Title: The Ultimate Hygiene Thread
Post by: DJChameleon on Aug 30, 2023, 10:26 AM
Yeah so I had this idea for a thread awhile back but never posted it until now.

All things hygiene and hygiene related questions.

So I wanted to know a couple of things from the crowd.

Do you prefer night time showers or morning showers? Also do you just end up showering twice a day? Do your showering habits change based on the season?

What do you use in the shower to soap up with? Wash cloth? Loofah? Bare hand and bar of soap?

Do you prefer bar soaps or body wash and preferably why?

Do you actually wash your legs or just let the soap suds flow down your legs not ever touching them? How frequently do you shower/wash your hair?

If you come into this thread, keep your judgements to yourself about others hygiene habits. I don't want people to not feel comfortable being able to open up about theirs.

In the summer, I have to do both and sometimes end up with three showers a day depending on how hot/sweaty the day is and if I have to go back out into public. In the winter I stick to mostly just morning showers especially if I'm not leaving the house.

I'm a bar soap kind of person and I use a washcloth. I buy those like 20 packs and rotate through them. I sometimes wash a few of them in the laundry but they are kind of disposable and I just end up throwing them away after a bit. I know super wasteful but whatever.

Since I use a washcloth I make sure to scrub my legs and the bottoms of my feet as well when I shower.

Daily showers and I shampoo my hair every three days or so.

As a fairly active person who often gets down and dirty with deep cleaning, I did have to step up my game with washing myself over time. I very much value being presentable, and so I also use deodorant, antiperspirants and perfume every day.

As for showering, I do it in the morning right after my exercise routine. I'd actually like to be able to shower again later as I often change clothes from more housework-friendly ones to nicer dresses in the evening when Mr. Waffles gets home, but I don't want to waste makeup by taking it all off and putting more on just to get in another shower. It happens in some situations though, like date nights. At any rate I do have a little everyday freshening up routine in between getting home from work and starting on dinner.

I use a wash cloth and body wash, and I shampoo and condition my hair every 3 days usually, though sometimes I cheat a bit and wait a fourth day. At any rate dry shampoo is my best friend.

And I very much wash my legs. I admit I don't always give them the most attention as my showers do need to be timely, but yeah I do wash them.

I shower in the morning. If I spend the day out and get really fonky I'll shower when I get home. I like night time bubble baths in the winter.

I use exfoliating shower gloves and shower gel. I drop the bottle less than I do a bar of soap.

I wash my legs and feet in the shower in the summer because I get corn chip feet when it's warm. In the cooler months I don't pay them much mind in the shower unless they're dirty, but I wash them in the bath.

I use a shower puff every few showers or so. You don't need one every time and my skin can get irritated if I overdo it.

I also have a bar of soap especially for washing my arsehole and my bellend.

I don't wash my hair because I haven't got any. My bald head gets washed with my beard wash which I also use for my face. I use soap in my ears and behind them.

Yes I scrub my legs and feet. Why would you not?

I prefer soap bars. Every few months I might treat myself to a nice one that costs a bit more. My last one was cinnamon scented and it was great. Usually just use plain soap though.

I use Old Spice deodorant that has no alcohol because it is cheap and smells great. I also use Old Spice EDT.

I trim my armpits and my pubes every few weeks. Sometimes might squat down and shave my arsehole.

😂

I used washing up liquid to 'clean' the fish bowl with the fish in it when I was a kid and did the same thing. I cried. Was about 4.

Do you prefer night time showers or morning showers? Also do you just end up showering twice a day? Do your showering habits change based on the season?

Usually mornings after I work out. If I can't get a morning work out, I'll skip the shower and wait until evening to work out and then shower.

What do you use in the shower to soap up with? Wash cloth? Loofah? Bare hand and bar of soap?

Bare hands and a bar of soap.

Do you prefer bar soaps or body wash and preferably why?

Bar soap. The few body washes I've tried were a bit too fragrant for my taste.

Do you actually wash your legs or just let the soap suds flow down your legs not ever touching them? How frequently do you shower/wash your hair?

Usually wash my legs. Once in a while I'll just let the soap suds flow down my legs without touching them.

