classic "krautrock" sound than Berlin School or pure ambient. Popol Vuh yeah that album is more new age/space music but I love it to bits and it adds some diversity, as does Autobahn. So I'm fine with that list.

It looks like there are no real complaints with regard to the next battle's list, so I'll just get us going for now

3. Neu! - Neu!
4. Can - Tago Mago

Finally a battle where I've heard most of the albums right off the bat, haha. I just finished listening to the only one I hadn't, so I'm ready to (kraut)rock.

Faust - Faust IV