I shower and wash my hair once a day. Once in a great while, I might shower twice in one day but I'll only wash my hair once.

Fun thread idea :D

I prefer morning showers because it wakes me up and I get to start the day feeling fresh. I shower once a day, with bare hands and bar soap (Pears soap in my case), I like the texture of a soap bar and just think Pears smells really neat. I always wash my legs and I wash my hair every 3 or 4 days, I try not to do it so often but it gets greasy fast. I wash my face twice a day at least, but just with water. That's about it, apart from toothbrushing and deodorant

Speaking of texture of soap bars, I've really gotten into handmade soaps lately. It started with Dr. Squatch then I decided to step away from corporate stuff and support local businesses that make handmade bar soaps so I've been getting into that lately. I love the texture of them but they end up forcing me to use just hand and the bar soap.

I stick to Irish Spring otherwise if I don't have a handmade soap available and Irish Spring is much easier to use with a washcloth.

Oh yes, I wanted to ask about face washing habits as well.

In general, does everyone wash their face twice a day? Or do you prefer morning vs night?

I tend to only wash my face in the morning, I feel like I should do it at night as well to wash away the grime of the day. When I shower after coming back from the gym then I will wash my face to get rid of the sweat from working out.  Also I start with hot/warm water to open up my pores and then when I'm rinsing my face off, I use cold water. I also use a cleanser from Neutrogena that has like exfoliating beads in it.

I usually have makeup on for most of the day, so I do wash my face in the morning, then I also do a rinse and cleanse when I take my makeup off, which I do at some point between dinner cleanup and just before bedtime. So yeah twice a day for me.

Since I got my hair dyed blonde last November, I've been using purple shampoo and conditioner to help preserve the dye job. Still looks pretty good after 10 months. I don't use bar soap because I'm a butterfinger haha.

I kinda wish I had the time to take more baths. If anyone's taking a bath in this house it's usually the mister, I have too much to get done and when I do have free time it's never one of the things that pops in my head to do.

I usually shower after taking a dump even if it does sometimes lead to multiple showers a day. Anyone else doing that? I can go without it but it feels unpleasant. I also prefer to rinse my dick under the tap after taking a piss, so there's also that.

No but you know the trays that you keep your bars of soap on at the sink, for washing your hands? You will get that sludgy soap that collects in it. I use that to wash my arsehole after having a shit. Dip your tissue in it and clean 8)

I do this after a wank

About showering, it used to be pretty much every day. Then electricity got super expensive for various reasons, including war. We all cut down to save on bills, so 2-3 showers a week became the norm. Now I'm exercising five days a week or more, so that makes me shower more.

I usually try to get it done quickly. I currently use a bar soap. The ones we use are inside small bags made of a mesh so the soap gets through and it also has a slight scrubbing effect. For nether regions, I just get soap on my hands and scrub with those. I sometimes try to dig the nails in a little  Ass, dick and armpits get first priority and then feet and everything else.

I usually don't wanna have sex unless I feel nice and clean.

I find I actually shower after sex more frequently than before. There have certainly been times on the weekends when we've had a little afternoon delight and had to freshen up afterwards to do something else later in the day.

I wear a lot of antiperspirant deodorant and perfume, but there's only so much that can do when I've gotten all sweaty from some spontaneous sex.

I miss taking baths. The tub that I have doesn't have a proper stopper and my old one that I used to use just like stopped being as effective and I haven't found a new one that works properly yet. Also the landlord in my building is so whiny about the water bill. So if I took more baths it would raise the water bill and it would trigger a letter getting sent to all tenants in the building about having a plumber come over to check for leaky pipes.

Bidet or possibly use wet wipes instead of toilet paper might make you feel better about it unless you are super joking.

I like the direction of this conversation. So next question,  Do you prefer to shower up before sex or only after? Why ?

I generally like to shower before sex but there is something hot and passionate about just going to town being dirty to do a dirty act.

Sometimes I end up showering before and after sex but if I get a chance to not shower before sex then I will do it after.

I also like to just not shower after sex and cuddle afterwards but it doesn't happen very often because my partner is a bit of a clean/neat freak so she promptly showers after sex. I feel guilty so I either join her in the shower or wait til she's done then go shower up myself too.

I use a beard shampoo for my beard (and face). Every time I shower. They say you're not supposed to but I think that's bollocks and haven't noticed a difference.

I then use coconut oil (the extra virgin, cold pressed stuff, not the shitty cheap stuff. I remember shitting in coconut oil ages ago, if it's good quality it's OK) in my beard for the skin and to keep it nice and oiled. Then I brush with boar bristle brush. If I a feeling particularly stylish I use a balm to help keep it in place. They smell of all sorts of things. My favourite one is this:

It smells like blackjacks. Really nice.

I'd say after for the most part. For various reasons, one being that we're both pretty clean and hygienic people and I've never been bothered by any dirty smell or taste when we're going at it. Frankly the mister doesn't do a lot of physical activity (he sits in a chair all day at work and at home I do everything for him, haha) so he never gets that sweaty. And he's never complained about me being dirty either. He also likes me to look nice and made up even when we're having sex if possible so showering before would wash that all away. And like I've said in the past, a lot of our sexual acts are quite spontaneous and I know he doesn't want to wait 15 minutes for a shower and dry off and all that. The main exception is if we're going to do anything anal, then I definitely clean that area.

Overall it varies depending on the time of day and situation whether or not we do much cuddling afterward. Sometimes I just gotta get back to the housework, you know the deal, haha.

I need to up my beard game.  Right now I only use a beard oil but I want to get a shampoo as well. I tend to just use my regular face wash stuff. The Neutrogena cleanser and use that for my beard too.

I use the beard oil like right before I'm going to head out for the day and I have a beard comb that I use. Well I'm currently using a pick because I lost my favorite beard comb and need to get a new one. I got my beard oil from like some Youtuber that makes his own stuff. I think the one I'm using has tea tree oil in it.

Jamaican black castor oil is good as well Deej and very cheap. Probably better cos it's like a thick treacle so has some hold to it.

Today's question is a bit hygiene adjacent but I didn't feel like creating a whole new thread to ask these series of questions.

Pet Owners:

Do you allow your fur baby to sleep in your bed with you? Also specify if they are a dog or cat.

If it's a dog how long do you go before you give them a bath granted they didn't get into mud and need an emergency bath.

If you own a cat do you bath them or use a waterless shampoo?

Do you regularly clip their claws to keep them short?

So I have three cats and I let them sleep in my bed but I have wipes thay I keep in my bed to wipe down their paws and they hate it lol. I'm like either you get your paws wiped or you get off the bed. Sometimes they are fed up and get off the bed lol.

I have bath wipes AND waterless shampoo. The bath wipes are for during the week and when they get in bed and the waterless shampoo is once a week rub down.

I bought clippers to clip their claws and keep it short similar to what gets done at the vet but I need to buy some of the like claw pad things so if I accidentally nick them too long I can stop the bleeding quickly. My fancy claw clipper has a mini light on it too.

We've had the cat for less than a month, so some of this is subject to change.

As of right now we do let her come on the bed and sleep there if she wants, she usually likes the foot of the bed or between the mister's legs. I'm kind of glad she seems to prefer him to me, he sleeps like a rock even with her on his side of the bed, whereas I'm not sure I could get as good of sleep if she was all over me like that.

Paw wipes are a good idea! I am currently dealing with having to clean the wood floor more often and more intensely because she sometimes gets kitty litter or dust on her paws, so that would definitely help.

I haven't bathed her yet. Growing up that was a once in a while thing since cats are pretty good at keeping themselves clean. My mom (her previous owner) didn't ask that we do so, but we can look into it.

My mom also gave me a really effective claw clipper, so yeah I clip her claws. Having to do so marks the first time in 15 months that I've worn pants, as I change into sweat clothes to avoid her claws ripping my dresses. She absolutely hates being picked up, and she has scratched me and made me bleed. Fun stuff!

But she's a quirky little goofball and I enjoy having her around. I spend so much time in the house by myself that it's nice to have some company.

He doesn't like having his claws clipped but he will tolerate one or two at a time.

He sleeps in my bed in the cooler weather. I don't wash his paws because I can't be bothered.

I don't bathe or shampoo him. He wouldn't like that.

Yeah I have hard wood floors as well and I just mop up more often. You might want to get one of those mats to put under the litter box it kind of catches excess litter. I got two of those mats super cheap from Temu but I'm sure they are cheap other places as well.

Interesting thread  ;D

Do you prefer night time showers or morning showers? Also do you just end up showering twice a day? Do your showering habits change based on the season?

I take both morning and nighttime showers – but the nighttime showers are faster.  I don't usually wash my hair at night, but always wash my hair in the morning.  And I'm constantly alternating shampoos (right now it's Vanicream, Tea Tree Lemon Sage and Pantene silicone-free.  My hair is a bit fine so I'm always trying to volumize, lol.)  I adjust during summertime by washing my hair more often at night if it's been an especially hot, sticky day.

What do you use in the shower to soap up with? Wash cloth? Loofah? Bare hand and bar of soap?

Here's where it gets more complicated. :D  I use a super-soft makeup-removing wash cloth in the shower to wash my face and then remove my mascara with it.  Then I use a regular, rougher wash cloth to wash my body.  Finally, I use a sea sponge to rinse it all off.  See what I mean about *alternating* lol?

Do you prefer bar soaps or body wash and preferably why?

Here we go again.  I use bar soap (Dial gold) and also Dr. Bronner's liquid castile almond soap.  I use the Dial bar soap mostly for the *private areas* (as my mother would say) because it's antibacterial and just feels cleaner to me.  I use the Dr. Bronner's liquid for the rest of my body including legs and feet.  When I shave my legs and underarms, I also use the Dr. Bronner's for that.

Do you actually wash your legs or just let the soap suds flow down your legs not ever touching them? How frequently do you shower/wash your hair?

See above.  I usually wash my legs and feet with a regular wash cloth; but during the nighttime shower am not as thorough and sometimes just let the soap flow down if I'm too tired to bother.   Always wash hair in the morning shower, but occasionally if I'm running late I'll skip it and use dry shampoo that day.  Dove makes a great cheap dry shampoo!

stuff I use.
I use just some normal hand soap too and use a small amount of charcoal toothpaste for the tip of my nose to dry it out lol
Sometimes I shower just to re-charge and I say "What is the most important thing I need to do after this shower";
And then think about what I am going to do when I dry off and clothes back on;
I do a cold shower for about 15-20 seconds while the water gets warm;
I mainly shower after running or walking too, so I'll wait in the mornings to not shower until Im all sweaty;
lately walking and running in the mornings had led to just one shower after that and I just wait until the next day;
:pimp:

It's the mint/tea tree essential oil that makes your balls tingle. It might be light but I wouldn't recommend doing it for a long period of time. I feel like it might be slowly having a bad effect on your body part. It reminds me of the time that I accidentally got icy hot on my balls now that is extreme pain and I do NOT recommend.

I use Irish Spring bar soaps. Well I bought like a bulk supply of them so I'm just going through and using them up but I also have some handmade soaps from a local shop.  I have gotten into them more and more after trying out Dr. Squatch.

This one is similar in smell to the one that I'm using.

I use this on my body instead of lotion. A nice body butter. Lotion in the summer feels excessive and it feels like I sweat more when I put on lotion but body butter is different. Helps me not look ashy but also doesn't feel like it's blocking my pores which leads to more sweating.

It's absolutely incredible how much mint oil can burn, and not in a good way.

I made my own beard oil (which I'll probably do again) with jojoba and a few drops of mint.

My face was on fire to the point I did worry if it was going to get much worse.

Smelled lovely and clean though.

BTW for the people who have feet and like to take care of them, I use talcum powder on them in summer 👍🦶

Speaking of feet, I wonder how many male members get pedicures.

I'm not talking like getting nail polish just the whole massage aspect, callousness removed and in growns taken care of.

I get a pedicure once a month and sometimes if I'm feeling it, I will let them put a clear polish on my toe nails.

I could be making more if I put initiative into it and started doing colors.

Are there way more white males doing it than black males? I'd consider it but might be harder if the market is saturated.

Also speaking of foot care I sometimes like to use those foot peels where you shed skin like a snake. Takes about a week for full shedding. I even got one of my girl friends to try it and she was very pleased. I don't do painting the nails but I have done before. Bright orange. Thought it looked snazzy.

It's a niche market as it is so yeah there is definitely more white males doing it than black males but it's not much compared to how many women are doing it.

Also I have heard about those chemical peels and they always seemed a bit extreme to me. I stay away from them.

If you are into painting them yourself then go for it dude. I would just let the pros do it at a nail salon.

I have been heavily thinking about doing colors because I only wear sneakers so no one will be seeing my toes anyways unless it's when I take pictures.

What? The foot sheds its skin like it's a sock?

Doesn't it emerge like a newborn, all pink, wrinkly and crying?

I know we talked a little bit about washing hair/shampoo but I wanna do a deep dive into hair care routine.

What shampoo/conditioners do you use? Do you even care about conditioning your hair?

I know some guys don't even bother. We just use shampoo and that's it.

What type of products do you use in your hair? Gels, pomades, anti fizz products?

Also include what type of hair you have with said products.

I have C4 hair its like typical black people natural curl hair but I just recently switched up my style. All summer when I went to get hair cuts. I told my barber to shape my hair like a burst fade. I wanted to look like the ultimate gym bro. It's basically like a mohawk with the sides shaved.

Now that I have a lot of hair growth for the Fall/Winter I have transitioned to getting my hair cut into a flat top.

Oh another question for the guys that go to barbers often. What your current style that you tell the barber? Also if you don't go to the barber do you cut your hair yourself at home or shave down yourself if you rock the bald headed style? What's the razor situation that you use to keep your bald dome looking Mr. Clean spectacular?
Title: Re: The Ultimate Hygiene Thread

When I grew my hair I had it bald on the sides faded into short on top.

Learned to cut it when I was about 14.

I cut my friends hair for them too. One of them was black! Normally I wouldn't mention this but with the different hair types... He also said I did a good job BTW.

Now I shave my head bald. I moisturise my head when it is stubbly and use a boar bristle brush to massage it in. Then hot towel and foam and razor. It comes out extra smooth. I do that twice a week. I use Gillette Mach 3 blades, all good.

I also shave my dome every few days. I prefer the chrome dome look, but the sandpaper, stubble and frizz are quick to appear.

I just lather my dome with shaving cream and use a gilette something mach razor to shave.

Nicked myself yesterday 🙃 it happens on rare occasions. When I have enough scar tissue, I might look like Pinhead one day.

Wakkamakkafo. Straight from the top of my dome 🔮

@Guybrush one time I was shaving my head too enthusiastically and I took a chunk of skin off. It was that thick it clogged the blade up and I had to pull it out.

My head was leaking with blood.

Took a few months to heal before I could shave over it again.

Reckon if we rubbed our bald heads together we could start a fire?

Haha, possibly. I'm at my most sandpapery right now. I sometimes rub the dome on my kids to torture them.

Since I've had my hair dyed blonde, I've used purple shampoo and conditioner every two-three days to help preserve the dye. On the days I don't wash it I use dry shampoo. When styling my hair I use hairspray, and while I don't curl my hair much anymore (I did when it was shorter) for that I use setting lotion before putting in my curlers.

I do sometimes have a bit of a frizz problem, maybe worth looking into.

My hair is naturally brown and wavy, type 1C would be the most accurate. I used to have shorter haircuts, just above shoulder length, but the mister likes my hair longer and thus I have not gotten it cut since the fall of 2021. I'd like to style my bangs at some point as those do frequently mess me up by falling into my lipstick and such. And I very rarely put my hair up or into a ponytail so that is a recurring problem.

My hair is naturally a medium blonde and I used to get highlights but can't really be bothered with that these days.  I have never had short hair and look horrible in bangs, lol.  In summer I almost always wear my hair up, but as the weather cools I wear it down.  My hair is very fine and I'm always trying to volumize, including with hair spray as you do @Mrs. Waffles - but my hair stylist recently suggested a lighter (and more expensive, of course!), brushable brand (Sebastian Shaper) that doesn't strip my hair.  I never use conditioner, because if I did I'd have totally flat hair.  I don't usually have problems with frizz, which is fortunate because if I used anti-frizz products I'd go flat from those too.  I wash my hair every day but if I have to skip use Dove volumizing dry shampoo.  And I rotate shampoos all the time; currently alternating between Vanicream sensitive, Tea Tree brand Lemon Sage Thickening (my favorite shampoo) and ol' faithful Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo.    :)

Does your hair get super oily? Just based off of what you say it seems like you may be over shampooing but whatever works for you works.

Also the whole switching between two shampoos. I feel like over time that damages your hair but I am by no means a hair stylist so I wouldn't know for sure.

I wash every other/every three days because I was advised to by the salon that dyes my hair, they said something about how the bleaching interacts with my hair means that washing every day would mess with the dye job.

These days I also feel like I naturally just don't have to wash it as much because I don't leave the house very often and day-two dry shampoo is fine by the man of the house's standards.

I'll have to check out that hairspray brand, using too much of what I use currently makes my hair all cracked and brittle and it's easy to accidentally spray too much.

My hair doesn't get oily, usually it's normal I guess, but the stylist told me that my hair was a lot drier than the last time he saw me.  I asked if overwashing/alternating shampoos was the cause and he said he didn't think so (surprisingly).  He thinks it's due to the Aussie hairspray I've been using to build volume into my hair.  I spray it in, let it dry a bit and then flip over to brush it out.  He thinks the Aussie brand is damaging and has been stripping moisture from my hair.  So he recommended the gentler Sebastian hairspray.  Since I'm obsessed with building volume  :coldsweat:, he also recommended root-lifting spray as an alternative to hairspray.  The one he let me try in the salon was called Velino Roots-Up, but he said it's hard to find because it's from Italy and the salon was on its last bottle.  That stuff smelled so good, really refreshing and light!  And it worked really well.  He said he'd try to see if the salon could get more bottles from their suppliers.

That's right, Mrs. Waffles – washing every day would definitely strip the dye.  When I got highlights, I used a color preserving shampoo and didn't wash my hair every day.  Dyeing and highlighting also have the side benefit of volumizing hair (usually).

The Sebastian hairspray is very nice but doesn't give that mega-build and hold that those "freeze" hairsprays do.   But those "freeze" hairsprays do exactly as you say – make your hair cracked and brittle.

In the wintertime, I don't always wash my hair every day and use the dry shampoo more often.  Dry shampoo also tends to build volume (and the one I use by Dove gives the hair a boost :D).

Someone above mentioned the foot peels, I have had one before. They are fascinating as well as being so good for your skin, if you like picking things you will definitely love them. It kept me occupied for hours 😂.

In terms of shampoo etc, I use run of the mill shampoo and conditioners and sometimes use a deep conditioning treatment but as I've dyed my hair ginger, the bleached ends are finally growing out and I find my hair is much healthier and not as dry as I always assumed it was.

I wash my hair once or twice a week maximum, I do shower more often but I have quite long hair and don't have the mental energy to wash/dry it any more than that.

Doesn't our poor feet need their skin, including the tough corns and calluses that can withstand the repeated friction from our awful shoes?

I gotta find a video and see what this looks like.

Cannibals eating feet skin is making me laugh 😂.

It's not quite as extreme as the video you linked. The amount that comes off is probably more similar to what a foot file would do for you, it doesn't go deep enough to remove calluses but it just takes off the unnecessary extra bits and smooths them out.

@ribbons as Jimmy was saying you get little socks in your pack to wear with them so your whole foot gets the benefit of it. I'm so excited to do it again now we've been talking about them 😂😂

Well, the thing that made me think of it was @DJChameleon foot modelling and it being part of his beauty routine. Nothing wrong with that! I'd probably do it too if I was a foot model.

As it is, I think we're not supposed to have baby soft skin on our feet. If it was advantageous in some way, natural selection would've made sure most people already had that.

If you blog it, I will take a gander, but BEWARE I do find it disturbing. Maybe you could fry the skin peels in an oven to make cannibal chips.

Yeah absolutely! I'm really careful with my feet because I do a lot of walking and hiking. It doesn't take off too much but some people get a little more hard skin than they need so rather than filing or hacking away with nail clippers... I don't know anyone that does that 🫣😂 it just helps reduce it a bit and makes them feel lovely 😊

This is the cream I currently use but there are definitely other types out there.

Thanks, DJ - I'll try the O'Keefe's!  Not sure, but I think I used their cuticle cream before and it was very effective - you didn't have to use much.

Not sure if this has already been chatted about, but I saw a tiktok on putting toothpaste on your floss- GAME CHANGER!!! My teeth feel like clean, pampered, swaddled little babies. NOT the same as using mint-flavoured floss. 10/10 would recommend.

I was just going to mentioned the mint flavored ones as I was reading.

I don't like using the regular floss. I have those floss picks that I use.

I use brush-type interdental floss sticks, because string floss hurts my teeth.  Still, a very good idea to add a bit of toothpaste to the bristle brush - thanks for the tip @flytrap!

That's brilliant, thanks for the tip! I also use those picks rather than string floss and I think it would be easy as pie to just dip the pick into my glob of toothpaste before I brush.

@Mrs. Waffles, do you use just the regular picks or the type with the bristles at the end?  My teeth have always been sensitive, so the sticks hurt - and I actually can't get them to fit between my teeth.   ???

I use the ones that look like this, just a string of floss on a plastic holder. I get them in bulk at the grocery store.

^ I used to use those, but the floss would get stuck between my teeth - literally to the point where it couldn't be dislodged (and the stick would be left hanging).  The only place I could floss with string was in between my front teeth, because I have a gap there.  ???   That's why I use the flexible bristle picks.

Does anyone use mouthwash?  I use the Listerine Cool Mint blue one, which feels milder than other mouthwashes.

PS:  And for toothpaste, I've been using Colgate Max Fresh Whitening - which is surprisingly good, I find - except that it the paste really clings to the sink and it's hard to clean out.

Oh, that's awful, sorry you had to go through that. They've worked fine for me, but my teeth are not super tightly close together, years of drug abuse saw to that. I use this listerine that is good for gum health because during my most recent dental cleanings I found out my gums were a bit on the unhealthy side and becoming super sensitive. So I know use gum related products. I also use sensodyne toothpaste to help get my gums to become healthy again. I had a cleaning like two days ago and I got compliments about how they are improving and my mouth wasn't as much of a bloody mess as it used to be after cleanings.

Yeah I have to do that.  Was born with a tail but they took the tail and left the fistula, which has complicated my life so much.  When bidet attachments became cheap (e.g. $35) I was beside myself with happiness.  When I must use loo paper it's a few passes and then must shower, because it could be 20 passes and I'd never get clean because of that goddamn fistula.

If I'm gonna be bleaching, then I definitely dye it first. That way if the bleach does any damage to the hair during the dyeing process, that damage can be assessed and more easily handled when the cut is happening. It's been about a decade since I dyed without bleaching so I'm not sure on that.

For you, dye it then get it cut.

Almost certain that you are close to the skin when you have a haircut so seeing as there is next to nothing there just dye it first then have your usual haircut.

correct me if I'm doing or saying wrong but I recently discontinued using deodorant altogether.  I started doing this after both taking into account that the active ingredient in my deodorant was aluminum (a metal going into ur body hmm) and the fact that the deodorant companies literally had to once persuade the general public that body odor was undesirable and that we needed deodorant.  idk if I've got all the facts right but I haven't gotten any complaints or funny looks yet so idk.  I shower every other day cause it'll dry the fuck out of your skin to do so daily or even multiple times a day like some do.

So in recent years this has become common knowledge that aluminum is pretty harmful so most deodorant companies have been pushing for aluminum free deodorant alternatives and there are companies like Native that have more natural deodorants look into those.

I know that the Old Spice deodorant doesn't have any aluminium in it. I use it. Just the regular roll-on deodorant.

Fresh sweat shouldn't smell so as long as you do shower regularly you'll be OK unless you have some health conditions or things that could change this. It's not for me though.

I get stressed if my pits aren't lathered in deodorant, so it's not for me. I don't know if aluminium in deodorant is a significant enough health risk to be worth concern (seemed inconclusive last time I checked), but I get wanting to protect oneself from harmful stuff.

Interesting. There have been days when people have said I smelled nice when I forgot to put on deodorant, so I'm not even sure how much it does for me to be honest. I also put on perfume most days and use scented body lotion frequently so maybe that stuff does the heavy lifting and I don't need deodorant as much as I think I do.

And @Hope, yes, absolutely same. I find Aaron's man musk to be powerfully attractive.

Well. Today I heard The Guardian Science Weekly interview a Swedish researcher about the vaginal microbiome.

It was interesting. Having a background in biology and being generally interested in the topic, I am somewhat familiar with the broad strokes. Like when our daughter was born with a C-section in 2016, we got help with transferring to our newborn some of that vaginal microbiome that a cesarean baby would likely miss out on.

Anyways, these are two ladies talking. Researcher says that actually, the vaginal microbiome is influenced by the gut microbiome. Interviewer says wow, she never would have guessed that. Researcher doesn't address it. I'm like... Have you seen how close together nr. 1 and 2 are? There's no magic to this, only proximity and opportunity.

Anyways, it's supposed to be like that. Yes, nature wants your newborn to rub their face in your crotch/ass to get a taste. We need all these little bugs and I think we should probably be less squeamish. Like the worst thing you can do for your old Beaver and its little helpers is washing it with soap on the regular, this according to the researcher and also my wife who has been saying this for years. Just rince it with water and there's some oils one can use.

So, uh. Those are just my thoughts on the topic coming straight at ya from our bathtub.

I think your natural body scent differs depending on your diet as well.

If you constantly eat curry it seems like it seeps through your pores. So deodorant and cologne is necessary.

I did some light research on aluminum in antiperspirants.

QuoteSome proponents of aluminum-free products claim that aluminum prevents you from sweating out toxins that could potentially cause cancer.

But cancerous toxins aren't removed from the body through the axillary (underarm) lymph nodes. The kidneys and liver help remove these toxins from the body, and they're eventually expelled through the urine and feces.

Aluminium can be actually toxic but apparently using deodorant can't really lead to such high dosages being accumulated in the body anyway.

If you constantly eat curry it seems like it seeps through your pores. So deodorant and cologne is necessary.

Who have you been hanging about with that constantly eats curry and as a result stinks of curry?

Quote from: tristan_geoff on Jan 24, 2024, 05:36 PMcorrect me if I'm doing or saying wrong but I recently discontinued using deodorant altogether.

I rarely want to or need to wear anti-perspirants which are an irritant to me. Deodorants I understand as having less chemicals but still I am not keen on those kind of products. There are a few alternative products around it you search for natural anti-stink remedies. Liking the smell of human bodies is not weird, it is how we get attracted to people, in my view anyway, so why else would you have a nose if it not for breathing in and out and taking in the smells around you.
..I am a known sniffer of things. Does that need washing, does the material smell pleasant for me to wear that, dinner wow that smells delicious, crikey what's that burning in the kitchen, smells are everywhere. It's natural... one of our important senses that should be used more for pleasures as well as alarms. Covering up human smells with perfume and such like is really not healthy for us, body and mind wise.

Elvis was supposed to be a bit of a knob but the thing that really disgusted me about him was when I saw a picture of his worn underwear that sold at auction.

Speaking of wiping your bum,

What does everyone prefer?

Toilet paper, wet wipes or were you fancy enough to spring for a bidet?

I'd prefer a bidet, but they're not a thing in this country.

I've never used a bidet before. We had one in Madeira but I was too scared to use it, potentially love it then have to go back to TP when I got home. I have no idea how you're supposed to use one either 😅😂

It's just a jet of water that rinses dookie from your bum, but..

Yeah, I've never used one either. I'm sure we talked about this earlier in this thread, but I'm just somewhat put off by how we smear poop around with paper and don't wash until we hit the shower 😅

But it works.

Wet wipes sound good, but I think it would be too tempting to toss them in the toilet.. which is a mortal sin.

I've used bidets when staying at nice hotels. It's okay but nothing beats a shower imo
